[Bug 223622] Re: samba browsing doesn't adapt dynamically to network changes
Maybe this is related: I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 on a notebook with a docking station. Docking station is connected to Ethernet. Connect samba shares with Nautilus while notebook sits in docking station. Browsing shares with Nautilus, accessing files all works fine. Take notebook out of docking station. Notebook switches to wifi network. Nautilus still shows shares as connected/mounted but freezes when trying to browse or access files. Same with other software when trying to read/write files (e.g. emacs trying to write an open file on a share). Sometimes after several minutes the connection is recovered, read and write access resumes to work. More often, error messages appear and problem reports are generated because the connection could not be recovered. I have this problem on my new Ubuntu 13.10 install. No problems before
on 12.04. Both with Unity.
A few days ago I found in a thread somewhere else (VirtualBox forums?
Forgot to bookmark and can't find it now ...) that this only happens
when the VM is stopped by closing the VM window by keyboard shortcut
(Alt-F4 or Ctrl-Q). Close the window by clicking the (x) or using the
window menu, and the VM will resume successfully.
Still annoying as heck, because I /always/ close Windows with ctrl-q and
can't get used to do it the other way. Whether this is a VirtualBox bug
or an Ubuntu/Unity bug, I don't know.
