I still had this problem in lucid, and still have it with the maverick RC. I am willing to help to get a solution, but don't have the slightest idea what to look for. So if someone could give me some hints I am willing to work on this problem. I have no problem downloading sourcecode, making adjustments to it and installing the resulting package. [Bug 498829] Re: sound output via headphone is not working correctly (alsa doesn't distinguish between speaker and front channel)
I checked with latest upstream kernels (2.6.33 and 2.6.34-rc6), but the issue remains. I now installed the latest version of alsa manually (1.0.23). Like that I have the possibility to switch off the speaker without switching off the headphones. Auto-mute still doesn't work and the channels seem to be mixed. The headphones are to be found as front, while the channel headphones does nothing (perhaps the channel for the docking station??). ** Tags added: lucid -- sound output via headphone is not working correctly (alsa doesn't distinguish between speaker and front channel) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/498829 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 498829] Re: sound output via headphone is not working correctly (alsa doesn't distinguish between speaker and front channel)
apport information ** Tags removed: needs-upstream-testing ** Description changed: I have a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo Mobile Laptop (X9525) with a docking station. After I updated to Ubuntu 9.10 I encountered problems with the sound system. When I plug a headphone to the laptop, I can still hear sound via the speakers. I am not able to get rid of the sound of the speaker when plugging the headphone to the laptop. However, when I plug the headphone to the docking station, everything works as expected and the speakers are switched off automatically. When using the audio applet in the taskbar and setting sound output to "analog headphone" I only have sound via the docking station but not via the laptop headphone jack or the speakers. Only when setting the sound output to "analog output" I have sound via the laptop headphone jack (and also via the speakers). lspci says: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) + --- + AlsaVersion: + Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.23. + Compiled on Apr 30 2010 for kernel 2.6.32-22-generic (SMP). + AplayDevices: + List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices + card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC262 Analog [ALC262 Analog] +Subdevices: 0/1 +Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + Architecture: i386 + ArecordDevices: + List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices + card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC262 Analog [ALC262 Analog] +Subdevices: 1/1 +Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: charon 1765 F pulseaudio + charon 2299 F rhythmbox + /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: charon 2299 F...m rhythmbox + /dev/snd/timer: charon 2299 f rhythmbox + CRDA: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'Intel'/'HDA Intel at 0xfc32 irq 31' +Mixer name : 'Realtek ALC262' +Components : 'HDA:10ec0262,17341146,00100202 HDA:11c11040,11c10001,00100200' +Controls : 15 +Simple ctrls : 11 + CheckboxSubmission: 6b302700689f45b5d1182760a259b919 + CheckboxSystem: 331fbefb4b1f6727f4a8261fee7507c9 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=32928a36-4157-43e2-8b2e-b8a2fcabbc69 + MachineType: FUJITSU SIEMENS ESPRIMO Mobile X9525 + NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia + Package: linux (not installed) + PccardctlIdent: + Socket 0: +no product info available + PccardctlStatus: + Socket 0: +no card + ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-22-generic root=UUID=674a7a90-80c8-4126-8127-5eba7399a224 ro quiet splash + ProcEnviron: + LANGUAGE=de_DE:de:en_GB:en + PATH=(custom, no user) + LANG=de_DE.utf8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-22.33-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 + Regression: Yes + RelatedPackageVersions: linux-firmware 1.34 + Reproducible: Yes + Tags: lucid audio regression-release needs-upstream-testing + Uname: Linux 2.6.32-22-generic i686 + UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout lp lpadmin plugdev sambashare + WpaSupplicantLog: + + dmi.bios.date: 09/25/2009 + dmi.bios.vendor: Phoenix + dmi.bios.version: Z118D3FR.111 - R080 - 3D13 + dmi.board.asset.tag: Tag 12345 + dmi.board.name: Z118M3A + dmi.board.vendor: FUJITSU SIEMENS + dmi.board.version: 20 + dmi.chassis.type: 10 + dmi.chassis.vendor: FUJITSU SIEMENS + dmi.chassis.version: 1.0 + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnPhoenix:bvrZ118D3FR.111-R080-3D13:bd09/25/2009:svnFUJITSUSIEMENS:pnESPRIMOMobileX9525:pvr1.0:rvnFUJITSUSIEMENS:rnZ118M3A:rvr20:cvnFUJITSUSIEMENS:ct10:cvr1.0: + dmi.product.name: ESPRIMO Mobile X9525 + dmi.product.version: 1.0 + dmi.sys.vendor: FUJITSU SIEMENS ** Attachment added: "AlsaDevices.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/46724722/AlsaDevices.txt -- sound output via headphone is not working correctly (alsa doesn't distinguish between speaker and front channel) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/498829 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 500757] [NEW] fujitsu laptop: Setting brightness of LCD display not working correctly with hotkeys
