[Bug 1596550] Re: Metadata corruption detected at xfs_attr3_leaf_write_verify+0xd7/0xf0

2018-05-15 Thread Chris Butler
Hi,

Sorry to resurrect an old issue, but I've just come across the same (or
very similar-looking) problem. I'm also on an Openstack Swift storage
node with lots of small writes to SSDs as in the OP, running on Debian
Stretch in our case with the following kernel:

Linux swift-storage-1 4.9.0-6-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.82-1+deb9u3
(2018-03-02) x86_64 GNU/Linux

Kernel logs said:

As per the message, I unmounted the filesystem and ran xfs_repair on it. The
first run of xfs_repair told me to mount the filesystem to replay the log,
which I did. I then unmounted it and ran xfs_repair again:

~$ sudo xfs_repair /dev/sdc1

The filesystem now seems to be back up and running OK. I don't know if there's
any more information I could provide to help track down this issue?

Thanks,
Chris

2015-03-24 Thread Chris Butler
Public bug reported:

Dropbox stopped loading automatically and wouldn't load manually either.

So, I removed it with:

sudo apt-get purge dropbox

and then removed no longer needed dependencies with:

sudo apt-get autoremove

I restarted my computer and then tried reinstalling dropbox with:

sudo apt-get install nautilus-dropbox

Then I got the error in the summary.

I can't remove notify-osd since I'm using a multi-user machine, and some
of the users are using other desktop environments. How does the dbus

[Bug 907805] [NEW] Undeclared dependency on dpkg-dev: dpkg-architecture not found

2011-12-22 Thread Chris Butler
Public bug reported:

When starting up psql on Oneric, I get the following errors:

  zedcore@parsnip:~$ sudo -u postgres psql
Can't exec dpkg-architecture: No such file or directory at /usr/bin/psql
line 103.
Use of uninitialized value $multiarch in scalar chomp at /usr/bin/psql line

  Type help for help.

The dpkg-architecture command is in dpkg-dev, according to
packages.ubuntu.com, but the postgresql-client-9.1 package doesn't
depend upon it. It seems like an odd dependency for postgresql-
client-9.1 to have though, so perhaps there is something more
appropriate than a package development tool to deal with this? Or maybe
just suppress the error if dpkg-architecture is not found.

[Bug 732544] [NEW] dropped connections do not time out

2011-03-10 Thread Chris Butler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nagstamon

If nagstamon's connection to the nagios server is dropped, it's possible
that nagstamon will not notice and get stuck. On the occasions I've
noticed this, 'strace'ing the nagstamon process reveals that the threads
responsible for talking to the nagios servers are sitting waiting for a
read call to return on their sockets connected to nagios.

According to http://www.voidspace.org.uk/python/articles/urllib2.shtml
#sockets-and-layers, there is no default socket timeout set in urllib2.
I have applied the workaround in that article to my copy of nagstamon,
and it's running OK so far (not had much testing yet though).

My patch is attached. It might want some more thought though (I'm no
Python programmer). I've just hardcoded a 30s timeout, this may want to
become a setting in the preferences dialog.

[Bug 602320] [NEW] ssh sync fails to configure

2010-07-06 Thread Chris Butler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomboy

If I try to configure ssh sync in the version of Tomboy in Lucid updates
(1.2.1-0ubuntu1), it fails to save the sync configuration.

What I do is:

* open up Preferences  Synchronisation
* select SSH from the service dropdown
* enter server, username and folder details
* click Save

If I then select Yes when asked if I want to sync now, I get the
error:

  Synchronisation is not configured
Please configure synchronisation in the preferences dialogue.

  Details
  (empty)

After closing that, I can still see the settings in the preferences
dialogue (but greyed out). However, if I then close the preferences
dialogue and re-open it, the settings I'd entered previously are lost.
The settings are also lost if I select not to sync immediately.

At first glance it seems this bug is Ubuntu-specific.. ssh sync is working from
my Debian Squeeze laptop (I'll check the package version on that when I can
later today and update the bug, if it helps).

