OK, so /var/cache/app-info/ exists before and after software-updater
runs. But it does not exist in between while it prepáres the upgrade.

[Bug 1794213] Re: Crash on Upgrade to 18.10 from 18.04 Network Not Available

2019-02-27 Thread Christian Kirbach
I can confirm, experiencing the same.

So from what I understand is that apt executes

if /usr/bin/test -w /var/cache/app-info -a -e /usr/bin/appstreamcli;
then appstreamcli refresh-cache > /dev/null; fi

which fails. It checks whether the two files /var/cache/app-info and
/usr/bin/appstreamcli both exist and if so it attempts to run
appstreamcli. appstreamcli handles AppStream metadata and the AppStream
index.

/var/cache/app-info does not exist on my system. Not sure if it is
supposed to be there all the time or just during the uggrade process.

Leaving my VM in the current condition so I can gather more information
if needed.

[Bug 1794104] [NEW] Xorg crash on first boot after apt upgrade

2018-09-24 Thread Christian Kirbach
Public bug reported:

I installed a daily snapshot of 18.10 in a VM.
After removing some unneccessary application, I ran

apt update
apt upgrade

and rebooted. I noticed X crashing after the reboot, taking me back to the
login manager. I have the option selected to automatically login without
password.
X did not crash when coming up the second time, tough.

IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory:
'/var/lib/apt/lists/ppa.launchpad.net_ubuntu-mate-

looks to me like something is hardcoded to expect that PPA to be active.
I had never enabled it.

[Bug 1499847] Re: system upgrade freezes when package upgrade fails

2015-09-26 Thread Christian Kirbach
I know that a separate bug is open for the failing package.
This is about a different issue: upgrade-manager just froze with above python
stack trace. The exception of a failing package upgrade should be handled. I
admit that it should not happen.

[Bug 1499847] [NEW] system upgrade freezes when package upgrade fails

2015-09-25 Thread Christian Kirbach
Public bug reported:

I tried to upgrade from 15.04 to 15.10beta2 using "update-manager -c -d"

package "modemmanager" fails to update, and that in turn makes update-
manager get stuck in the "update" phase indicated in the GUI.

Console log:

# update-manager -c -d

[Bug 1449448] Re: fglrx-core 2:15.200-0ubuntu4: fglrx-core kernel module failed to build [error: ‘IRQF_DISABLED’ undeclared (first use in this function)]

2015-08-17 Thread Christian Kirbach
You are using kernel 4.1
This AMD catalyst (fglrx) does not support kernel 4.1

A patch has been suggested
Fall back to kernel 4.0 and it should work again

I get this, too, with a .crash file from qemu that for some reason seems
to be truncated after the USerGroups section !?

Attaching the .crash file causing this issue.

[Bug 1386465] Re: apparmor profile prevents libvirtd from creating a socket

2014-10-29 Thread Christian Kirbach
I did not have libvirt-bin installed before the upgrade, I installed it
afterwards.

I renamed /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd , purged libvirt-bin and
reinstalled it.
to my surprise the diff between /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd and the
renamed file is zero.

For some reason I am no longer able to reproduce the issue. apparmor is
set to enforcing

root@rivendell:/etc/apparmor.d# aa-status --verbose
apparmor module is loaded.
24 profiles are loaded.
24 profiles are in enforce mode.
...
   /usr/sbin/libvirtd

thanks for your efforts

[Bug 1386465] [NEW] apparmor profile prevents libvirtd from creating a socket

2014-10-27 Thread Christian Kirbach
Public bug reported:

I'd like to emphasize that I upgraded from Ubuntu Gnome 14.4 to 14.10
I installed systemd.

libvirtd fails to start on the stock upgrade system. Examining the log
files it looks like apparmor prevents libvirtd from creating a net
socket.

Okt 28 00:31:49 rivendell kernel: audit: type=1400 audit(1414452709.808:42):
apparmor="DENIED" operation="create" profile="/usr/sbin/libvirtd" pid=15162
comm="libvirtd" family="netlink" sock_type="raw" protocol=9
Okt 28 00:31:49 rivendell kernel: audit: type=1400 audit(1414452709.808:43):
apparmor="DENIED" operation="create" profile="/usr/sbin/libvirtd" pid=15162
comm="libvirtd" family="netlink" sock_type="raw" protocol=0

I tried to run

 aa-logprof

in order to have apparmor fix the permissions but that did not work.
that is why modified apparmor profiles are attached.

Putting apparmor in audit mode

 aa-audit /usr/sbin/libvirtd

enables me to start libvirt

 systemctl restart libvirtd

It looks like the apparmor profile permissions have to be adjusted.

[Bug 1227838] Re: gthumb doesn't display thumbnails correctly on UG 13.10 + Gnome 3.10

2013-09-24 Thread Christian Kirbach
Confirming the problem description.

I installed that package from the PPA against a saucy+gnome3-next install
Thumbnails work properly now, but the app windows layout is wrong leaving most
of the screen estate unused.
I guess it makes sense to repackage it for the gnome3-next PPA

Since I am learning about packaging I'd volunteer.

I can confirm the missing messages list. Probably due to the changes in glade,
there were some gtranslator bugs.
Gtranslator is totally unusable as it is in its current version.

may I suggest to push an upgrade for the latest version?

The help menu was converted to a GMenu, which shows up in the top bar of

the menu does nto show there.

[Bug 1114403] [NEW] Official release 3.0.0, released on 2012-11-12

2013-02-03 Thread Christian Kirbach
Public bug reported:

Hi

the version provided in Ubuntu seems to be a prerelease, which is API
incompatible with the official release 3.0.0, released on 2012-11-12

I just see two packages that depend on gtkspell-3:
gtranslator and libgwibber-gtk3

Would it be possible to upgrade to the official stable release 3.0.0 ?

We will need to do this anyways when updating gtranslator to the lastest
version.

** Affects: gtkspell3 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 571371] Re: Ubuntu One sync is ridiculously slow

2011-10-25 Thread Christian Kirbach
Something must be still wrong with ubuntu one. I have purchased €35 worth of
music, and it has been downloading for many hours,
still way to go.
As supportive as I am in favour of Ubuntu, If this is common customer
experience, then I am afraid to say
Ubuntu one music is not competitive at all.
