[Bug 1073372] Re: Xorg produces high CPU usage, slow gnome-terminal

2013-04-03 Thread Christophe Dumez
I'm glad I found this bug report. I was having exactly the same issue
after I installed Ubuntu 12.10 (Had no such problem with 12.04). I had
to reboot the machine every day or two as the UI was becoming very
unresponsive and Xorg was using a lot of CPU.

I also confirm that installing the libcairo2 (and libpixman-1) from the
13.04 repository solves the problem. Thanks to the reporter for this
workaround solution.

[Bug 782909] Re: qBittorrent will not display window in Natty Ubnutu 11.04

2011-05-15 Thread Christophe Dumez
Well, my guess was that you had the setting "Start minimized" enabled.
This is why I asked you to remove the configuration file to reset of
default settings.

If the setting "start minimized" is enabled and if the tray icon is not
working (like on Unity), then you don't see the window and there is no
way to show it.

[Bug 663846] Re: kde freeze when 3d desktop is active or not active

2011-04-13 Thread Christophe Dumez
Similar issue here. Often, applications freeze and I have to kill them
(qtcreator for example). Sometimes, it is even worse and the whole
system freezes and I need to reboot.

After a system freeze, I tried to use CTRL+ALT+Fx then check dmesg and
Xorg log but there was nothing strange in those. I'm not sure where else
to check if this happens again.

Ok, I understand what's happening and I'll look into it soon. Thanks for
the feedback.

In the meantime, I suggest you stop unselecting files that were already
downloaded. It is not that useful to unselect those anyway because
qbittorrent will simply, detect, recheck and seed them (it won't try to
overwrite or anything).

Here is the mount entry:
//192.168.1.2/encrypted/ on /home/chris/hydro type cifs
(rw,mand,nosuid,nodev,user=chris)

It is mounted with "user" option so that a regular user can unmount it without
sudo. Unfortunately, this does not help.
My cifs share uses authentication, I don't know if it matters.

The behavior is consistent, suspend fails every time if the cifs share
is mounted. I'll be happy to provide additional information if you need.

[Bug 726005] Re: indicator-applet crashed with SIGSEGV in g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__POINTER()

2011-03-28 Thread Christophe Dumez
If someone is interested, I manage to reproduce this bug consistently with
latest Natty:
- Unplug the power cord
- wait a few seconds
- Plug back the power cord
- The complete indicator applet crashes and I get a dialog asking me if I want
to reload it.

I don't think it is related to Unity since I'm using Gnome 2.

[Bug 659099] Re: I/O error when programs attempt access to folders with names ending in a file extension

2011-02-26 Thread Christophe Dumez
I tried to reproduce as follows:
- Add a torrent having a root folder and rename the root folder to ".test".
- Restart qBittorrent

The torrent was resumed just fine, no I/O error. It is possible that the
error was already fixed (I'm using v2.6.6) but it would be surprising as
I don't remember any recent bugfix that could be related.

Are you able to reproduce the issue? If so, could you please walk me
through it?

[Bug 639659] Re: Memory leak - The memory is taking more and more space until the computer becomes deadly slow.

2010-12-30 Thread Christophe Dumez
In v0.15.4, There is still a high CPU usage problem which occurs just
before torrent completion. It has been fixed in libtorrent SVN and will
be included in the soon-to-be released v0.15.5. Maybe the Deluge guys
should package a SVN snapshot of the RC_0_15 branch on their PPA (as I
do for the qBittorrent PPA).

[Bug 657855] Re: Systray icon menu is overridden by main window menu

2010-10-10 Thread Christophe Dumez
After some more testing, it appears it is the File menu which overrides
my existing systray icon menu. I don't think the File menu should be
forced on the systray icon if it already has a menu.

Also, I managed to get the global menu to be shown by doing as follows:
1. Run qbittorrent
-> The global menu is not shown
2. Click on the systray icon to hide the main window
3. Click again on the systray icon the show the main window
-> The global menu magically appears

[Bug 657855] [NEW] Systray icon menu is overridden by main window menu

2010-10-10 Thread Christophe Dumez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Hi,

Today I updated my netbook to Ubuntu v10.10 and I noticed that it broke the
usability of the application I develop: qBittorrent.
As far I as understood, the main window menu (application menu) is now supposed
to be shown in the system tray (so-called global menu on Unity). However, the
qBittorrent application menu does not appear there (the global menu is left
empty) and it is shown when clicking on the systray icon instead. This is
obviously not ideal. The worse is that qBittorrent has a specific menu for its
systray icon which is no longer accessible.

