[Bug 490627] Re: dragging a window across tabs leaves you in the old tab

2010-04-12 Thread Chris Jones
It'll certainly be in 0.93 in our PPA, but I'm hoping I can work
something out for Lucid itself. I don't have a firm time for 0.93, but
maybe in the next week or so?

[Bug 562883] [NEW] Unable to send to remote sftp share

2010-04-14 Thread Chris Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-sendto

I'm trying to use nautilus-sendto to send some files from Rhythmbox to a
remote SFTP share, but it dies silently when I do so.

The SFTP share is mounted via a bookmark to sftp://server/home/user/ but
it seems like sendto is unable to select remote paths, so it's just
going to be trying to write it to / on the server, which will obviously
fail. This UI should use something more like the gnome file saving
dialog so bookmarks can be selected and paths chosen.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04
Package: nautilus-sendto 2.28.4-0ubuntu1

[Bug 562887] [NEW] Unable to create a new archive

2010-04-14 Thread Chris Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

Steps to reproduce:

* Launch file-roller
* Create a new archive on your desktop as a .zip
* Drag some files in (I dragged from Rhythmbox)
* Witness the failure to create an archive.

Oddly, the following does work:

* Make a folder in nauilus
* Drag files into the folder
* Right click on the folder and choose Compress

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04

[Bug 510591] Re: avahi-browse makes host completion ugly and slow

2010-04-14 Thread Chris Jones
I've linked a branch which contains a patch to comment out the avahi-
browse call. The upstream fix to run it in a subshell with a strict
timeout looks interesting, but hasn't been accepted upstream yet, so I
don't think it's suitable to wedge into Lucid at this point.

[Bug 563277] Re: Please blacklist older 8xx cards from using KMS

I have a Thinkpad X40 (i855, PCI id 8086:3582) which only sees light use (1-2
hours a day), but has not displayed any kind of X crashing since it was
upgraded to Lucid at beta2.
However, with this blacklisted kernel, it is unable to start X, I just get a
black screen and no response to SysRq.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kvm

I installed a minimal ubuntu 10.04 system on an 8GB Core i7 (quad core)
motherboard with a couple of TB seagate disks in RAID1.

I stated 4 KVM VMs (created with ubuntu-vm-builder), two using virtio,
two not and left spew(1) running in --read-and-write mode overnight as a
stress test.

This morning I found 3 out of the 4 VMs had been killed by OOM.

[Bug 542062] [NEW] logresolvemerge.pl does not reap its children

2010-03-19 Thread Chris Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: awstats

It seems that logresolvemerge.pl forks gzip for each of the zipped
logfiles it's reading, but does not reap them when they have finished,
leading to as many zombie processes as there were log files.

While this is not directly harmful, it does make system monitoring
trickier.

[Bug 559696] [NEW] x86-64 Ubuntu 9.10: Flash installer on x86-86 installs flash in such a way that it can't be used by 32-bit firefox builds

2010-04-09 Thread Chris Jones
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
 - Download 32-bit firefox nightly from http://nightly.mozilla.org
 - Navigate to flash content, for example
http://www.macloo.com/examples/flash/animation/martini.htm
 - Choose to install missing plugins
 - Select the non-free Adobe flash player, install
 - Restart 32-bit firefox
 - Navigate again to http://www.macloo.com/examples/flash/animation/martini.htm
 - Applet fails to load, "Install missing plugin" doorhanger appears again
 - If firefox is run from the console, output like
LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library
/var/lib/flashplugin-installer/npwrapper.libflashplayer.so
[/var/lib/flashplugin-installer/npwrapper.libflashplayer.so: wrong ELF class:
ELFCLASS64]
   is written to stderr

Expected results:
 - non-free flash is installed in such a way that 32- and 64-bit browsers can
load it

The problem is that the flashplugin-installer depends on
nspluginwrapper, which is installed without the user's knowledge (meh,
but OK). nspluginwrapper installs a 64-bit NPAPI plugin /var/lib
/flashplugin-installer/npwrapper.libflashplayer.so, and 32-bit firefox
builds can't load 64-bit plugins.

Simple workaround: use the same mechanism that adds
/var/lib/flashplugin-installer/ to firefox's plugin search path to also add
/usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/ (where the 32-bit libflashplayer.so is
installed). 64-bit firefox will load the nspluginwrapper, and 32-bit firefox
will directly load libflashplayer.so. This workaround can be tested by running
  $ ln -s /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so
~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
and then restarting 32-bit firefox.

