[Bug 1368093] [NEW] linux-firmware-nonfree missing files after update (precise)

2014-09-11 Thread Christian S.
Public bug reported:

After update from linux-firmware-nonfree 1.11ubuntu2 to 1.11ubuntu4 my wireless
device isn't working any longer. dmesg reviles that the needed firmware file
missing that the package above claims to provide according its file list:
/lib/firmware/b43/ucode5.fw
http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/all/linux-firmware-nonfree/filelist

my /lib/firmware/b43/ directory contains only 5 files but according the
package file list it should be much more.

Reinstalling the package does not help.

Installing the inital precise release package linux-firmware-
nonfree_1.11ubuntu.deb helps for me at least.

[Bug 1300393] Re: Connected external monitor causes very high cpu usage by compiz

2014-04-06 Thread Christian S.
** Description changed:

- Steps to reproduce: connect a external monitor an login to unity - the
- cpu usage of compiz increases insanely high by just moving some window
- around. In this state unity is not really usable.
+ When a external monitor is connected at login, cpu usage of compiz is
+ very high and the system is not usable.

- There is no difference if the external monitor is used for output or
- not. It just have to be connected when login. And there are no problems
- when the monitor is unconnected when login and connected after.
+ There is no difference whether the external monitor is used for output
+ or not. It just have to be connected when login. There are no problems

[Bug 1300393] [NEW] Connected external monitor causes very high cpu usage by compiz

2014-03-31 Thread Christian S.
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce: connect a external monitor an login to unity - the
cpu usage of compiz increases insanely high by just moving some window
around. In this state unity is not really usable.

There is no difference if the external monitor is used for output or
not. It just have to be connected when login. And there are no problems
when the monitor is unconnected when login and connected after.

2014-03-31 Thread Christian S.
OK you are right. I opened a ticket for those the fix in comment #6 does not
work and the issue appears when a external monitor is connected when login
(e.g. as described in #77 and 76):

[Bug 1222602] Re: [regression] [gen3] Mesa 9.2 makes Unity unusable on Atom class hardware and 943/945 graphics controllers

2014-03-30 Thread Christian S.
For your crt/lcd monitor - maybe this issue depends on the resolution
of the external screen.

Does appear that issue if you have connected your screen at boot-time,
then disconnected when the lightdm login screen is showing and you
logged in (without connected external screen)?

Today I had the problem again. Booted and did login (external monitor connected
over vga but not used for output)- high compiz cpu usage
logged out and in again - high cpu
disonnected monitor, logged out, logged in - normal compiz cpu usage
again logged out/in - normal compiz cpu usage
connected monitor again, logged out/in - high compiz cpu usage again (still
the external monitor is not used for output)

2014-03-29 Thread Christian S.
@Stephan you are now the 3. or 4. who has this issue when an external
screen is connected at booting. That seems to call for a new ticket. But
I installed todays updates (14.04), rebooted and all good. Currently
compiz does not use 50% of cpu power any longer.

nope, I must correct myself. Same problem as described by Marco in #70.
The issue remains when a external monitor is connected at startup even
it isn't used and the Mesa environment variable is set.

MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=1.4 to the /etc/environment works for me on
14.04, but there are also no issues when no external monitor is
connected to vga at startup

This issue still exists with a fresh install of 12.04.3 and 13.10. The

[Bug 1244587] [NEW] bcmwl breaks ethernet controller BCM4401

2013-10-25 Thread Christian S.
Public bug reported:

bcmwl blacklists module b44 in /etc/modprobe/blacklist-bcm43.conf which causes
that no driver for ethernet controller broadcom BCM4401 will be loaded.
Blacklisting module b44 by bcmwl seems unlogical because bcmwl does not offer
any driver for bcm4401.

This issue does not exists while using saucy live cd enviroment, but
after installing saucy you do not have ethernet connection

Steps to reproduce: install saucy 13.10

[Bug 408417] Re: No option to log in remotely via XDMCP

2010-08-08 Thread Christian S
I fell over this thread when I was installing a 10.4 in a VM today.

I had some other problems (network configuration), but when they were
solved the XDMCP issue turned up.

It took about 5 mins to solve that problem!!! In my /etc/gdm I have an
xml schema called: gdm.schema. In the schema you will find a key called:
enable/XDMCP. It is a boolan value and it was set to false. I changed it
to true and rebooted my system. I'm now happily connecting to the server
with Xming using XDMCP.
