I know that it is a closed source driver and to be honest with you, this
is the only place where I see this bug being reported. But I really
don't know where else to report it other than the ones that are
currently working on this driver (which again, idk of to contact them)

2024 and this bug is still around. The card is unable to pick up a wifi
that has a channel higher than 48. What could be done in order to have
this bug fixed ? Anything I can help with, like providing tests idk

2020-08-24 Thread christos pontikis
Hello, same problem here.

It seems that @Helge Meinhard workaround WORKS. Thanks!

In my case:
Workstation: Xubuntu Focal 20.04 LTS
Laptop.: Xubuntu Bionic 18.04 LTS
Server.: Debian 10 Buster

(1)
I didn't uninstall unison unison-all unison-all-gtk from Focal

(2)
I copied the binaries
/usr/bin/unison-2.48.4 and /usr/bin/unison-2.48.4-gtk
from Bionic to Focal

(3)
I deleted all ~/.unison/fp* (in all machines)

Various tasks between Focal and (Bionic or Buster) are working.

[Bug 1871913] Re: super key does not work with secondary keyboard layout

2020-04-26 Thread Christos Sintoris
@dani.behzi comment #8 was very helpful. I wad also turned on the
Pointer Location setting in gnome tweaks, and all Ctrl+Key shortcuts
were unusable in the secondary input mode. This is much more devastating
than missing Super functionality in secondary input mode (Ctrl+C/+X/+V,
Ctrl+Shift+Arrow etc).

Still Super key problem remains.

Notes
1) Sound is working using sof
2) sof configuration files are not in master branch of

3) 5.3.0-42, breaks sof again.
4) https://github.com/thesofproject/linux/issues/1877 here a discussion is

[Bug 1767594] Re: Ubuntu-18.04 Installation/Upgrade freezes/does not work.

2018-10-06 Thread David Christos Giuliana
Hello everybody,
I have an ASUS X556U(J).
It has an i7-6500U and NVidia GeForce GTX 920M.
Had the same problem myself. The installation would freeze on a random window,
usually the language selection.
Simply, update your BIOS and this should resolve the issue.
I successfully installed Ubuntu 18.04.1 with no problems.

[Bug 1671360] Re: System doesn't boot properly on Gigabyte AM4 motherboards (AMD Ryzen)

2017-06-26 Thread Christos
Hi Kai,

I've just tested pending 17.10 and have the same results. Are there any
specific BIOS options required?

My system is currently using IOMMU for my 16GB ECC RAM. This is the only
option I have changed in the BIOS.

Arch can successfully boot on the machine.

If you need anything testing, I can try it on my machine if needed, will
use another SSD for Windows.

Thanks,

Christos

[Bug 1671360] Re: System doesn't boot properly on Gigabyte AM4 motherboards (AMD Ryzen)

2017-06-25 Thread Christos
Hi,

My machine uses the Gigabyte X370 Gaming 5 with the 1800X. No OS on the
SSD.

I'm unable to boot from USB using:

- 17.04 live usb
- 17.10 daily live usb

IRQ 07 errors and the system hangs without entering the installer.

I've tried the above grub parameters acpi=off with no luck.

What are the steps needed to boot into a live usb and get ubuntu
installed to then enter -proposed and get the upgraded kernel packages
for full usage?

Thanks!

Dear Larry and other troubled souls,

Thank you very much for your efforts in getting this working. I can
happily report that finally this seems to be working smoothly on an

[Bug 1239578] Re: No wireless support for Realtek RTL8192EE [10ec:818b]

2014-11-19 Thread Christos
PS. Just to check, I set up the wireless with no authentication, with
the same results, apart from the line about WEP. If I turn off/on
wireless networking, I can connect to the wifi again briefly. However,
afterwards it does not even appear in the menu (probably thinks it's out
of range) unless I turn off/on wifi again.

Re: [Bug 842947] Re: [SB-XFi - Creative X-Fi, recording] No sound at all

2013-06-14 Thread Christos Kloukinas
Hi Jarno,
here are two screen-shots of my alsamixer UI for steps 2 and 3 from
http://fixedproblem.blogspot.fi/2012/03/creative-x-fi-xtrememusic-ubuntu-1110.html

And also screen-shots of my sound settings for output and input.