I understand that non-free flash and 32-bit firefox builds on 64-bit
distributions are sort of doubly-unofficially-supported, but the
workaround is easy enough that it seems worthwhile to me.

FWIW Mozilla's out-of-process plugin team plans to support loading
plugins of different architectures than the firefox build's (like
nspluginwrapper), but there's no definite timeline for this feature yet.

Sorry for leaving the package blank, I'm not sure in which this
workaround is best implemented.

I should add that the scenario that led to the filing of this bug was a
Mozilla developer downloading a Farsi-localized firefox build.
Localized firefox builds are only available for x86 at the moment.

[Bug 557671] [NEW] Update Terminator to 0.92

2010-04-07 Thread Chris Jones
Public bug reported:

Lucid currently has Terminator 0.14 in Universe. This release is based on a
moribund code branch - upstream (i.e. me) has moved on to a vastly restructured
and refactored branch which has allowed us to provide the most requested
features:
 * full GUI preferences editor that writes config files (0.14 can just read
them and edit the running instance)
 * multiple profiles can be created/edited in the preferences GUI
 * multiple layouts can be created/modified in the preferences GUI

I would very much like to cease support for the 0.14 branch and not have
it in use for another 3 years. Our initial release from the newer branch
was 0.90 and subsequently 0.91 and 0.92 have addressed all currently
reported regressions. I happily commit to fixing any further regressions
that are found, both before Lucid releases and afterwards via SRUs.

I'm going to skip the suggested FFE step of attaching a diff - almost
every line of the code has been refactored since 0.14, so the diff is in
the order of 50,000 lines.

2010-03-22 Thread Chris Jones
I've just marked bug #534894 as a dupe of this one, since that too is filed
against the intel package and describes infrequent flickering that is comprised
of extremely brief corruption of part of the screen. I think we're also all
running fairly recent Intel chips.
To quickly re-mention a comment I added to the dupe bug:

[Bug 544185] [NEW] remove reply notifications from messaging menu more quickly

2010-03-22 Thread Chris Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gwibber

if I get a series of @ replies on twitter/identi.ca, I get an entry for each in
the messaging menu.
Clicking on one of these will take me to Gwibber where I have a "Replies"
stream visible with all of the things people have said to me. At this point I
can see all of the things the messaging menu was telling me about, but I still
have to go and click on each item in that menu in turn to make them disappear.

[Bug 542062] Re: logresolvemerge.pl does not reap its children

2010-03-22 Thread Chris Jones
Chuck: It's completely reproducible, you just need to run an awstats
job:

a) on a busy website's logs
b) using logresolvemerge.pl to bring together the logs from multiple hosts,
e.g. LogFile="/usr/share/doc/awstats/examples/logresolvemerge.pl
/path/to/server1/access.log* /path/to/server2/access.log* |"

What seems to happen is that the gzip processes used to unpack the logs
and feed into logresolvemerge.pl exit, but are not acknowledged while
awstats.pl works, so they are technically zombies.

[Bug 564190] [NEW] Update Terminator to 0.93

2010-04-15 Thread Chris Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: terminator

Many thanks to the Release Team for allowing 0.92 into Lucid last week. As
promised, I'm back with another release that addresses:
  * all of the bugs reported against the Ubuntu package
  * as many upstream bugs as have been able to be fully triaged to date

This shakes out to the following LP bugs: bug #562490, bug #563911, bug
#546665, bug #558324, bug #490627, bug #558376, bug #558375, bug
#559185, bug #558330, bug #554571, bug #554440, bug #561697, bug
#562039, bug #558832, bug #561710 and bug #563445, as well as several
other bugs that were not reported via Launchpad.

There is only one non-bugfix change, a patch from Kees Cook to add an
extra tickbox in the preferences UI for a configuration option that was
already present (for those following at home, this would be the union of
revisions 987 and 997 on trunk).

As before, I will continue triage and fix as many reported
bugs/regressions as possible and make timely upstream releases available
before and after release, although I would suspect that at this point
only fixes for serious bugs would be targetted at Lucid, but I would
happily get as many fixes as possible into the release before and after
release day!

[Bug 539015] [NEW] scan utility should now be simple-scan

2010-03-15 Thread Chris Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hplip

I purchase an HP printer/scanner two days ago and plugged it into my
Lucid laptop. Instantly useful in all ways, although I did notice that
after I installed hp-toolbox and used it to fire up a scan it wanted to
launch xsane instead of simple-scan.

AFAICT the two tools accept the same command line option for device, so
switching "xsane" for "simple-scan" worked fine for me.

I suggest doing that in the default setup, since this is the new default
scanning tool for Lucid.
