This bugs renders my system almost unusable... regularly it will start
spawning 10s (or 100s?) of apt-check processes which grind the system to
a hold until it runs out of memory and starts killing random user

[Bug 1509140] Re: Can only connect once to wireless network

2015-11-11 Thread Chris Vanden Berghe
Ok, I can confirmed that the issue is solved for me now. The issue was
related to KWallet/Secret Agent not running. By restarting KDED things
magically started working.

I *think* the root cause might be that I was using Kubuntu Updates
(initially) and Kubuntu CI Stable (later on) PPAs on Vivid. All PPAs got
automatically disabled on upgrade to Willy but did leave some files
lingering (as they are at higher version than Willy).

I did the following steps (not all might be necessary):

- opened KWallet, created a new wallet and removed old one
- restarted KDED, added new wifi connection, disconnected from wifi,
reconnected successfully (but connection editor still crashes on edit)
- used ppa-purge to downgrade all packages from above mentioned PPAs (need to
readd PPAs first), used accepted answer on
http://askubuntu.com/questions/363653/remove-all-packages-installed-from-a-ppa
as guide
- confirmed that connection editor no longer crashes
- rebooted, wifi automatically connected, connection editor is working, KWallet
shows connection I created

Restarting KDED improved the situation for me (see KDE bug report). Can
the rest of the affected people give this a try as well?

I haven't checked if the issue reappears after a reboot or looked into
what causes KDED/Secret Agent to misbehave in the first place.

[Bug 1509140] [NEW] Can only connect once to wireless network

2015-10-22 Thread Chris Vanden Berghe
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 15.04 to 15.10 plasma-nm no longer autoconnects to
existing networks. In fact, even clicking on 'connect' in network
manager yields no result. The only way to join a network is to remove
the existing network and readd it. On adding it will connect to the
network. Every subsequent connection attempt requires the same steps
(remove network and readd). In 'Configure network connections' I'm not
able to edit existing networks. The window abruptly closes when I do
that.

Everything worked just fine under 15.04 although I did initially have an
issue on upgrade from 14.10 to 15.04 in which I had to edit existing
wireless networks to enable autoconnect (something along the lines of
allow/enable connection for all users). I only had to this once for each
existing network, though.

[Bug 1342641] Re: libreoffice-kde disables ability to write special characters in libreoffice

2015-05-28 Thread Chris Vanden Berghe
I can confirm that this bug is still present in Kubuntu 15.04 with
Plasma 5.3 (KDE Update PPA).

Steps to reproduce:

1) do a fresh install of Kubuntu 15.04
2) set keyboard to 'english - US, international with dead keys'
3) ' + e yields é in every application EXCEPT for Libreoffice (in fact, ' and
cannot be used at all anymore)

Workaround:

4) apt-get remove libreoffice-kde
5) apt-get install libreoffice-gnome
6) now ' + e yields é in Libreoffice

[Bug 1458788] Re: Kubuntu 15.04 installation fails with grub-install error on raid 0 system

2015-05-26 Thread Chris Vanden Berghe
Hi Phillip,

After 20+ attempts with various configurations I gave up and left
/dev/sda out of the raid array (i.e., /dev/sda as / and /dev/md0 as
/home). I have just finished my reinstall and so I'm afraid I no longer
have access to the requested logs. Maybe somebody else experiencing the
same issue in the future will be able to provide the additional info.

A quick aside, even after removing /dev/sda from the raid array and
using manual partitioning the system the installation was far from
smooth. The installer correctly added

# /home was on /dev/md0 during installation
UUID=fe8c429c-1700-4210-aa76-3dd8d5fd91aa /home   ext4defaults
  0 2

to /etc/fstab but didn't install the mdadm package. As a result the
system hung on reboot.

Chris.

I'm slightly confused about what's 'awkward' about this description.
I'm sure you're aware that with Transmission the gui and daemon can run
on different machines?

Anyway, the report can be closed as the issue can be solved by upgrading
both gui and daemon to the latest version.

Re: [Bug 988162] Re: Downloads go into error mode after a while

2012-05-02 Thread Chris Vanden Berghe
Two separate machines: server was version 2.33 and desktop (gui) version
2.51. They connect fine but downloads go in this error state for one
reason or the other. I have now also upgraded the server to
Transmission version 2.51 (as part of 12.04 upgrade) which solved the issue.

Re: [Bug 484618] Re: [needs-packaging] [upgrade] Please update ccrypt to version 1.9

2011-05-26 Thread Chris Vanden Berghe
Hi all,

I agree that an upgrade of ccrypt is long overdue.

I have yesterday tried to build the 1.9 package (based on the 1.7
package) but unfortunately the build fails during the configure step.
Not sure why yet but it basically fails at the build system type check.
Any help welcome.

I have also asked the upstream maintainer to comment on the name clash.

Rgds,
Chris.
