I'm surprised this bug is very old..and still ongoing. Ubuntu focal.

Unlike @estanislao-gonzalez-r, I'm not using lvm but still have the same
problem.

Meanwhile GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT=1 does the trick..

gdm3: didn't work when I tried a couple of days ago, wanted to test
again now, but unable to do so, x11vnc doesn't want to play nice with
gdm3.

no DM: flashback session seems ok. I used "update-alternatives --config
x-session-manager" to undo the changes, your command with --auto didn't
work.

2018-11-11 Thread Chrescht
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected bionic package-from-proposed

** Description changed:

Users authenticate against LDAP. Was fine until I upgraded to Ubuntu
  18.04. /home is nfs mounted.

I've checked all logs I can find, syslog, auth, kern, lightdm, Xorg,
.xsession-errors. My main suspect from auth.log is:
lightdm: pam_systemd(lightdm:session): Failed to create session: Connection
timed out

There seems to be a 25 second timeout and if the session isn't ready it
goes back to the login screen (here lightdm-greeter).

Something else is bugging me: when a given session DOES let me login,
after restarting lightdm for whatever reason, I won't be able to log
back in. It's like the lightdm restart doesn't properly terminate, and
some bad clues are left in the user's home folder so that the next try
will end in a login loop.

Reinstalling flashback with apt-get install --reinstall
gnome-session-flashback didn't help.
~/.Xauthority is owned and writable by the owner. This has never been a
problem.

No login problem for an old local account.

[Bug 1802094] [NEW] Can not start Flashback session in 18.04 (Bionic) after update from 16.04 (Xenial)

Public bug reported:

I've checked all logs I can find, syslog, auth, kern, lightdm, Xorg,

Well from my perspective it's not fixed, but if it is, yes, then I
should open a new one. Yes I've checked all logs I can find, syslog,
auth, kern, lightdm, Xorg, .xsession-errors. My main suspect is
"lightdm: pam_systemd(lightdm:session): Failed to create session:

I updated recently to bionic, am on gnome-flashback 3.28.0-1ubuntu1.2, but
cannot login.
Am also using ldap.
When reinstalling gnome-session-flashback I got "gnome-session-flashback.target
is disable or a static unit is not running, not starting it."
I've been on it for days..

[Bug 1026675] Re: [LifeBook B6220, Realtek ALC262, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2012-09-06 Thread Chrescht
I have issues with a Lifebook S series.
(I have sound but the speakers are not turning off when headphones are plugged
in..)

In order to check if this is really a bug, try the following:
Change your output device in the hardware tab in the Ubuntu sound options.
Analog Stereo Duplex is working fine for me.
Then make sure the sound is not muted by typing alsamixer in a terminal (toggle
mute with the 'm' key).

2012-08-14 Thread Chrescht
selli, you are trying to install the old and buggy version. The new
package is 11.11.28-0ubuntu1.2.

Try to uninstall it first using apt-get remove --purge indicator-weather.
Then update your sources, followed but an installation of indicator-weather. If
there is still no sign of 11.11.28-0ubuntu1.2 then your sources don't include
it (yet).

Yes I have some disconnects on Natty and eduroam (without certificate).

2011-01-19 Thread Chrescht
I'll try but chances are that I'll not be able to reproduce the crash
since there have been updates in the meantime.

Moreover what I don't really get it why I am seeing a gnome-panel when logging
in with the "Ubuntu Desktop Edition" session.
The latter should be compiz/unity (no panel).

[Bug 703301] [NEW] npviewer.bin uses too much cpu

2011-01-15 Thread Chrescht
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nspluginwrapper

When browsing some web-pages with flash the npviewer.bin process is using way
too much cpu and memory.
top shows this:
7195 user 20 0 167m 74m 15m R 54 7.5 5:08.64 npviewer.bin

54% CPU on a Pentium D 3.4GHz is a lot, and so is 7.5% of 1Gb of RAM.
A sample page is this one:

Output of ps ax| grep npviewer:

Moreover I have found this segfault in syslog:

[Bug 415001] Re: Ekiga client crash in in std::_Rb_tree_increment

2010-12-25 Thread Chrescht
I had the same problem just now when closing ekiga 3.2.7 on Ubuntu 10.10 when
connected to an ekiga session on another pc running 3.2.6 on Ubuntu 10.4.
Both are on the same network.

I closed 3.2.7 and 3.2.6 crashed (then apport did his job).

Now since the status is unknown (from fix released), is this the wrong
bug to report to?

2010-12-15 Thread Chrescht
There is no crash report..
I created a report with "apport-bug nautilus" on the command line.

