[Bug 1422301] Re: Failed to install grub at sda along side Windows 8.1 on an UEFI laptop
Phillip, Thank you. Looks like I have found a solution. I rebooted back on windows, I deleted the partitions created previously and restarted again on Ubuntu. Them this time the installer works well. The only one issue is when I turn on the laptop, I am not starting on grub as used to happens on a BIOS based laptop. Instead I am booting on windows always. The only one way to boot on Ubuntu is pessing F12 key during the boot and choosing to boot on legacy HD device. But for this I will google a solution that is probably already documented... Everything is working really well, including suspend, hibernate or even the touch display! : ) Please close this ticket as resolved. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1422301 Title: Failed to install grub at sda along side Windows 8.1 on an UEFI laptop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1422301/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 279909] [NEW] Using gnome-appearance-properties to switch from Normal to None desktop effect also changes from Ubuntu default sound theme to freedesktop sound theme in Intrepid Beta
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Hello folks, I'm testing Intrepid beta. I did the installation and the first package update. After the well successful installation, I turned off the desktop effects by using gnome-appearance-properties to switch from "Normal" to "None" effects, then I realized that disabling effects also changes the default Ubuntu sound theme (the awesome drums sound) to the freedesktop sound theme (default gnome theme, I presume). Steps to validate the bug: 1. Click on System -> Preferences -> Appearance 2. Go to Visual Effects tab 3. Select option "None" 4. Close the window 5. Restart X Server (Ctrl+Alt+Backspace), you will be back to GDM 6. Proceed with the login as usual, you will hear a different welcome sound (not the drums sound). And to turn back the Ubuntu sound theme, do it: 1. Click on System -> Preferences -> Appearance 2. Go to Visual Effects tab 3. Select option "Normal" effect 4. Close the window 5. Restart X Server (Ctrl+Alt+Backspace), you will be back to GDM 6. Proceed with the login as usual and the drums sound from Ubuntu default theme will be back. Public bug reported: After a successful installation into a IBM thinkpad T42, I reboot the system, choose normal boot into grub, but the system dive into a black screen without the tradicional splash logo. [Bug 14692] Re: hal detects written DVD as empty
Hi, Martin Well, maybe i became nuts!!! But what i said was exactly what happened and not only with one dvd... i just lost another copy from the same sony dvd-R brand while trying to mount it once again in edgy eft yesterday. And it's impossible that the disc was damaged before by dust, scratch and others: i married 2 months ago! I'm on windows now, but i'll try again later and let you guys know. [Bug 14692] Re: hal detects written DVD as empty
Hi, I'm brazilian, so sorry for my bad english ; ) i'm using linux for a while and since the last month i'm running Ubuntu. First was Dapper and then upgrade to Edgy Eft. Everything was just fine until a couple of days ago. I tried to backup my wedding dvd (sony dvd-r made in adobe encore with open session) and the system tried to mount it without success and reconigzed it as a blank disc. But the worst thing is that after that even windows and my standalone player can read my dvd. It's damaged for good! I repeat: my dvd-r became garbage after i tried to simply mount it under Ubuntu!!! For my luck, there is a copy from my dvd i made with windows xp before this awful episode...thanks god! I can tell if this bug is present in Dapper because i never had the chance to backup an open session dvd-r with Ubuntu before the related attempt here. I'd never believe such thing is possible and i think most of you too. To me this kind of bug should be labled as "critical". Anyone had face something like what happened to me?
