Any word on if the patch listed in comments #69 and #70 will work on a Lucid kernel? Here is how installed Lucid on the elitebook 8440p (with Intel). It is a poor workaround, but at least it works: 1) install using the Alternate Installer CD, make sure to set the "nomodeset nosplash" kernel options 2) after the installation is finished, choose "rescue mode" from the grub menu (it may be necessary to pass along the nomodeset nosplash options again?) 3) when rescue mode asks you what to do, choose "Fail-safe X" 4) copy the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe to /etc/X11/xorg.conf 5) change GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nosplash nomodeset" in /etc/default/grub 6) run update-grub You know have a working system, albeit using the VESA Xorg driver. [Bug 589890] [NEW] indicator applet breaks when tabs are not enabled
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pidgin-libnotify I don't have tabs enabled in pidgin. After clicking on a notification in the indicator applet, the conversation is opened in a tabbed window. Attempting to close any conversation in this tabbed window just moves the tabs position to the end of the list (that is, it's impossible to close any conversation after clicking on a notification in the indicator applet). This is what I expect to happen: when I click on a notification in the menu, it opens a conversation window. When I then close that window, it goes away. This is what really happens: I click on a notification and it opens up a tabbed conversation window. It is impossible to get rid of this window (and any conversations therein) without quitting pidgin. [Bug 549632] Re: blank screen after user switch in logout menu
I'm also on a laptop with the intel driver. Running xgamma doesn't help. This affects me nearly every time I try to switch users. -- blank screen after user switch in logout menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/549632 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 433360] Re: multiple workspaces not shown in workspace switcher
The pager does work as expected when using metacity. The interesting thing is that it (the workspace switcher) is overriding my openbox configuration's default number of workspaces (3) so that I only get one upon initial login. After adding more workspaces with openbox, workspace switcher still doesn't show the additional workspaces (the windows on the visible workspace in the pager do change when switching workspaces with openbox though). Has the free desktop virtual desktop stuff changed and maybe openbox is behind the times? I wonder what window manager Michael is using. -- multiple workspaces not shown in workspace switcher https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433360 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 433360] Re: multiple workspaces not shown in workspace switcher
I am having this issue as well. One thing worth mentioning is that I am using openbox as my window manager. The workspace switcher has always worked perfectly in the past. I will try in metacity momentarily and report if the issue goes away. -- multiple workspaces not shown in workspace switcher https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433360 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 94474] networkmanager should respect /etc/network/if-up.d scripts
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager Network manager ignores scripts that are placed in /etc/network/if-(up|down).d . I realize that those are meant for the ifup/down commands, but network manager should use them too. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- networkmanager should respect /etc/network/if-up.d scripts https://launchpad.net/bugs/94474 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 70835] Re: source version is different from nvidia xserver
I don't think you understand the issue. Ubuntu is shipping a package (nvidia-kernel-source) that doesn't work with the xserver. If it's unsupported why include it in the repositories at all? -- source version is different from nvidia xserver https://launchpad.net/bugs/70835 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 8839] edgy rhythmbox still broken
The rhythmbox still doesn't work. The fields are now editable when you go to change song titles/artist/etc., and it works until you close rhythmbox. It appears that the changes aren't written to the file though, because the next time when you start rhythmbox all the songs are back in their original state. -- rhythmbox tag edition has issues with gst0.10 https://launchpad.net/bugs/8839 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 70835] source version is different from nvidia xserver
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-kernel-source The version of the nvidia xserver in edgy is 1.0-8776, but the version of the kernel module in the nvidia-kernel-source package is only 1.0-8774. I think this is the breezy version of the source and it just hasn't been updated for edgy yet. Here's the first line of the changelog: nvidia-kernel (1.0.8774-0ubuntu3) breezy; urgency=low Trying to use the modules from that package in edgy results in the following errors (output from dmesg): [ 342.657010] NVRM: API mismatch: the client has the version 1.0-8776, but [ 342.657015] NVRM: this kernel module has the version 1.0-8774. Please [ 342.657017] NVRM: make sure that this kernel module and all NVIDIA driver [ 342.657019] NVRM: components have the same version. I have to build my own kernels w/ the BadRAM patch applied, and it would be nice to have the nvidia modules working too. ** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.19 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- source version is different from nvidia xserver https://launchpad.net/bugs/70835 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 70766] poor sound quality
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: zsnes My sound works great normally (volume, clarity, etc. is all good). But when playing some games (specifically zsnes and quake2), the sound becomes very static-y. It seems to be an SDL/alsa issue (although that is wild speculation). ** Affects: zsnes (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- poor sound quality https://launchpad.net/bugs/70766 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 51869] badram
Public bug reported: this is more of a feature request than a bug (i hope this is the right place for this kind of thing). shouldn't we patch all the ubuntu kernels w/ the badram patch? (http://rick.vanrein.org/linux/badram/). It's a pain building my own kernel/modules every time just so that i can use my slightly damaged ram. it seems like this would also mesh well w/ ubuntu's goal of reaching out to the poorer countries in the world. ** Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- badram https://launchpad.net/bugs/51869 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
