[Bug 1893719] [NEW] Request for adding support for Synaptics fingerprint reader sensors: 0xE9 and 0xDF

2020-08-31 Thread Chih-Hsyuan Ho
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * We were advised by Synaptics to upgrade the existing libfprint in the
archive to include sensor support for 0xE9 and 0xDF as highlighted in
the following commits:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libfprint/libfprint/-/commit/8b64312f4bfee84c8be1eb9763f7fe87ec078a1a

[Test Case]

 * We have several OEM platforms with these Synaptics sensors enabled
with Focal and they can be used to validate these changes.

[Regression Potential]

 * Regression potential for an updated libfprint with these new PIDs is
low

[Bug 1820323] Re: amdgpu-pro xorg crash

2020-01-16 Thread Chih-Hsyuan Ho
- Original shipping condition:
* Dell Farallon + WX2100
* linux-image-4.4.0-36-generic + amdgpu-17.10-429170

- Test procedure:
1. sudo apt install linux-image-4.4.0-xxx-generic
linux-headers-4.4.0-xxx-generic
2. reboot

Expected behavior
System can boot into desktop successfully to the updated kernel

Actual behavior
Loop at login session

- Findings:
1. amdgpu DKMS fails to build exactly between 4.4.0-142(OK) and 4.4.0-143(NG)
kernels
2. However, starting from 4.4.0-116 kernel, amdgpu module fails to load with
the following error message:
amdkcl: version magic '4.4.0-xxx-generic SMP mod_unload modversions' should be
'4.4.0-xxx-generic SMP mod_unload modversions retpoline'

- In summary, the issue has 2 causes, amdgpu loading error and amdgpu
DKMS build error, the former happens in earlier kernel revisions than
the latter.

[Bug 1842532] Re: Touchpad stops working after resuming from s2idle

2019-09-03 Thread Chih-Hsyuan Ho
Vendor(Goodix) suggests to add a (58ms) delay after SET_POWER_ON command
after resuming from s2idle.

And here is the cause analysis done by the vendor about this issue:
"
By following Microsoft spec, our IC supports two types of protocol, mouse mode
and ptp mode.
When IC powers on, the default mode is mouse mode, host can send command to
switch it to ptp mode.
ptp mode (Ubuntu OS only handle this protocol)

Switching to ptp mode fails in Ubuntu's case due to insufficient delay time
after the SET_POWER_ON command and results in a loss in touchpad function as it
weill be operating in mouse mode when resuming from s2idle.

[Bug 1693473] [NEW] Scaled resolutions in nvidia-settings are not supported

2017-05-25 Thread Chih-Hsyuan Ho
Public bug reported:

I was using a Dell desktop equipped with a NVIDIA NVS310 card and when
trying to set to any of the "scaled" resolutions listed in nvidia-
settings, the display did not get scaled properly. Instead, it was
"cropped" to fit the set resolution. Tried other NVIDIA graphics cards
like Quadro P4000 and P5000 and got the same results.

Two screen shots are included, one is the list of "Scaled" resolutions
supported in nvidia-settings, another is about the cropped desktop with
those resolutions.

[Bug 1577735] Re: Add missing SKL/BXT PCI-ID's

We were using Ubuntu 16.04 for the test and the issue was indeed gone
after applying what's in xenial-proposed. The info I gave on comment #5
is not correct. What we originally had is 2.4.67-1 (failed), and after
applying xenial-proposed, it is 2.4.67-1ubuntu0.16.04.1(good) Sorry
about the confusion.

[Bug 1410775] Re: [AMD Mullins + Jet XT] The graphic is not switchable with fglrx

AMD Mullings/Beema platforms do not support switchable graphics, this is
by design.

[Bug 1410775] Re: [AMD Mullins + Jet XT] The graphic is not switchable with fglrx

2015-01-21 Thread Chih-Hsyuan Ho
Regarding the (EE) error messages shown in Xorg.0.log, can you give the
newer Catalyst driver a try (http://support.amd.com/en-
us/download/desktop?os=Linux+x86) to see if it improves the situation?

[Bug 1315285] Re: [AMD Richland + Mars] Unable to switch graphics

2015-01-19 Thread Chih-Hsyuan Ho
And in other AMD A+A platforms such as [AMD Richland + Mars], which this
issue was originally reported against, switchable graphics works with
the latter Catalyst driver (14.502, earlier drivers may also work but
not verified) after disabling gpumanager so that the X configuration is
not further overwritten by it.

[Bug 1315285] Re: [AMD Richland + Mars] Unable to switch graphics

2015-01-19 Thread Chih-Hsyuan Ho
According to AMD engineering, the A+A platforms based on Mullings and
Beema chipsets do NOT support switchable graphics. It is made clear that
in their GUI configuration tool (AMDCCCLE), no such option exists for
such platforms.

[Bug 1382490] Re: Broadcom Bluetooth [413c:8143] does not work at all

2014-11-30 Thread Chih-Hsyuan Ho
It seems that this has been a known issue for all Broadcom BT devices in
standard Ubuntu and the issue can be fixed if we simply pack the same
solution (brcm installer) into standard Ubuntu. Or users are advised to
refer to the instructions given in http://askubuntu.com/questions/533043
/bluetooth-not-working-on-ubuntu-14-04-with-dell-inspiron-15-3521 and
fix it by themselves.

Please give the AMD Catalyst 14.9 driver a try which was just released