[Bug 591652] [NEW] [regression] openoffice text import dialog does not persist settings

2010-06-09 Thread Chris Butler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

According to:

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Calc/Features/Numbers_import_for_plain_text_files#Persistence_of_dialog.27s_state

The Text Import dialog settings should persist between invocations of
the function. However, when pasting formatted text into OOo with the
middle mouse button, it seems to reset back to a set of defaults: no
separator is selected, and the Detect special numbers flag is off. I
select the correct separator (tab in this case) and turn on 'Detect
special numbers', and that particular import works fine. However, the
next time I attempt the same thing it has reverted back to the previous
settings.

This doesn't seem to be a problem when importing text from files, only
when pasting with the mouse. This seems to be a regression since Jaunty,
where the same feature worked fine.

[Bug 591655] [NEW] keyboard properties set system-wide during upgrade

2010-06-09 Thread Chris Butler
Public bug reported:

I use the United Kingdom (Dvorak) layout for my keyboard, set in my
session via the GNOME Keyboard Properties dialog. Being a multi-user
system, the rest of the system (console, X) is set to standard United
Kingdom (QWERTY) layout.

I recently upgraded from Jaunty up to Lucid. Somehow during this
process, the United Kingdom (Dvorak) layout got set as the default GNOME
keyboard for all users. I had to go into Keyboard Properties, select
QWERTY and click apply system-wide to fix it. However, it shouldn't
have made my settings system-wide in the first place, especially with
the rest of the system disagreeing with them.

[Bug 591775] [NEW] [regression] microblogging plugin crashes

2010-06-09 Thread Chris Butler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-do

After upgrading to Lucid (from Jaunty, with a brief stop at Karmic),
gnome-do is no longer able to post to twitter.

If I try to post to twitter, gnome-do crashes with the following error:

Unhandled Exception: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to
an instance of an object
  at Microblogging.Microblog.UpdateStatus (System.Object status) [0x0]

Also, while typing the message, I noticed the same error repeated over
and over:

Microblogging.PostAction Post to twitter encountered an error in
DynamicModifierItemsForItem: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference
not set to an instance of an object
  at Microblogging.Microblog.get_Friends () [0x0]

item) [0x0]
  at Do.Universe.Safe.SafeAct.DynamicModifierItemsForItem (Do.Universe.Item
item) [0x0] .

When starting up gnome-do, I notice another error message:

[Error 16:45:06.953] Missing login credentials. Please set login
information in plugin configuration.

At a guess, this could come from the Microblogging plugin (although it
would be nice if this was included in the error!). So I tried to set the
credentials in the plugin config, but that fails to validate my login
details (which, trust me, are correct). Bear in mind that this was
working before the upgrade, so there should be no need to reconfigure
it, surely?

[Bug 555111] Re: Sync xmltv 0.5.56+cvs20100328-1 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2010-04-27 Thread Chris Butler
The new build-dep that's not in Ubuntu (liblinux-dvb-perl, I assume) is
only required for the tv_grab_it_dvb grabber, so an alternative would be
to disable this grabber (comment it out in Makefile.PL remove from the
.install file) and remove the build-dep.

However, it's up to you guys if you want to deal with supporting a CVS
snapshot in your LTS rather than an official release.. it was only by
accident that I uploaded it to Debian unstable (it was meant to go into
experimental).

You may want to consider syncing 0.5.57-1 which I've just uploaded,
which is the new upstream release which incorporates the bugfixes that
were in this CVS snapshot. Using the official new upstream release will
make maintenance easier in the long run.

[Bug 544522] Re: [lucid] latest version of Date::Manip breaks tv_grab_uk_rt

2010-03-28 Thread Chris Butler
I think we've finally managed to put together a workaround for this
problem. While there is still a bug in Date::Manip, it only occurs when
expressing timezones as numerical offsets (e.g. +). I've patched
xmltv so that it never uses invokes Date::Manip with timezones in that
format.

I've created packages for 0.5.56+cvs20100328-1, which I've uploaded to:

http://people.debian.org/~chrisb/

This is a snapshot of today's CVS, which includes the fix. The packages
were built for Debian, but I would imagine they'll install on an Ubuntu
system as well. The plan is to give this change a few days or so to get
a decent bit of testing. If all goes well, a new upstream release should
follow, at which point I'll upload it to Debian.

