[Bug 1725676] Re: Keyboard language

2017-10-31 Thread Chris McIntosh
I am also victim to this bug. I installed the Cherokee keyboard layout
using"dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-layout. Then I rebooted per
instructions.

Here I sit with the login screen. My password had been set (in English)
prior to changing the keyboard to Cherokee.

So, I am unable to enter my password since each key generate a Cherokee
syllabic.

Further, I am unable to use the direct Unicode input method since no "U"
key is available.

[Bug 908400] [NEW] Provided SQL script (i.e., create_tables.sql ) creates problems

2011-12-24 Thread Chris McIntosh
Public bug reported:

After much troubleshooting, I discovered that the create_tables.sql
script provided in the documentation causes problems for the program.
The create_tables.sql script creates (among others) a table named
'score_board' -- but the program tries writing to a table named
'scoreboard' (no underscore).

Besides this, the tool is excellent.

Apport has picked up the changed file in my report.

[Bug 906179] [NEW] gkdebconf is unusable

2011-12-18 Thread Chris McIntosh
Public bug reported:

I cannot use gkdebconf. I have tried re-installing (both with and
without purging beforehand) and I get the same results. As soon as the
application starts up, the message "Something wrong happened. Here
should be the package description." is displayed in the Package
Description panel.

Ignoring that, I attempted to use the program. However, when I select a
package to configure it, the description is out of sync. It usually
identifies a package listed before or after the package which I have
selected.

If I also ignore that and click on the configure button, it appears to
go to work... and times out after several seconds... and reports "The
configuration script returned an error status."

The package is unusable... I'll remove it from my toolbox.

[Bug 896512] Re: Sysinfo reports incorrect Gnome version on Ubuntu 11.10

2011-12-04 Thread Chris McIntosh
I thought that I'd file a bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/gnome-desktop/+bug/899882) against the source of this error...

But, it occurred to me (while writing that bug report) that the correct
solution would be to change sysinfo to behave like this (source code is listed
below):
  1) Currently, the Gnome() method assigns
"/usr/share/gnome-about/gnome-version.xml" to the String variable gnome_about.
It then changes the value of the string in case there exists a
"gnome-version.xml" file in the "/opt/gnome/share/gnome-about/" directory.

PROPOSAL:
  2) A similar change should be made if there exists a "gnome-version.xml" file
in the "/usr/share/gnome/" directory. (This file comes from the
gnome-desktop3-data package).

Here is the Gnome() method from SystemInfo.cs in the sysinfo package:

//read GNOME version
public void Gnome() {

String temp;
Boolean gnomeB = false;

//Fedora,RedHat,Debian,Ubuntu,...
String gnome_about =
"/usr/share/gnome-about/gnome-version.xml";
//SuSE
if
(File.Exists("/opt/gnome/share/gnome-about/gnome-version.xml"))
gnome_about =
"/opt/gnome/share/gnome-about/gnome-version.xml";

try {

using (TextReader textread =
File.OpenText(gnome_about)) {

while ( gnomeB == false ) {

temp = textread.ReadLine();

//get version from xml
if (
temp.EndsWith("platform>")) {

temp = temp.Remove(0,
12);
temp =
temp.Remove(temp.IndexOf(""), 11);
system_gnomev = temp;
}

if ( temp.EndsWith("minor>")) {

temp = temp.Remove(0,
9);
temp =
temp.Remove(temp.IndexOf(""), 8);
system_gnomev =
system_gnomev + "." + temp;
}

if ( temp.EndsWith("micro>")) {

temp = temp.Remove(0,
9);
temp =
temp.Remove(temp.IndexOf(""), 8);
system_gnomev =
system_gnomev + "." + temp;
}

//get distributor
if (
temp.EndsWith("distributor>")) {

temp = temp.Remove(0,
15);
temp =
temp.Remove(temp.IndexOf(""), 14);
system_gnomeo = temp;
}

