[Bug 1067901] Re: can't configure any accounts in empathy

2012-10-21 Thread Cameron Matheson
There wasn't any error, but there was also no way to configure the
account.

It turns out I needed to install gnome-control-center-signon. Since
this is the only way to configure accounts for empathy, perhaps that
should be one of empathy's dependencies?

[Bug 863309] Re: Menubar always shown by default (although deactivated)

2011-10-10 Thread Cameron Matheson
I tried purging my gnome-terminal settings (gconftool --recursive-unset
/apps/gnome-terminal) in the hopes that I would then be rid of any
problem settings from previous versions, but that didn't make any
difference. There are no dconf settings for gnome-terminal, afaik.

[Bug 871055] [NEW] gnome-terminal ignores preference to not show menubar by default

I have unchecked the box "Show menubar by default in new terminals" in

[Bug 601986] Re: Disk driver problems on Toshiba NB305Netbook

Try adding intel_idle.max_cstate=0 to your kernel command-line. This
has gotten me back to a situation that is mostly equivalent to Lucid (I
have to hold down the shift key when booting into X too, or else unity
never starts up (i have to kill Xorg and try again).

Hey Ike,

Thanks! That did fix my boot problem (I no longer need to add nohz=off

sounds like that is unrelated to this bug.

Thanks again.

[Bug 651869] [NEW] can't boot Toshiba NB-305 in Maverick

2010-09-30 Thread Cameron Matheson
Public bug reported:

I believe this is highly related to these bugs:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/601986
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/508516

The problem has worsened in Maverick beta. I used to eventually (after
7 or 8 minutes as described in the bugs above) be able to boot my system
without using the "nohz=off highres=off" kernel command-line arguments.
The system will never boot without these parameters now.

I wanted to post my apport-info to bug #601986, but apport encouraged me
to file a new bug. This is it. Let me know if there is anything I can
do to help get this resolved.

it mostly fixed my problem. I can boot up with modesetting, and X works
(using the intel driver). I can't unsuspend still (I get the blank
screen again).

[Bug 585651] Re: [LUCID] Cannot install on eDP laptops such as HP Elitebook 2540p or 8440p

2010-07-23 Thread Cameron Matheson
I tested Steve's kernel on my HP 8440p and it didn't work for me either.
Steve, do you want me to try to build the kernel with the patch myself
like henk did to see if that works? Or do you have an idea of what
might be going on?

[Bug 557744] Re: [arrandale] lucid beta 2 live shows black screen

2010-07-21 Thread Cameron Matheson
Any word on if the patch listed in comments #69 and #70 will work on a
Lucid kernel?

Here is how installed Lucid on the elitebook 8440p (with Intel). It is
a poor workaround, but at least it works:

1) install using the Alternate Installer CD, make sure to set the "nomodeset
nosplash" kernel options
2) after the installation is finished, choose "rescue mode" from the grub menu
(it may be necessary to pass along the nomodeset nosplash options again?)
3) when rescue mode asks you what to do, choose "Fail-safe X"
4) copy the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe to /etc/X11/xorg.conf
5) change GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nosplash
nomodeset" in /etc/default/grub
6) run update-grub

You know have a working system, albeit using the VESA Xorg driver. This
is obviously suboptimal, but it's better than nothing.

I should note that this is bug is particularly bad if you have the "Hide

encounter this bug when opening new conversations from the messaging

[Bug 589890] Re: indicator applet breaks when tabs are not enabled

libnotify.

[Bug 589890] [NEW] indicator applet breaks when tabs are not enabled

2010-06-04 Thread Cameron Matheson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin-libnotify

I don't have tabs enabled in pidgin. After clicking on a notification
in the indicator applet, the conversation is opened in a tabbed window.
Attempting to close any conversation in this tabbed window just moves
the tabs position to the end of the list (that is, it's impossible to
close any conversation after clicking on a notification in the indicator
applet).

This is what I expect to happen: when I click on a notification in the
menu, it opens a conversation window. When I then close that window, it
goes away.

This is what really happens: I click on a notification and it opens up
a tabbed conversation window. It is impossible to get rid of this
window (and any conversations therein) without quitting pidgin.

Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

[Bug 433360] Re: multiple workspaces not shown in workspace switcher

2009-09-30 Thread Cameron Matheson
The pager does work as expected when using metacity. The interesting
thing is that it (the workspace switcher) is overriding my openbox
configuration's default number of workspaces (3) so that I only get one
upon initial login. After adding more workspaces with openbox,
workspace switcher still doesn't show the additional workspaces (the
windows on the visible workspace in the pager do change when switching
workspaces with openbox though). Has the free desktop virtual desktop
stuff changed and maybe openbox is behind the times? I wonder what
window manager Michael is using.

2009-09-30 Thread Cameron Matheson
I am having this issue as well. One thing worth mentioning is that I am
using openbox as my window manager. The workspace switcher has always
worked perfectly in the past. I will try in metacity momentarily and
report if the issue goes away.

[Bug 8839] edgy rhythmbox still broken

2006-11-10 Thread Cameron Matheson
The rhythmbox still doesn't work. The fields are now editable when you
go to change song titles/artist/etc., and it works until you close
rhythmbox. It appears that the changes aren't written to the file
though, because the next time when you start rhythmbox all the songs are
back in their original state.

[Bug 70835] source version is different from nvidia xserver

2006-11-07 Thread Cameron Matheson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-kernel-source

The version of the nvidia xserver in edgy is 1.0-8776, but the version
of the kernel module in the nvidia-kernel-source package is only
1.0-8774. I think this is the breezy version of the source and it just
hasn't been updated for edgy yet. Here's the first line of the
changelog:

nvidia-kernel (1.0.8774-0ubuntu3) breezy; urgency=low

Trying to use the modules from that package in edgy results in the
following errors (output from dmesg):

[ 342.657010] NVRM: API mismatch: the client has the version 1.0-8776, but
[ 342.657015] NVRM: this kernel module has the version 1.0-8774. Please
[ 342.657017] NVRM: make sure that this kernel module and all NVIDIA driver
[ 342.657019] NVRM: components have the same version.

be nice to have the nvidia modules working too.

[Bug 70766] poor sound quality

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: zsnes

My sound works great normally (volume, clarity, etc. is all good). But
when playing some games (specifically zsnes and quake2), the sound
becomes very static-y. It seems to be an SDL/alsa issue (although that
is wild speculation).

[Bug 51869] badram

2006-07-04 Thread Cameron Matheson
Public bug reported:

this is more of a feature request than a bug (i hope this is the right
place for this kind of thing). shouldn't we patch all the ubuntu
kernels w/ the badram patch? (http://rick.vanrein.org/linux/badram/).
It's a pain building my own kernel/modules every time just so that i can
use my slightly damaged ram. it seems like this would also mesh well w/
ubuntu's goal of reaching out to the poorer countries in the world.
