[Bug 201413] Re: More helpful names/prompts for encrypted partitions

2008-04-03 Thread Christian Juner
I have yet refrained from installing this update because I actually have
to hard drives which are encrypted independently - so I am asked for two
passwords each boot. How will this affect me? I use two different
passwords so I need to tell the hard drives them appart.

How about introducing a check that if more than one drive is encrypted
you do it's device name (or possibly its disk label, which should be
human readable).

I have meanwhile installed the new version. I am asked "To unlock the
disk you need to enter its password:" for both encrypted partitions.

[Bug 1268257] Re: nvidia-331-updates 331.38-0ubuntu3: nvidia-331-updates kernel module failed to build, with only error: "objdump: '... .tmp_nv.o': No such file"

2015-03-11 Thread Christian Juner
I ran into (apparently the same) this bug with nvidia-340 and
nvidia-340-uvm on vivid. The crash reporter directed it to this bug. You
should probably either assign my crash report data to a new bug
concerning nvidia-340 and nvidia-340-uvm, or add these as affected
packages.

[Bug 1442649] Re: nautilus trash doesn't include btrfs subvolumes

2015-07-18 Thread Christian Juner
The trouble seems to stem from glib's way of deleting files being
different to the way gvfs tries to locate trash directories.

glib's gio/glocalfile.c contains the find_mountpoint_for function which
is used to determine the device's root directory as location to put the
.Trash- directory. It looks at the stat(2) st_dev value ("device
number"). btrfs gives each subvolume a different device number.

gvfs's trashlib searches for trash directories based on mount points
determined by getmntent_r(2).

I do not know how to fix it in general. A fix for btrfs might be to
search for all subvolumes of a btrfs mount point returned by
getmntent_r(2). Not sure if you can listen to new subvolumes being
created after the initial search, though (maybe inotify can?).

[Bug 88081] Re: no usb hub is working anymore

I seemed to have the same problem. modprob'ing ehci_hcd solved it for
me. I know have it in /etc/modules and everything works fine as far as I
can tell.

I just did wonder because it worked perfectly (that is including auto
detection) in Edgy and suddenly stopped working with the first Feisty
kernel I installed.

If it's any help: I have an nforce2 mainboard.

If there is any further information I could help with, please let me
know.

[Bug 796755] [NEW] [natty] LVM sometimes fails to mount /home at boot

2011-06-13 Thread Christian Juner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lvm2

I have recently upgraded to natty. Since then every few reboots plymouth
displays (not word by word accurate) "Waiting for /home, You can wait,
skip the mount or run a maintenance shell". Choosing the maintenance
shell and running "mount -a" fixes the problem, but I have to do that
every boot that fails like this.

Some LVM processes seem to hang:
root 28275 0 11:01 ?00:00:00 /lib/udev/watershed sh -c
/sbin/lvm vgscan; /sbin/lvm vgchange -a y
root   283   282  0 11:01 ?00:00:00 sh -c /sbin/lvm vgscan;
/sbin/lvm vgchange -a y
I see those from the maintenance shell and also after the system has fully
booted.

Bug #561390 seems to describe the same symptoms but is allegedly fixed.
However, I experience this problem with the current version of natty.
Given the similarity to this bug, the cause might also be mountall or
udev (or possibly something else entirely).

Also in all the cases I have to do the mount manually, /dev/shm is
mounted with incorrect permissions (described as well in Bug #561390)
preventing ecryptfs and chromium from running.

I have never encountered this problem before natty (system was running
fine for 2+ years).

I will gladly submit any logs I am asked to (whenever this happens
again, usually around every third boot).

[Bug 793115] [NEW] openssh in natty breaks monkeysphere

2011-06-05 Thread Christian Juner
Public bug reported:

Monkeysphere allows you to store your ssh keys in your gpg key.
`monkeysphere s` should export your ssh key to the ssh-agent. This does
not work in natty because of a change introduced in openssh (`ssh-add
-l` lists nothing).

The bug is already fixed in Debian (see ). Suggested fix: pull patch / current
openssh version from Debian.

I have verified that the version in Debian built on my machine fixes the
bug for me.

[Bug 793115] Re: openssh in natty breaks monkeysphere

2011-06-08 Thread Christian Juner
(question) Will that happen for natty/natty-proposed or will the fix
only be included in the next Ubuntu release? The latter would be quite a
disappointment considering the problem makes the client side of
monkeysphere unusable for everyone running natty (without building their
own openssh packages).

[Bug 580483] [NEW] [Realtek ALC889] "Speaker" mixer volume reset to 0 on boot

2010-05-14 Thread Christian Juner
Public bug reported:

On every boot sound is inaudible due to the "Speaker" volume
(configurable in alsamixer) being reset to 0. I am not sure whether this
is pulseaudio's or ALSA's fault. When I raise the volume on the
"Speaker" control, stereo playback works fine.

This system is upgraded from Karmic, where if I remember correctly, this
"Speaker" mixer did not exist - this may be related to the bug.

I also assume this might be related to Bug #410446, although I have not
yet investigated that.

Note this was the case with "options snd-hda-intel model=auto" set in
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.

With "options snd-hda-intel model=acer-aspire-8930g", surround does
work, however external mics have stopped working Bug #580508.

[Bug 407970] [NEW] Wine, Pulseaudio and no more sound in 2.6.31 - regression?

2009-08-02 Thread Christian Juner
Public bug reported:

Running system: karmic amd64 with all updates as of today
Wine version: wine1.2 1.1.26-0ubuntu1

I have both the generic (2.6.31-4-generic) and rt (2.6.29.6-1-rt)
kernels installed.

For a long time running karmic (almost since day 1), running
applications in Wine with sound worked fine. They used Wine's ALSA
interface which in turn was run through the ALSA pulseaudio plugin.

Some time ago that stopped working for me.

However, when I boot with the rt kernel (which is still 2.6.29) - it's
back working.

Running winecfg with 2.6.29 I see the following outputs/inputs listed under
ALSA (from my memory, so might look a little different):
- waveout
- midi out 1
- midi out 2
- mixer

With 2.6.31, waveout disappears and only two midi outs and mixer remain.

So I suspect there has been a regression somewhere. It may very well be
connected to my hardware and not be a general regression.

I'll be glad to provide any information requested and hope this can be
fixed.