I'd welcome any feedback on the experimental packages if anyone can get
chance to test them, especially anyone using grabbers other than
tv_grab_uk_rt.

[Bug 517019] [NEW] vim crontab syntax highlighting should treat day/month names case insensitively

2010-02-04 Thread Chris Butler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vim

vim's syntax highlighting for crontabs breaks if a day or month name is
specified with a capital letter, e.g:

* *  *  *  Mon-Fri  mycommand

However, cron seems to treat these values as case-insensitive. The
attached patch fixes this by adding syntax case ignore before the
syntax.

Conversely, the @foo special time specifiers (e.g. @reboot, @hourly)
ARE case-sensitive. The patch also defines the syntax so that the
incorrect case is displayed as an error, with the correct case displayed
as before.

[Bug 450250] Re: clamdscan says Access denied. ERROR on all files

2009-10-21 Thread Chris Butler
Actually, I was just using my homedir as an example. I was actually
debugging an issue that a colleague of mine was having with interfacing
with clamd in a web application. A quick googling suggests that this
issue is causing problems for quite a few people - it's certainly not
very user-friendly, and the security benefits are questionable. clamd is
already running as a normal user, so shouldn't be able to access
sensitive files anyway. I'm not sure what the point is of locking it
down further - at least, not by default.

The clamdscan manpage describes clamdscan as:

clamdscan is a clamd client which may be used as a clamscan
replacement.

If you're going to lock down clamd in this way, then this is incorrect,
and the manpage should be updated to reflect this.

[Bug 450250] Re: clamdscan says Access denied. ERROR on all files

2009-10-20 Thread Chris Butler
I had the same problem on my Ubuntu Jaunty system:

chr...@ernie:~/fixtures$ clamdscan
/home/chrisb/fixtures: lstat() failed: Permission denied. ERROR

--- SCAN SUMMARY ---
Infected files: 0
Time: 0.002 sec (0 m 0 s)

The permissions on that directory, and all parents, should allow access:

chr...@ernie:~/fixtures$ ls -ld /home /home/chrisb /home/chrisb/fixtures
drwxr-xr-x 9 root staff 4096 2009-03-20 17:31 /home
drwxr-xr-x 163 chrisb chrisb 61440 2009-10-20 13:09 /home/chrisb
drwxrwxr-x 2 chrisb staff 4096 2009-10-20 12:51 /home/chrisb/fixtures

Running the same test on a Debian system is fine, which led me to check
the diff between Ubuntu and Debian clamav packages. The main one I
noticed was that apparmor is enabled on Ubuntu. Sure enough, that's the
problem:

chr...@ernie:~/fixtures$ sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor stop
 * Unloading AppArmor profiles
   ...done.
chr...@ernie:~/fixtures$ clamdscan
/home/chrisb/fixtures/eicar.com.txt: Eicar-Test-Signature FOUND
/home/chrisb/fixtures/eicar.com: Eicar-Test-Signature FOUND
/home/chrisb/fixtures/eicar_com.zip: Eicar-Test-Signature FOUND
/home/chrisb/fixtures/eicarcom2.zip: Eicar-Test-Signature FOUND

--- SCAN SUMMARY ---
Infected files: 4
Time: 0.004 sec (0 m 0 s)

It looks like the default apparmor profile is restricting the files that
clamd can read, which totally breaks clamdscan.

[Bug 438670] [NEW] Showing a floating toolbar causes openoffice window to go to the bottom of the window stack

2009-09-29 Thread Chris Butler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

When OpenOffice opens up a floating toolbar - either by detaching a
toolbar from the window, or by entering an element that causes one to be
displayed (e.g. bullets/numbering, images) - the window (and the new
floating toolbar) ends up behind all other windows on the desktop. This
seems to be happening in at least OO Writer and OO Calc.

should never have been closed in the first place. The bug is still open
in Debian Lenny, and no-one's decided to randomly close it there.

The steps to reproduce it are so simple, I'm sure someone who has access
to an Ubuntu 9.04 system can have a go. If there's really no-one
available who can perform this simple 4-step test, then I will install a
9.04 VM and test it myself.