Public bug reported: When I use the hotkey to increase the brightness it works for a very short time (maybe 100ms), but then falls back immediately to the old brightness. Decreasing the brightness works, but not all brightness states are possible. It seems that only every second brightness state is used. Interesting is, that the brightness applet of the gnome-power-manager package is able to set the brightness. However, after setting the brightness with the applet, the icon is changes to the sun with the red circle on it (I think it wants to say: not working). But it still works with the applet. [Bug 498829] Re: sound output via headphone is not working correctly
I further investigated this issue. It seems to be a problem of ALSA 1.0.20. It does not distinguish between speaker and front channel, only a front channel is listed for both. The additional headphone channel seems to be used for the docking station. I updated manually to alsa 1.0.22 and a speaker channel becomes available. The audio control in the panel, however, still sees the old "scenario" of alsa 1.0.20. But at least I can now use the alsamixer in the console to mute the speaker. -- sound output via headphone is not working correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/498829 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 498829] [NEW] sound output via headphone is not working correctly
Public bug reported: I have a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo Mobile Laptop (X9525) with a docking station. Only when setting the sound output to "analog output" I have sound via the laptop headphone jack (and also via the speakers). lspci says: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- sound output via headphone is not working correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/498829 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 307957] [NEW] brasero crashes when trying to burn a file with a "#" in its name
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero This happens to me on: Ubuntu 8.10 Package Version is: 0.8.2-0ubuntu1 I expected: Brasero to burn a CD. What happened: When you try to burn a data-cd with a file on it which has a filename containing a "#" brasero quits with a segmentation fault. Steps to reproduce : 1. create a new data-project 2. add the file "test #555.txt" (i attached it to this bug-report. you may try a different file with a "#" in its name since it originally crashed on me due to a different file) 3. click on the burn-button in the lower right corner of brasero 4. you may either chose your cd-burner or an image-file as the destination. its crashes with both (originally chrashed on me during burning a cd. can be reproduced with an image-file though). makes no difference if you change any of the other options here. 5. click the burn-button, it will crash immediately and you don't know where during the burn process. if this was one file out of many you want to burn you will see that it crashes during the creation of the checksum for the image-file. A few of these guidelines to recreate the bug may be a bit off since i am doing this in a german environment and don't know the proper english terms. Thanks! -- tty[1-6] are active but display nothing in Gutsy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129910 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 129910] Re: tty[1-6] are active but display nothing in Gutsy
Have the same problem on a HP nx6125 with an ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M. Both with vga=791 and vga=792. Worked before on Breezy, Dapper, Edgy and Feisty. Console works (i can log in and type commands in blind), its just completely black. -- tty[1-6] are active but display nothing in Gutsy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129910 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 30447] Re: Lockup problems with both the free xorg ATI driver and the proprietary fglrx driver, using various ATI cards
Just tried with Feistys daily CD-Image from the 31st of January and still have the problem (just tried in the Live-CD mode). -- Lockup problems with both the free xorg ATI driver and the proprietary fglrx driver, using various ATI cards https://launchpad.net/bugs/30447 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 52857] Re: ERROR: cpu exception in dosemu code outside of VM86()!
Same problem here too. And no, installing a debian-testing package is not an option ( i want to keep my system free from non-ubuntu packages ) -- ERROR: cpu exception in dosemu code outside of VM86()! https://launchpad.net/bugs/52857 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 30447] Re: Lockup problems with both the free xorg ATI driver and the proprietary fglrx driver, using various ATI cards
Have this problem too on a HP nx6125 laptop with an ATI 200m with both "ati" and "radeon" as the driver. Logout creates visual garbage on the screen. Switching to a text-console creates the garbage too. System is still responsive though and i can even use the text-console to shutdown the laptop (although i don't see what i am typing). Didn't try fglrx yet but that one is not an option for me (no sleep, hibernate and setting screen-brightness). Will provide further information if needed (dmesg, lspci, Xorg.0.log, /var/log/messages) -- Lockup problems with both the free xorg ATI driver and the proprietary fglrx driver, using various ATI cards https://launchpad.net/bugs/30447 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
