Okay, fresh install of 15.04 xubuntu - right now things are working as they should. Some update knocked out my broadcom drivers and I couldn't work my way out of it. [Bug 1164788] Re: 13.04 kernel panic: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffffffec
Okay, scratch that, I must have bonked something in the install before, either way, I'm running strong now on the upstream. Also, I installed the newest daily (as of ... the fifth I think?) at the time, and regular Ubuntu not the Ubuntu-gnome flavor. So when I had another ffec kernel panic I reported it in a different bug. ALSO I had previously had a different kernel panic as well, of which I fully transcribed. Anyways, I'll let it sit on the carpet off the AC a bunch tomorrow to see if I can cause a kernel panic or not. I have a feeling it's connected to battery power overheating stuff. [Bug 1166586] [NEW] Xorg + Unity broken in PPC Live cd
Public bug reported: Booting without any extra parameters gets the general strange colors+pseudo 8 bit problem. So I tried the old standby, booting with live video=radeonfb:1024x768-32@60 which will usually get something running. This got me a black screen that had popup notifications (Ubuntu 13.04 had a critical error, and network not connected). So I ctl-alt-F2'd into terminal, and ran ubuntu-bug, copied the URL for this, and then startx. Startx got me to a desktop background, with the desktop icons on it (install ubuntu and some information folder). I've got no Unity interface, no window stuff, but through the folder I was able to find xterm, and do what I need to do so I can make the bug report. The colors are good at least! hardware info: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/charlesford42 (the first one, iBook) Lemme know if you need me to do anything, I'm certain I can reproduce this. [Bug 1165684] [NEW] Dell Inspiron 9300- kernel panic - unable to handle kernel paging request at 0498efff
Public bug reported: Unknown cause of kernel panic, which has plauged my Inspiron 9300 since I started testing 13.04 on it. Anyway, this time I was able to type it all out on another laptop (see attached). The kernel error number is different, though. I'm going to look into trying the upstream kernel again as mentioned in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1164788 , and if I can find a walkaround for the hardware I'll test it out. The caps lock light and num lock light were both blinking in sync with each other during the kernel panic, which I haven't noticed with other kernel panics. Also, it seems that I'm more likely to get a kernel panic on battery power, and while not using the desk, even though my fans are not obstructed while on the couch. there may be some slight errors in the kernel panic output BECAUSE I hand copied it using another computer ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 Package: linux-image-3.8.0-16-generic 3.8.0-16.26 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-16.26-generic 3.8.5 Uname: Linux 3.8.0-16-generic i686 ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu5 Architecture: i386 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: charlie1833 F pulseaudio Date: Sun Apr 7 04:15:11 2013 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=599d7013-d880-4cc3-b394-94bdde46dde7 InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-04-06 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail - Alpha i386 (20130402.1) MachineType: Dell Inc. [Bug 1165985] [NEW] 13.04 - kernel panic - unable to handle kernel paging request ffffffec -- Dell Inspiron 9300
Public bug reported: The same kernel panic that I had before (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1164788) This is a new daily build though, so I'm reporting a new bug. I'm thinking it's a fan issue - overheating, though not while on AC power. If I unplug it and let it sit on carpet, the fans won't go high, but it's quite likely that it'll throw this kernel panic out. I'll get the upstream kernel installed in a moment and see if it duplicates. Public bug reported: I was running USB tests when it first happened, and then unity crashed (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1161916) Then it happened again without unity crashing, and then again (unless it's all releated). [Bug 1156453] Re: Synaptic crashes after checking a few packages to install
Everything was going great after a reboot today, until I tried to resize the window. I just restarted synaptic to try and crash it by resizing the window, but that didn't work.