Once in a blue moon there is apport running but failing to report since
it does not support assertion failures..

I do have a huge .crash file in /var/crash but I think it's the one I
created manually with "apport-bug nautilus".

[Bug 665226] Re: evince shows blank page where acroread does not

2010-10-23 Thread Chrescht
Ok I just located the trouble-causing lines: the pdf has a lot of
objects like:

29 0 obj << /Lenght 61 >> stream
BT /Helv 8 Tf 28 699 Td 0.000 0.000 0.000 rg (01.09.10) Tj ET
endstream
endobj

Obviously /Lenght has to be /Length.

Now evince still outputs the xref error but that's for later sometime :-).
Error: PDF file is damaged - attempting to reconstruct xref table...

I attached the corrected pdf file histo_ok.pdf.

2010-10-22 Thread Chrescht
Yes it does work in Maverick although it is not an option for me to
upgrade on the Lucid-machines.

evince still outputs many "Bad 'Length'" errors, starting with:

Error: PDF file is damaged - attempting to reconstruct xref table...
Error (44): Bad 'Length' attribute in stream
..
end ending with:
Error (367873): Bad 'Length' attribute in stream
Error (367985): Bad 'Length' attribute in stream

There are 13145 "Bad Length" errors in total.

[Bug 502862] Re: Unable to open audio device , only silence is transmitted

2010-06-18 Thread Chrescht
I had the same problem and solved it this way:

Open the Ekiga preferences dialog.
Under Audio/Devices I had my USB web-cam selected instead of "Default
(PTLIB/ALSA)".

So in other words it was not a real bug at all, at least not for me.

[Bug 378403] Re: 1st call after launch of ekiga works perfectly, but after it's impossible to call, I had to close ekiga and restart it...

2010-05-28 Thread Chrescht
Back again: I had the same issue again: First call after a fresh start of ekiga
works fine, but the second simply has no incoming audio..the status bar is
showing this:
A: 8.0 / 0.0

So there is no incoming audio.
My sip provider is netappel.fr by the way. So there might be a chance that the
problem is on their side..

Ok, the lucky part of post #15 is nil.
I have seen that in alsamixer (the terminal version) all channels were on mute
although I didn't mute anything.
After unmuting the audio in and output ekiga found its voice again.

Now I am not sure if this has been my problem all the way long or not. I
will post as soon as I have anything new.

[Bug 580977] [NEW] evolution some emoticon shortcut keys not recognized

2010-05-15 Thread Chrescht
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When writing a new mail in in evolution some emoticons are not showing up as
images.
One example is the kiss emoticon whose description is :-* .
The emoticon image file is showing up when pressing the space key after the
last character of the emoticon's shortcut key ( = its "description" in the
emoticon's image properties window, accessible with a right click on the
emoticon itself).

The smiling one is working fine for example: :-) .

I dare say that they all should work..am I wrong?

cheers.

[Bug 405833] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in icalcomponent_new_clone()

2010-05-07 Thread Chrescht

I've had this bug in lucid..I cannot reproduce it since evolution simply
started to respond..these were my last steps (probably not related to the
bug..) :

switch desktop to the one having evolution in calendar (month view) showing.
trying to click on any appointment or day:
-> the interface is not responding
-> cpu goes up for a couple of seconds
evolution closes automatically and apport pops up.

Yes, as I wrote, "the formatting magically appears once space or enter

But since no formatting is applied after closing the insert-link-dialog
the user does not see if the link has been applied..

[Bug 571316] [NEW] evolution: inserting a link leaves the linked text unformatted at first

2010-04-28 Thread Chrescht
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

In evolution when composing a new mail and inserting a link to some plaintext
the link does not show up as "link-formatted" i.e. it is not underlined and not
coloured. The link is present though as you can hold Ctrl and click on the
linked text and your browser will show the page..

Now the formatting magically appears once space or enter is hit.
I guess this still is a bug since in karmic - as far as I can rely on my memory
- the link was formatted as soon the link dialog was closed.

[Bug 570680] [NEW] new contact dialog sets focus on ICQ text field

2010-04-27 Thread Chrescht
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

In evolution, in contacts view, when opening a new contact dialog with "new ->
contact" or Ctrl+n, the cursor is automatically put in the ICQ text-box instead
of - at least in my opinion since every contact has to have a name - in the
name details.

[Bug 446143] Re: The torrents in transmission are sometime not visible

2010-04-26 Thread Chrescht

I confirm that switching between views makes the list show up again.
I have had this small issue in karmic and now in lucid beta too..

At the bottom the status is working at all times and tells if there are
active torrents even though the list might be blank.

cheers