//get build date
if ( temp.EndsWith("date>")) {

temp = temp.Remove(0,
8);
temp =
temp.Remove(temp.IndexOf(""), 7);
system_gnomeo =
system_gnomeo + " " + temp;

gnomeB = true;
}

}

}

}
catch (FileNotFoundException ex) {  Console.WriteLine(
ex );  }
catch (DirectoryNotFoundException ex) {
Console.WriteLine( ex );  }
}

[Bug 899882] [NEW] gnome-version.xml file in this package causes incorrect reporting from sysinfo package

2011-12-04 Thread Chris McIntosh
Public bug reported:

EXPECTATION
I expect to see the correct Gnome version reported when running sysinfo. But,
what is reported by sysinfo is "2.32.1" when, in fact, I am running "3.2.1"

BACKGROUND
Originally, I filed a bug report
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sysinfo/+bug/896512) regarding the
sysinfo package incorrectly reporting the wrong version of Gnome.

After digging around a bit, I discovered that the source of the error is
the gnome-version.xml file in the gnome-desktop-data package.

To fix the problem (locally), I copied the , , ,
 and information from the corresponding gnome-
version.xml file from the gnome-desktop3-data package.

It is possible that gnome-desktop3-data seeks to replace gnome-desktop-
data as each package refers to itself as the "gnome-desktop" in its
corresponding README file.

If this is the case, then sysinfo will need to be corrected... to read
from /usr/share/gnome/gnome-version.xml first... and, if that is
missing, then (do what it is currently doing, and) read from /usr/share
/gnome-about/gnome-version.xml. The latter file is from gnome-desktop-
data and the former is from gnome-desktop3-data.

[Bug 896512] Re: Sysinfo reports incorrect Gnome version on Ubuntu 11.10

2011-12-04 Thread Chris McIntosh
The problem lies in the gnome-desktop-data package. sysinfo gets its
info from /usr/share/gnome-about/gnome-version.xml. This file actually
comes from the gnome-desktop-data package.

There is a second package, gnome-desktop3-data, which also contains a
gnome-version.xml file (in /usr/share/gnome/ directory). Indeed both
gnome-desktop-data and gnome-desktop3-data each refer to itself as
"gnome-desktop" in its corresponding README file contained in
/usr/share/doc/gnome-desktop-data and /usr/share/doc/gnome-desktop3-data
respectively.

As a temporary (and local) fix, I tried replacing the gnome-version.xml
file in the /usr/share/gnome-about/ directory with the one from
/usr/share/gnome/. However, this did not work... apparently because the
latter file does not contain the section. So, I resolved
to simply update the , , , , and
 sections of the former with the values from the latter.

This fixed the problem.

[Bug 844342] Re: Scala-doc is incompatible with the current version of jquery

2011-12-04 Thread Chris McIntosh
Here is a way to resolve the issue on your local machine while awaiting
an official fix:

1) Go to the official Scala-Docs
(http://www.scala-lang.org/api/current/index.html#package)
2)  View the source
3) Download the link to the 2 Javascript files in question (lib/jquery.js and
lib/jquery-ui.js)
4) Remove the links in /usr/share/doc/scala-doc/html/lib
5) Put the downloaded files into /usr/share/doc/scala-doc/html/lib

Of course, you'll need to use sudo for steps 4 & 5.

[Bug 896512] [NEW] Sysinfo reports incorrect Gnome version on Ubuntu 11.10

2011-11-26 Thread Chris McIntosh
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 11.10, gnome-system-monitor reports the following:
  Ubuntu
Release 11.10 (Oneiric)
Kernel Linux 3.0.0-13-generic
Gnome 3.2.1

and other information.

When running Sysinfo on the same machine (in the same session), it reports:
  GNOME: 2.32.1 (Ubuntu 2011-04-14)
  Kernel: 3.0.0-13-generic (#22-Ubuntu SMP...)

Clearly the Gnome version is incorrectly reported. I am, indeed, using
Gnome 3.

lsb_release -rd reports:
Description:  Ubuntu 11.10
Release:  11.10

Using Sysinfo package (0.7-6)

Hope this helps to improve an otherwise nice tool.
