[Bug 1608911] [NEW] Persistent SIM not detected error

2016-08-02 Thread Charles Opondo
Public bug reported:

In the dual-SIM Aquaris E5, System settings > Mobile displays a SIM not
detected error for SIM 1 even though the SIM is present and phone is
registered on its network. Restarting, swapping SIMs around or toggling
airplane mode does not solve the problem.

[Bug 1607835] Re: Failed 'add new connection' records a new connection anyway

2016-07-29 Thread Charles Opondo
It is similar in a sense. Normally I would not need to select the
network manually; it should connect to the network automatically
whenever it is in range. I suspect that it didn't because there were
already multiple entries of that network saved (conflict?), and in a bit
to connect I selected the network again manually and each time it failed
while still saving a new entry in the network list.

Once I deleted all entries and created a new single entry, it connected
normally.

The AP is secured with WPA2-Enterprise PEAP/MSCHAPv2.

[Bug 1607835] [NEW] Failed 'add new connection' records a new connection anyway

2016-07-29 Thread Charles Opondo
Public bug reported:

When adding a new wireless connection, if an incorrect setting selection
is made the connection fails to add, as expected, with a warning (e.g.
incorrect authentication) - this is the expected behaviour. However, the
connection name gets saved under Settings > WiFi > Previous networks.
This means if you, say, enter an incorrect password three times when
trying to add a connection but get it right the fourth time, there will
be four entries of the network you were trying to add, each suffixed by
a number. The consequence is that in future the device fails to connect
to that network when it is in range. Current solution is to forget all
entries of the network and add it again (and get all settings right on
the first try).

[Bug 1606955] [NEW] Renaming SIM in 'Mobile' does not change name in 'Phone'

2016-07-27 Thread Charles Opondo
Public bug reported:

I recently changed one of the two SIM cards in my Aquaris E5. I then
rename this SIM in System Settings > Mobile.

Today, after updating to OTA-12, I noticed that System Settings > Phone
still has the old name of the new SIM. I don't know whether this is
related to the new OTA as I didn't check before the update.

[Bug 1323837] Re: Sim toolkit is not available on UT

2015-08-02 Thread Charles Opondo
I, perhaps selfishly, agree with the others that this should be assigned
a higher priority than 'wishlist. A lot of service providers offer
additional SIM functionality through STK. My provider, Safaricom, offers
a mobile banking service, MPesa, which is actually the chief reason I
use their service. Without it I cannot use my Ubuntu phone as my daily
device (it just sits on my nightstand).

Re: [Bug 555729] Re: package blcr-dkms does not support 2.6.33 or more recent kernels

2010-10-15 Thread Charles Opondo
This is how I got around the error:

While the error message is still displayed (do not close it!), open a terminal
and type sudo apt-get install blcr-dkms (without the quotes) and type your
password when requested (it will not be displayed as you type), then let the
installation proceed to the end. When it's complete you can close the error
dialogue box and restart the upgrade. It should proceed beyond this roadblock.

All the best with this.

Charles.

[Bug 647467] Re: KDE desktop-effects not working

I reported a similar bug today and I've been trying to find it (with no

desktop effects to work by clearing the 'enable functionality checks'

[Bug 558842] Re: ( process : 330 ) : Glib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)

2010-06-05 Thread Charles Opondo
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 532984 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532984

I upgraded from 9.10 over a month ago and have only recently noticed
this bug. I'm not sure if to call it a duplicate: in my case this
happens when I log out and try to log in again for a second (!) time.
The first time I log out, upon logging back on compositing does not work
(even though it is switched on); when I log out again and attempt to log
in (without restarting) this error appears and I don't get the login
screen. Only a restart returns my system to its usual state.

The exact error message is:

(process:326): GLib-Warning **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user
id (0)

[Bug 550261] Re: sbackup not working

2010-05-08 Thread Charles Opondo
Same problem here: after upgrading from Karmic to Lucid, I can start the
sbackup GUI, but when I attempt to run a backup I get the message that a
backup process has began, but it only appears briefly in the task list
then disappears. No backup is created. Running sbackupd from the
terminal creates a backup, however.

[Bug 495236] [NEW] Konqueror crashes when editing or deleting text box in webpage (esp. status update textbox in Facebook and create/edit/forward e-mail textbox in Yahoo!)
