[Bug 974480] Re: Notification area whitelist is obsolete
@Miguel I think you miss the point: you probably aren't the customer they want. They want customers who buy into their vision, not customers who need X legacy application to run. No OS can please everyone, and it seems clear that Canonical's goals do not align with yours. I think you'll need to simply acknowledge that and move on. [Bug 974480] Re: Notification area whitelist is obsolete
I think the friction here is between Canonical, who are using Linux, GTK, et al as a platform to develop a "walled garden" type setup and those who see Ubuntu as "just another Linux distro". Yes, "walled garden" is a bit overstated being that Ubuntu remains open source, but given the limited resources that are an inherent limitation in most FOSS projects, the net result isn't too far off the mark. As Mark repeatedly mentions, OSX does things this way to good effect. I think if you want a typical Linux distro, Ubuntu is the wrong place to look. Ubuntu is developing into its own OS, complete with incompatible desktop, utilities, APIs, etc. I'm not making a value judgement, merely pointing out that people who want a typical Linux distro are pretty much guaranteed to be disappointed. I'd also say the same thing about distros such as Elementary OS. They don't aim for compatibility, rather they want to push the desktop paradigm and compatibility is a drag on such an endeavor. If you want a "Linux distro", there's plenty to choose from. If you want the "Canonical experience", whatever that may evolve to be, then stick with Ubuntu. Personally, I plan on moving to something else at some point because I seek the former (and am quite pleased with GNOME Shell these days), but I can see the futility of trying to hold back Ubuntu with legacy support. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/974480 Title: Notification area whitelist is obsolete To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/974480/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 974455] Re: Lenovo u300s 't' key sends "Hiragana-Katana"
@Tim Are you planning on returning this system for a refund? If you've sent it in that many times, you should be able to get a refund. I'm sending mine in for "repair" mostly so that I can create a record of repair attempts in order to force a refund. I'm curious if anyone else has tried to return theirs and what obstacles they had to overcome. My impression of this system is that it's lacking in features and quality for a so-called premium laptop. We also have a Samsung Series 9 (NP900X3B) and a Dell XPS 13. Both are superior machines compared to the U300s, and they cost significantly less as well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/974455 Title: Lenovo u300s 't' key sends "Hiragana-Katana" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/974455/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 974455] Re: Lenovo u300s 't' key sends "Hiragana-Katana"
Mine started doing this last night (delete key performs some other function) after resuming from suspend. I'm running their latest BIOS (checked before I installed Ubuntu) on an i7. It worked fine for two weeks prior to this. One thing about this keyboard is that the Fn keys can be remapped from the BIOS (so you either get Fn keys by default or control keys). I tried toggling this value but it had no effect. Still, I suspect the issue may be related to this feature.
[Bug 978807] Re: 'Cypress Trackpad' incorrectly detected as 'ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse' in 'Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook''
The issue I'm seeing is that tap-to-click is *always* enabled for the two button regions at the bottom of the touchpad. It turns off for the touchpad in general, but the button areas themselves cannot have this disabled. It took me a while to figure out that this was the cause of seemingly random clicks and accidental double-clicks when physically depressing the pad. Note, I'm using a Lenovo U300s, not the Dell XPS, so this may be isolated to this machine. Aside from this issue, the touchpad driver seems to work acceptably on the U300s, so thanks! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/978807 Title: 'Cypress Trackpad' incorrectly detected as 'ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse' in 'Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook'' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/978807/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 528467] Re: [i855] GPU hung (drm i915 intel) on Lucid Lynx
I installed the legacy driver mentioned in #36 last night and not only did it appear to solve my issue, I don't really notice any performance degradation (no games, medium-high compiz settings). Thanks. -- [i855] GPU hung (drm i915 intel) on Lucid Lynx https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528467 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 557767] [NEW] syslog.conf has incorrect setting
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 9.10. /etc/syslog.conf has an incorrect line: auth, authpriv.* -/var/logauth.log should be auth, authpriv.* -/var/log/auth.log This was discovered in a fresh install from an OpenVZ template. This may or may not exist in standard Ubuntu 9.10. If it doesn't, please close. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- syslog.conf has incorrect setting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/557767 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