I believe that this is a bug in Unity because existing applications
should not have to be updated to work with Unity. However, if you think
it is caused by an issue in my code, please point me in the right
direction and I'll update qBittorrent. qBittorrent is based on Qt4.

Thank you in advance.

[Bug 654152] [NEW] Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 supports abg only

2010-10-03 Thread Christophe Dumez
Public bug reported:

I installed maverick on my DELL Latitude E4310 which has a Intel Centrino
Ultimate-N 6300 wireless card.
I have a Linksys WRT610N router also.

As a consequence, I should be able to connect in 802.11n mode (It works
as expected on Windows so this is not a hardware issue).

However, I only get abg modes as you can see:

wlan0 IEEE 802.11abg ESSID:"chris"
  Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: 68:7F:74:9B:3F:50

  Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
  Power Management:off
  Link Quality=70/70 Signal level=-39 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
  Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

I using the following kernel:
Linux chris-PC 2.6.35-22-generic-pae #33-Ubuntu SMP Sun Sep 19 22:14:14 UTC
2010 i686 GNU/Linux

I tried to install linux-backports-modules-wireless-maverick-generic-pae
but it did not help either.

[Bug 653645] [NEW] Missing dependency on polkit-kde-1

2010-10-02 Thread Christophe Dumez
Public bug reported:

In Maverick, the kubuntu-desktop metapackage does not seem to depend on
polkit-kde-1. As a result, I encountered several authentication issues
(kpackagekit, qapt-batch) until I realized that this package was
missing.

I was using ubuntu-desktop and decided to give kubuntu a try simply by typing:
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

It installed KDE but not polkit-kde-1 and thus the system was not
entirely usable. I believe that a package dependency should be added.

could somebody that experience this run a heap profile? google-performance
tools are good for this for instance.

You can inject tcmalloc when starting qBittorrent or Deluge, specify to
enable heap profiling and go. Generate a report with pprof and one of
the heap files from when libtorrent started using a ton of memory and
attach it here.

2010-09-28 Thread Christophe Dumez
How easy is it to reproduce?

It would be interesting to see the output of strace when cpu usage gets
abnormally high. The libtorrent bug report seems to suggest an issue
with device poll() implementation in asio. It would be interesting to
see if it is the same issue here.

If it is, then an easy fix would be to recompile libtorrent with
-DBOOST_ASIO_DISABLE_DEV_POLL

I talked about this with the libtorrent author yesterday and he told me
that it might be caused by invalid tracker URLs. He said that there are
still some tracker announcing issues in v0.15.3 that he is hoping to fix

An easy way to test it he said would be to create a torrent with an
invalid tracker URL (for example not starting by http://) and load it.

[Bug 535509] Re: apt-get always crash with Segmentation fault (core dumped) if /var/log/apt doesn't exist.

2010-07-13 Thread Christophe Dumez
This bug has not been fixed in Lucid (probably only in Maverick).

Shouldn't it be fixed in Lucid too?

[Bug 290666] Re: Liferea stalling, uses excessive number of fsyncs

2010-05-06 Thread Christophe Dumez
Disabling barriers on my ext4 partition seems to help.

in /etc/fstab:
UUID=9b920777-5aca-40f8-afa5-631a04057401 / ext4
defaults,noatime,nodiratime,barrier=0 1 1
UUID=27941cae-e541-407e-9572-f0adc25ba175 /home ext4
defaults,noatime,nodiratime,barrier=0 1 2

I added "barrier=0" as option and rebooted.

[Bug 567085] Re: qbittorrent package is broken on ubuntu lucid

2010-04-21 Thread Christophe Dumez
0.15.0+really.0.14.10-0ubuntu1 (now) -> 0.14.10-2~lucid~ppa1

None of these versions comes from Ubuntu Lucid Official repository. The
first one comes from my karmic PPA (outdated for your Lucid) and the
second one comes from Deluge PPA.

I'm not exactly sure why Deluges compiles v0.14.10 for Lucid because it
is already in the official repository...
