[Bug 1176536] Re: No tracing is done on Precise when using the linux-lts-raring kernel

2014-01-18 Thread Cedric Schieli
I'm now running the kernel from linux-image-generic-lts-saucy and the
issue is still present.

I've just reverted my patched ureadahead from my PPA to the stock one
(which is still the same version as when I've opened this bug), removed
the pack files from /var/lib/ureadahead and rebooted. No pack files got
created.

Reverting now to my patched version.

[Bug 1176536] [NEW] No tracing is done on Precise when using the linux-lts-raring kernel

2013-05-05 Thread Cedric Schieli
Public bug reported:

When booting the backported kernel image from linux-lts-raring, tracing is
failing with the following error:
ureadahead: Error while tracing: No such file or directory

This is due to the removal of the obsolete tracing_enabled interface.
This has been handled for Raring in package version 0.100.0-13 (bug
#1085766).

A simple backport of this package fixes the issue for me.

[Bug 873784] Re: reload_passwd uses fgetpwent rather than getpwent, ignoring /etc/nsswitch.conf

As indicated on the upstream bug report, this is not the right solution.

@Ajunne

Unfortunately that doesn't work for me.
After granting access to /dev/console to the VE (and rebooting it), I get
No such device instead of Operation not permitted when trying to access
the device and init still hogs the cpu.
Maybe it is a problem with the host (Debian 6.0,
linux-image-2.6.32-5-openvz-686 = 2.6.32-31) ? I'll investigate more deeply
in a few days.

[Bug 880049] Re: 100% CPU usage in init if /dev/console is not available

2011-10-25 Thread Cedric Schieli
I totally agree the proper fix would be that OpenVZ provides a /dev/console. My
patch is rather a workaround.
Concerning jobs specifying console access, they already fallback to
CONSOLE_NONE in job_process_spawn so they are working (maybe not exactly with
the same behaviour though).
Concerning jobs specifying console ownership, they will fail indeed, but those
jobs (rcS, mountall-shell, ...) really can't be used in a OpenVZ environment
anyway.

[Bug 880049] [NEW] 100% CPU usage in init if /dev/console is not available

2011-10-22 Thread Cedric Schieli
Public bug reported:

When /dev/console is not available (for example when running as an OpenVZ
guest), init consumes 100% time of one CPU core.
Here is a strace excerpt captured on the OpenVZ host :

...
waitid(P_ALL, 0, {}, WNOHANG|WEXITED|WSTOPPED|WCONTINUED, NULL) = 0
clock_gettime(CLOCK_MONOTONIC, {3903451, 826182267}) = 0
select(5, [0 3 4], [], [4], NULL) = 1 (in [0])
read(0, , 1) = 0
waitid(P_ALL, 0, {}, WNOHANG|WEXITED|WSTOPPED|WCONTINUED, NULL) = 0
clock_gettime(CLOCK_MONOTONIC, {3903451, 826467596}) = 0
select(5, [0 3 4], [], [4], NULL) = 1 (in [0])
read(0, , 1) = 0
waitid(P_ALL, 0, {}, WNOHANG|WEXITED|WSTOPPED|WCONTINUED, NULL) = 0
clock_gettime(CLOCK_MONOTONIC, {3903451, 827157279}) = 0
select(5, [0 3 4], [], [4], NULL) = 1 (in [0])
read(0, , 1) = 0
...

Here is what happens :

- in init's main function, system_setup_console(CONSOLE_OUTPUT) fails, leaving
file descriptors 0 and 1 uninitialized
- nih_main_loop_init eventually get called, initializing its interrupt_pipe on
file descriptors 0 and 1
- we end up calling system_setup_console(CONSOLE_NONE), resetting file
descriptors 0 and 1 to /dev/null
- in nih_main_loop, select is called on 0 (/dev/null instead of the pipe) which
repeatedly appears to have changed

I'm attaching a small patch which fixes this.

[Bug 443105] Re: tty screen produces garbled graphics when gfxpayload is set

2009-10-27 Thread Cedric Schieli
I confirm this bug on a Dell Vostrto 1710.
With gfxmode=1440x900x32 (my native resolution) and gfxpayload=keep everything
work as expected except ttys being blank with fashing cursor.
Without tuning gfxmode/gfxpayload, ttys are functional.

Same problem here (starting on 2009-09-24).
As a workaround, starting with -no_cookies works.

[Bug 352197] Re: ata timeout exception with ahci libata driver (was with 2.6.28-11, but i confirmed it affewcts previous kernels too)

2009-05-08 Thread Cedric Schieli
I can confirm this bug on my Dell Vostro 1710 running Jaunty
(2.6.28-11-{generic,server}).
It occurs only once on every boot, when GDM starts (and thus does its
prefetch), provoking a ~30s blank screen with heavy disk activity before the
login screen.

[Bug 258882] [NEW] [hardy] r8169: multicast doesn't work on Realtek 8111/8168 PCI-E nics

2008-08-17 Thread Cedric Schieli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic

Multicast packets are ignored by r8169 driver for Realtek 8111/8168
nics.

