[Bug 1088146] Re: Asus n56vz battery state is wrong or battery not charging at all.
I too am experiencing the random 0% battery/no battery/random percent between 30-40%. Don't have windows on this laptop any more so can't comment on that. Ubuntu 13.04, Asus N56VZ. Can confirm that shutting down, pulling the battery for a bit, then booting with it in solves the problem (for about a day). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1088146 Title: Asus n56vz battery state is wrong or battery not charging at all. [Bug 562138] Re: radeon KMS causes corrupt VGA output on X1400
I've created a bug in the freedesktop bugzilla. Haha, Bryce, thanks for the catch there! Too excited to use ubuntu-bug I suppose :D Is it my responsibility to add this to the FreeDesktop bugzilla, or is this something the kernel team will do as part of their investigation? [Bug 562138] [NEW] radeon KMS causes corrupt VGA output on X1400
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Booting up the latest 10.04 daily live-cd, the VGA output is unusable. It looks like an incorrect frequency, and the screen size is wrong (it's too narrow for the resolution). The wavering/out-of-phase-ness is so bad that it's impossible to read. This happens on both the X console and X11, and goes away when I use the internal laptop LCD instead (LVDS). If I use both screens in a mirror or extend mode, the same problems occur. So, this led me to believe that the problem might be with Kernel Mode Setting (KMS). I added the options: "radeon.modeset=0 vga=771" to the livecd and, voila, no more corruption. Everything works again, and I can use my big LCD via VGA! I've attached as much information as I can; I can also show a video of the corruption. I had Ubuntu 8.10 on my computer previously; it's a Dell Inspiron 6400 with Mobility X1400 graphics from ati. I'm using the April 13th Daily LiveCD here, but the corruption was evident at least with the latest Beta livecd. Let me know if I can give any more information! """ Mine however did not start with an upgrade to 9.04; I've been running it stably from its release up to about 4 days ago, when this started happening. Playing audio through pulse or ALSA just has static that almost seems "in time" with whatever sound I'm attempting to listen to. Playing audio through OSS works *flawlessly*. Windows 7 on the same computer does not display any difficulty, and there have been no hardware changes as of late. I'm also experiencing intermittent USB failures so I can't 100% guarantee that this is not hardware related, but maybe the two have the same source in software (both are part of the ICH7 controller, I think?) [Bug 24280] Re: applications run through gksu cannot use themes in ~/.themes
How about this for a solution: Situation: The user changes her theme to a non-standard one installed by downloading an archive file and installing it with GNOME's appearance properties application. Problem: Applications launched by the user via. a "sudo" or "gksu" command do not reflect the user's theme. Explanation: The root user may not have had the user's theme selected, had their own theme selected by an administrator using the root account graphically (which as far as I know is not a good idea), or had the user's theme selected but cannot find it because it is not in their .themes directory. Solution: Allow gksu to change environment in such a way that the program launched by gksu has the user's theme. Whether this is by changing environment variables to flag the GTK program, pointing the program to a different gconf configuration, or something else (hopefully decided by someone with a much deeper knowledge of GNOME and GTK than myself), it should not change GTK or GNOME properties for any other root-run program but the one launched by gksu. Rationale: Modifying sudo to fix a minor gtk appearance bug seems like a very bad idea. However, gksu is gtk-based and as such should integrate as perfectly as possible into that environment. Also, this solution would allow the use cases where the root account is using that account graphically in GNOME/GTK to act correctly (i.e. run using the root's theme rather than the user's theme), if implemented correctly. In both cases, the suspend process seems to go all the way except to the end; the power light does not begin slowly pulsing and the fan stays on; the screen still looks a little bit eerily green. lspci output: 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS/940GML and 945GT Express PCI Express Root Port (rev 03) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express Port 1 (rev 01) 00:1c.3 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express Port 4 (rev 01) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI #1 (rev 01) 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI #2 (rev 01) 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI #3 (rev 01) 00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI #4 (rev 01) 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 01) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev e1) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Bridge (rev 01) 00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7 Family) Serial ATA Storage Controller IDE (rev 01) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) SMBus Controller (rev 01) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility X1400 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX (rev 02) 03:01.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Ricoh Co Ltd Unknown device 0832 03:01.1 Generic system peripheral [0805]: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C822 SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro Host Adapter (rev 19) 03:01.2 System peripheral: Ricoh Co Ltd Unknown device 0843 (rev 01) 03:01.3 System peripheral: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C592 Memory Stick Bus Host Adapter (rev 0a) 03:01.4 System peripheral: Ricoh Co Ltd xD-Picture Card Controller (rev 05) 0b:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (rev 02) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Suspend not working on Inspiron 6400 (gutsy) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/140766 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 58019] Re: Xorg freezes because of nvidia-driver
This bug happens for me as well on Feisty. Started happening right after a system update switched me over from nvidia-glx to nvidia-glx-legacy, like Antonio stated. Using the nv driver instead of nvidia provides unlimited use of my machine without any instability. With the nvidia driver from nvidia-glx-legacy, a crash happens without fail in the first 1-5 mintues of use. nVidia GeForce4 MX 440, AGP. Athlon XP 2000+, KT333 chipset. -- Xorg freezes because of nvidia-driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/58019 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 96640] Re: GLX/DRI extensions enabled causes X to crash upon using OpenGL applications
Hey, thanks. I didn't think that would have been the problem as I did not change that configuration from when I had the Radeon on Edgy, but sure enough running dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg did the trick. I'm back in X with ati acceleration! Thanks a ton! I added Colour Tiling, Page Flip and AGP 8x back into the mix and things are running smoothly still. -- GLX/DRI extensions enabled causes X to crash upon using OpenGL applications https://launchpad.net/bugs/96640 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 96640] GLX/DRI extensions enabled causes X to crash upon using OpenGL applications
Public bug reported: I use the "radeon" driver for my Radeon 9500 Pro, Athlon XP 2500+, nVidia nForce2 motherboard, CS46xx Hercules Digifire! sound card. The xorg log and conf file can be found here: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2357536#post2357536 Basically, libdri is crashing and I'm not sure why. I have the latest versions of everything, Feisty Fawn. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- GLX/DRI extensions enabled causes X to crash upon using OpenGL applications https://launchpad.net/bugs/96640 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