[Bug 311329] Re: tv_grab_nl scripts not included

2009-01-13 Thread Chris Butler
They're still present in the source for historical reasons. However,
they are no longer installed as they no longer work.

tv_grab_nl was removed because the source website actively blocked the XMLTV
user-agent.
tv_grab_nl_wolf was removed because it stopped working and was no longer being
maintained.

[Bug 297595] [NEW] base-files postinst should probably use -xdev option to find

2008-11-13 Thread Chris Butler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: base-files

During the most recent upgrade to base-files (4.0.1ubuntu5.8.04.2 =
4.0.1ubuntu5.8.04.3), my system (Hardy) spent a long time running the
base-files postinst. This was due to the part which runs find across
various places including /etc:

  find -L $NINER_NINER_PATHS -gid 999 -print0 |
xargs -0rt chgrp 0
  find $NINER_NINER_SYMLINKS -gid 999 -print0 |
xargs -0rt chgrp -h 0
  find /media -maxdepth 1 -name cdrom[0-9]* -gid 999 -print0 |
xargs -0rt chgrp 0

On my system, /etc/skel contains a skeleton setup for
~/.wine/dosdevices, including symlinks to a couple of large NFS shares.

The above find commands should probably use -xdev to avoid things like
this, unless there's a better way.

[Bug 181989] Re: Rename option in bookmarks context menu not working in filechooser

2008-08-22 Thread Chris Butler
I've just tested it on hardy, and it works fine now. I don't have an
Intrepid system available to test on, but I guess it's probably fixed
there too.

[Bug 195426] [NEW] nullmailer doesn't timeout (fixed upstream / in debian)

2008-02-25 Thread Chris Butler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nullmailer

I had a problem with my mailserver which caused nullmailer to stop
sending mail as it was stuck waiting for a response which never came.
The new upstream version of nullmailer (uploaded to debian almost 2
months ago), adds support for a timeout in nullmailer-send, which will
fix the problem.

Ubuntu gutsy, fully up to date.

[Bug 187368] [NEW] gtimelog only accepts an integer for 'hours' in gtimelogrc

Ubuntu Gutsy, fully up-to-date. gtimelog version 0.0+svn65-1debian2.

In ~/.gtimelog/gtimelogrc, I tried putting 7.5 in for the 'hours' option, but
this caused gtimelog to crash because it expects an integer in this field. The
simple fix is just to change config.getint to config.getfloat:

[Bug 185893] [NEW] libgtk2-ex-podviewer-perl needs dependency on libgtk2-ex-simplelist-perl

2008-01-25 Thread Chris Butler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2-ex-podviewer-perl

DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 7.10

The libgtk2-ex-podviewer-perl (0.17-0ubuntu2) package is missing a

[Bug 184034] View - Field shadings seems to be broken

2008-01-18 Thread Chris Butler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Running ubuntu gutsy, fully up to date.

In openoffice writer, the Field shadings option in the View menu seems
to be broken. No matter whether I have it checked or unchecked, I still
see shadings around the fields, bullets, numbers, etc..

The shadings even appear in the Print Preview, which is rather
misleading since they don't actually appear in a printout!

[Bug 183760] Changing font size in a maximized window doesn't recalculate usable area

2008-01-17 Thread Chris Butler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vim-gnome

If you maximize a gvim window, and then change the font size, it fails
to recalculate the usable area of the window, resulting in a display
that either doesn't use all of the window, or tries to use too much.

Screenshot: http://www.crustynet.org.uk/~chrisb/gvimbug.png

Steps to reproduce:

Open gvim
:set gfn=Monospace\ 10
Maximize the window
:set gfn=Monospace\ 8

[Bug 181989] Rename option in bookmarks context menu not working in filechooser

2008-01-11 Thread Chris Butler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0

If you attempt to select the rename option from the context menu of a
bookmark in the GTK filechooser dialog, it fails to do anything except
reload the bookmark directory.

I believe this is a bug in GTK as it occurs in different GTK apps (I've
tested firefox, gvim and openoffice).
