I think this is an update problem from Hardy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo apt-get install linux-restricted-modules-generic Reading package lists... This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that the package is simply not installable and a bug report against that package should be filed. [Bug 239757] Re: Rhythmbox jams after other apps use ALSA
I would like to confirm this bug too. I first experienced it when I upgraded to Hardy (I updated to Intrepid and it is still buggy). I think it is related to the flash plugin. I noticed that I have playback problems in rhythmbox only when Firefox is running (not all the time, probably when there is or there was flash running). The symptoms are the sames as the bug reporter's. I double-click on a track to play it, no sound and the progress bar does not move. I have to close/kill rhythmbox, close firefox, open rhythmbox again and now playback is working. This happens really often. I would be happy to provide more specific information (or make some tests on your behalf) if someone is willing to fix this annoying bug. -- Rhythmbox jams after other apps use ALSA https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/239757 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 239757] Re: Rhythmbox jams after other apps use ALSA
This is very easy to reproduce here : 1. Launch firefox 2. Play a song in rhythmbox 3. Pause the song in rhythmbox 4. Go to youtube and play a video 5. Pause the video on youtube 6. Resume the song playback in rhythmbox <- this fails and you need to kill rhythmbox. [Bug 112306] Re: libtorrent name used by both rTorrent and qBitTorrent
I already renamed our libtorrent for debian release to rblibtorrent. The problem is that the libtorrent included by Debian (and used by rtorrent) conflicts with our libtorrent. The .so file is the same (/usr/lib/libtorrent.so). Hence, my debian packages take this into consideration add clearly declare that both libtorrents conflict. This is unfortunate but this is not a bug I think. Please fix folder rights or configuration and restart GDM." Although the dialog has an "OK" button, it is impossible to press it. I have to press CTRL+ALT+F2 to get a terminal. The only way to make it work again is to plug the laptop on sector power (I do not change anything else). The problem IS related to the fact that the laptop is on battery power or not. [Bug 234408] Re: Xorg fails to execute on Laptop when using battery
I don't know if it is related but just before that, I tried to suspend the laptop but it failed (suspend is far from reliable here). Therefore, I had to press the power button for 5 seconds to switch it off. Then I unplugged the power cable and I booted the laptop again -> Got the error. I can't remember if, the previous times I experienced this bug, it was the same scenario or not. [Bug 283212] [NEW] kernel panic in 2.6.27
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.27 I have just updated from Hardy to Intrepid and since then I experience random kernel panic (quite often, making system unusable). I believe this is kernel panic because: - System is totally freezing (unresponsive) - No ping response - All laptop LEDs are blinking. I believe this is related to Wifi driver because it does not seem to be happening when disabling Wifi (hardware switch). My laptop is a DELL XPS M1330 (shipped with Ubuntu). [Bug 284867] [NEW] too hard to use "sudo apt-get" behind a proxy with authentication
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: sudo % lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1 Release:8.04 The configuration needed to get "sudo apt-get" working when behind a proxy with authentication is not trivial. Here are some ideas to enhance it. Here is my environment : I am on an enterprise network, behind a proxy requiring authentication for http. I want to access a repository server from the outside world. To use apt-get with the proxy, I configured the proxy with the GNOME proxy capplet. I set the proxy host to "proxy.myenterprise.com" and proxy port to "90" in the configuration tab, and a list of hosts to exclude in the advanced tab, like "localhost" and "*.myenterprise.com" in the list. When I open a terminal, the environment variable http_proxy is set to "http://proxy.myenterprise.com:90/"; which is correct, but it is not enough to let me get some data from the outside with "sudo apt-get update". In fact the proxy refuses my request because authentication is required. To provide my authentication credentials, I need to manually set http_proxy to "http://username:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:90/". Then "sudo apt-get update" works. But I need a little more : we have a local mirror of the repository for the binary packages on our enterprise network (which is debmirror.myenterprise.com), but not for the source packages so we still use "archive.ubuntu.com" as repository. If I try to "sudo apt-get update", it will try to reach debmirror.myenterprise.com by using the proxy, but it won't work. I mentionned that I configured the GNOME proxy capplet to ignore host matching "localhost,*.myenterprise.com". That's why I have the $no_proxy environment variable set to "*.myenterprise.com". But "sudo apt-get update" still does not work the way it should. The reason it does not work are : * the environment variable $no_proxy is not preserved when calling sudo, in contrary to $http_proxy. To see it, run "sudo -V" as root: it gives a list of the environment variables that are checked/removed/preserved. * $no_proxy environment variable does not allow wildcards : it should rather be no_proxy="localhost,myenterprise.com" So to have the environment variable $no_proxy preserved when calling sudo, I have to add the following line in my sudoers file : Defaultsenv_keep+="no_proxy" And to have some correct $http_proxy and $no_proxy variables, I have to define them in my .bashrc. When I do all this, it works like a charm: I can access to inside repositories, or outside repository. But to get it working, you need to know a lot of system things. So here are my ideas: * In the GNOME proxy capplet, in the advanced tab, have a checkbox "the proxy needs authentication" which allows to enter authentication credentials. This could be stored safely in the GNOME keyring. So they can be used to set $http_proxy to "http://username:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:port/". * sudo already preserve the $http_proxy environment variable (bug #194238 mentions it). I think it should also preserve the $no_proxy environment variable to ignore some hosts for the proxy. * the GNOME proxy capplet allows to enter some hosts to ignore, but it fails to translate them correctly in the $no_proxy environment variable. It needs a filter to remove wildcards and keep only valid hosts (for example, "192.168.*" cannot be in $no_proxy in the "192.168." form, but *.myenterprise.com can with the "myenterprise.com" form). I assigned this bug to sudo because from the 3 problems I exposed, modifying the sudoers file to preserve the $no_proxy variable is the only thing a normal user cannot do. But I could also have assigned this bug to the GNOME proxy capplet. ** Affects: sudo (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- too hard to use "sudo apt-get" behind a proxy with authentication https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/284867 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