Don't know if they'll help at all. Seems like Dell has installed a sound
card from hell... :-/

If you have any further ideas for things I could try, let me know. I'll
give them a shot once I'm back at work on Monday.

Have a nice weekend!

Christos

Re: [Bug 842947] Re: [SB-XFi - Creative X-Fi, recording] No sound at all

2013-06-14 Thread Christos Kloukinas
Dear Jarno,
thank you for looking into this!

Unfortunately, I still have the same problem.
For some reason I think that the microphone jack is recognised as an
output instead of an input.
I've tried installing hda-jack-retask but this one doesn't work with my
sound card.

Indeed, on the page you've sent me, at step 2, it says:
2. alsamixer will open in the terminal. Use your arrow keys to move over
to "Digit-IO". Press the "M" key and you should hear sound from your
mic. Now arrow left to "Mic" and hold the down arrow key until the
levels go to 0.
When I press the M key I hear nothing.

My current OS (System details) is: ubuntu 12.04 LTS, 64 bit
uname -a
Linux sloane 3.5.0-18-generic #29-Ubuntu SMP Thu Oct 25 07:26:14 UTC
2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

No longer remember how to produce the full system info dump that I had
submitted - would be more than glad to resubmit the info if I remembered
the command...

All the best and thanks again for the effort!
Christos

[Bug 945006] Re: Screen flickers heavily after upgrading to 12.04 beta 1

2012-05-29 Thread Christos Sintoris
Hi,

after reading comment #27, I upgraded again from 11.10 to 12.04 and the problem
has disappeared almost completely.
Now there is no flickering during regular use of the laptop.

There is a small nuisance left though, don't know if it is worth fixing. Short
flickering appears during logging in:
1. Boot laptop
2. Enter the password and press enter
3. Wait for log in <- flickering occurs here
4. Before Unity appears the flickering stops

Chris

2012-03-08 Thread Christos Sintoris
I run this machine with Ubuntu for a couple of years. The most recent
version was 11.10. I upgraded to 12.04 beta 1 and flickering started. I
installed 11.10 again and flickering stopped. Today I install 12.04 beta
again and then installed mainline kernel RC6 and there is still heavy
flickering/

[Bug 945006] Re: Screen flickers heavily after upgrading to 12.04 beta 1

2012-03-03 Thread Christos Sintoris
The monitor that flickers is the built-in LCD display of the laptop (HP
Elitebook 2730p).

I booted 12.04 B1 with nomodeset boot option and there was no flickering (but
otherwise wrong display resolution).
I reverted to 11.10, and the flickering stopped.
I will install 12.04 B1 from scratch, instead of upgrading, to see if the
problem re-appears

[Bug 945006] Re: Screen flickers heavily after upgrading to 12.04 beta 1

2012-03-02 Thread Christos Sintoris
Hi,

The flickering appeared only after I installed 12.04 beta 1, so I think the
BIOS is broken warning is unrelated.
Also when I connect an external monitor to the VGA port, the flickering
disappears completely. It seems to me that this is a problem of graphics
drivers.

Thanks

[Bug 915030] [NEW] Emacs23 23.3+1-1ubuntu4 and UTF-8 files - doesn't seem to work

2012-01-11 Thread Christos Kloukinas
Public bug reported:

I've been trying to edit UTF-8 files with emacs (emacs23 23.3+1-1ubuntu4) but
it doesn't seem to work.
The UTF-8 characters don't appear (I get boxes) and emacs doesn't want to save
the file in utf-8, asking me instead to choose a different format.
I can view the files with less without any problems (before I attempt to edit
them with emacs - once emacs tries to save them back they seem to be damaged).
I've also tested it with the UTF-8 sampler page found here (same results):
http://www.columbia.edu/~fdc/utf8/

Xemacs seems to be having the same problems too (xemacs21-mule
21.4.22-3.1ubuntu1).