This is fixed upstream in linus' tree (GIT-SHA
1087f4f4af302e6e2fa40dd741f306444d90bece and
f887cce8de019bb32917789379af89ae4c0294ee)

I've rebuilt a stock hardy kernel (-19.36) with those two commits
cherry-picked and multicast works for me again.

2008-08-14 Thread Cedric Schieli
BTW, IMHO the better fix for this bug is to cherry-pick the fix from linus'
tree directly into linux-source : it is nearly a one-liner and is included in
mainline kernels.
I attach the patch for easier review.

[Bug 141343] Re: r8169 driver does not work with Realtek PCI-E 8111B integrated network controller

2008-08-09 Thread Cedric Schieli
I've backported the r8169 driver from upstream git in my PPA's lbm by
cherry-picking commit 77332894c21165404496c56763d7df6c15c4bb09 onto
r8169.c from linux-source-2.6.24-19.36 and it works fine for me.

2008-08-09 Thread Cedric Schieli
NTolerance

It is safe to upgrade to newer linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic and to newer
linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-19-generic, but not to newer
linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-19-generic or to linux-image-2.6.24-20-generic.
I will produce new packages when needed until the fix go mainline.

[Bug 134660] Re: Ralink rt2400 / rt2500 / rt2570 / rt61 / rt73 do not work out of the box in Gutsy/Hardy

2008-02-09 Thread Cedric Schieli
MSI CB54G2 (rt2500pci, cardbus) works out of the box here with hardy kernels
(worked with every hardy's kernel)
My config is WEP/open using NM

Since a few kernel updates, I have to manually force speed with
iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M after associating or it runs at 1M.

I also encounter disconnections after several hours running (say at
least 10 hours). I simply reconnect by clicking on my network name in
NM.

[Bug 152317] Re: apt reinstalls same package from '~ppa1' again and again

2008-01-17 Thread Cedric Schieli
I think I found what's happening :

I compared various /var/lib/dpkg/status and /var/lib/apt/lists/ppa*_Packages
entries.
All the packages that keep reinstalling have a Pre-Depend field in the status
file but not in the Packages file.
Manually adding it in the Packages does the trick.

It seems soyuz is removing the Pre-Depend field...

Re: [Bug 134354] Re: /etc/ldap.conf removed

2007-09-04 Thread Cedric Schieli
Yes, I had libpam-ldap and libnss-ldap previously installed and working.
I then manually installed ldap-auth-client (I can't remember if libpam-ldap
and libnss-ldap got upgraded at the same time), answering NO to the local
root question.

BTW it is easily retriggerable by dpkg-reconfiguring ldap-auth-config and
answering NO to the local root question.

2007/9/4, Rick Clark [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Actually, I think I misunderstood the bug. Had you installed a previous
libpam_ldap package and ldap-auth-client was installed as a prereq
during an upgrade? If so, ldap.conf should not preexist. I'm pretty
sure this must be a use case I missed, I just need to narrow down
 exactly what you are doing.

[Bug 129183] [Gutsy] System freeze when bringing up rt2500pci interface

2007-07-30 Thread Cedric Schieli
Public bug reported:

With latest rt2500pci driver (from linux-ubuntu-
modules-2.6.22_2.6.22-9.22), the system freeze after enabling CTS
protection on the interface

I've tracked down the problem to this upstream
(git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ivd/rt2x00.git) commit :
c69ad028b683289fba89ce4a8aa34dddbcf32ce2

[Bug 127699] Various problems in 3.1.0-0ubuntu10

2007-07-23 Thread Cedric Schieli
Public bug reported:

I've identified various problems in latest xen-3.1 source package :

- FTBFS in pbuilder because of trailing debian/files file.
- /etc/init.d/xendomains fails because of bad LOCKFILE and XENDOM_CONFIG paths.
- pygrub fails because of missing /usr/lib/fs/*/fsimage.so
- PVFB fails because of missing /usr/lib/xen/bin/xen-*fb
- xen-vncfb uses wrong path for accessing keypmaps (/usr/share/xen/qemu instead
of /usr/share/xen-ioemu-3.1/qemu)

[Bug 127405] Re: xen kernel is compiled with PAE support, but xen-3.1 without

2007-07-23 Thread Cedric Schieli
This seems fixed by now, but IMHO there is a problem with providing only one
kind of hypervisor/kernel :
it will break many setups where (non-PAE) domUs don't share the kernel image
with dom0. (PAE domO cannot boot non-PAE domU, and vice-versa).
Rebuilding those kernels with PAE may not be easy, and maybe impossible
(third-party kernel images, pygrub images).

2007-07-17 Thread Cedric Schieli
Hmm, that's strange.

I've just checked with a fresh clone of git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu
/ubuntu-gutsy-lum.git, in a freshly updated gutsy chroot.

I've issued :

cd /tmp/ubuntu-gutsy-lum
cat /tmp/fix-rt2x00-build.patch | patch -p1
sudo apt-get install $(gdebi --apt-line -q debian/control)
fakeroot debian/rules binary-modules-generic

The resulting linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-8-generic_2.6.22-8.19_i386.deb
contains the rt2400pci.ko et al. modules

Did you try to build your package in a similar way ?
