[Bug 1875062] Re: [20.04] Keyboard layout not enabled immediately during installation when typing username/password

2020-05-14 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
I faced the same problem while installing Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04.

No VM here. And French for locale.

It's OK if I first « try without installing » in my language, then later launch
the installer.
In this scenario, no problem with keyboard at the username/password stage, it
remains french/azerty.

It's not OK when I go straight to « install ». Ubiquity stops using
french/azerty keyboard at username/password stage.
And once there, there is no way to go back or abort safely.

By chance rough power off had no dramatic consequence.

Reproducible any time. And also with UbuntuBudgie ( and I guess any
flavor using Ubiquity ).

[Bug 1872197] Re: Trash-applet : when emptying, follows link when link and source are on different partitions

2020-04-16 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
Testing with budgie-trash-applet 0.10.1-0ubuntu4 from eoan-proposed.

Have created folders containing files on two different partitions and links to
these folders ( ctrl+M in Nemo ).
⋅ a link on partition A to a folder in partition B
⋅ a link on partition B to a folder in partition A

→ deleting the links through trash-applet only deletes the links and not
the source files, so this is fixed.

( what remains, unability to restore through trash-applet if file was
not on the same partition as /home/$USER which is another story )

see https://discourse.ubuntubudgie.org/t/trash-applet-when-emptying-
follow-links/3330/26?u=coeur-noir and
https://discourse.ubuntubudgie.org/t/trash-applet-when-emptying-follow-

[Bug 1872197] [NEW] Trash-applet : when emptying, follows link when link and source are on different partitions

2020-04-11 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

See https://discourse.ubuntubudgie.org/t/trash-applet-when-emptying-
follow-links/3330 for reference.

hi,

confirmation needed.

I suspect trash applet to delete not only symlink but also source file
or folder to that link.

create a symlink to a folder containing many things.

Put it in trash.

Use trash-applet to empty trash → original folder and its content are
deleted.

Create another symlink.

Put it in trash.

Use Nemo to empty trash → only link is deleted, and not original source.

Does anyone confirm ? If so, that sounds like a bug as I don’t expect
source to be deleted when deleting a link.

If the snap chromium is connected to removable-media, the shortcut is
correctly placed in ~/Desktop.

But this shortcut does not work, opens chromium on a blank page.

Tested today on UBudgie 19.10 and chromium-snap 80.0.3987.162 (Build
officiel) snap (64 bits).

[Bug 1870575] [NEW] App's name are truncated in full screen grid view

2020-04-03 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Ubuntu 20.04, default.

In the global app-menu ( full screen grid view ) app'names are
truncated, only displayed on one line.

There is enough room to display them on two or three lines under each
icon.

Maybe it's not a big readability concern in English but it is in French
and I guess in German and other languages as many app's start with same
first words, i.e. Gestionnaire de… / Éditeur de… / Libre Office…

[Bug 1869597] [NEW] FF74.0 in UBudgie 19.10 : LIBDBUSMENU-GTK-CRITICAL dbusmenu_menuitem_property_set_shortcut: assertion 'gtk_accelerator_valid(key, modifier)' failed

2020-03-29 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Hi,

on a freshly installed Ubuntu Budgie 19.10, I've noticed Firefox is kind of
slow at start :
⋅ I can launch Firefox but it’s unresponsive for a moment ( no blinking cursor
anywhere )
⋅ then cursor eventually appears in address bar but blinking slowly and not
usable,
⋅ still, clicking anywhere has no effect, or effect delayed much later,
⋅ a moment later, cursor blinks at its usual pace and Firefox becomes
responsive as expected.
The whole process takes 30 seconds to 1 minute and Firefox runs rather ok later
on with some slow moments though ( sometimes tabs are slow to react, or any
interactions with buttons in FF menu ).

Same behavior in safe-mode ( without any FF addons )

Same without any Budgie applets regarding app-menu ( such as pixel-saver
or global-menu applets ).

[Bug 813775] Re: LIBDBUSMENU-GTK-CRITICAL **: dbusmenu_menuitem_property_set_shortcut: assertion `gtk_accelerator_valid(key, modifier)' failed

2020-03-29 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
Hello,

I have this message on Ubuntu Budgie 19.10 freshky installed + FF74.0

Same if launched in safe mode with no addons.

Same if I don't use any Budgie applets regarding app-menus ( ie. pixel-
saver or global-menu )

See https://discourse.ubuntubudgie.org/t/firefox-in-19-10-is-kind-of-
slow-to-start/3265

as this bug seems to slow down Firefox starting + tabs management.

[Bug 1866865] Re: Keymap choice forgotten during installation

2020-03-22 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
I had same issue with « regular » Ubuntu 18.04 installer.

No need for dvorak or being in NY ;-)

If you launch a usb-live-session and go straight to installation,
problem is reproducible.

If you first try-in-live and later then install, there is no keymap
problem.

[Bug 1866722] [NEW] Packaging type should appear in app's name

2020-03-09 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Hi,

for years now, Ubuntu Software show snap in priority.
Hence for a given app' it appears many times in the list.

Packaging type should be part of the app' name in the list
to help users know where they're going.

Thunderbird [ deb ]
Thunderbird [ snap ]
( and why not ? )
Thunderbird [ flatpak ]
Thunderbird [ appimage ]

Another way to deal with this would be
⋅ to have only one entry by app'name
⋅ and have some clear labels for available packaging type

Thunderbird

app' description

Available as :

[ deb | snap | flatpak | appimage | from source | whatever ]

here tabbed suggestions and info matching selected
packaging type just above and eventually options like
sandboxing, connect or plug interfaces, authorizations
when relevant.

[ install button ]

Nowadays users may not be conscious of « how » they install
an app, leading to bitter surprises ( slowness, no access
to removable medias, used disk space ) because all users
don't have SSD nor thousands Gb free disk space.

All LTS Ubuntu are concerned by this bug : Software-center
should show benefits, use-case, requirements and limits for
each available packaging type, it should be more « teaching »
instead of confusing.

It's still 60.9.0 there.

Just a reminder.

Here is an Unity session on 18.04. Base installation is UBudgie on which
I later add Unity packages.

It's a DE that has some components in common with Gnome.

And since Kikito seems to have the same problem of date-time
localization also in a default gnome session, who reports to ?

Ok why not.

But still "problem" is not totally solved : there are maybe missing size
icons in Ubuntu 16.04 / nautilus 3.14.3

[Bug 1808243] [NEW] 16.04 : on each Firefox update, language pack and search engines don't keep my preferences

2018-12-12 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Hi,

today update manager brought a new version of Firefox, 64.

1. FR language pack is kind of lost in the process :
https://ibb.co/28bbG9t
« remove » that one and on next launch FF is in french again.

2. Google comes back as default search engine - instead of previously
Qwant

3. Amazon comes back in the list of search engines, although I had
previously removed it months ago

4. My prefered order of search engines get lost.

As far as I can remember I had the same « jokes » when updating FF from 62 to 63

[Bug 545778] Re: xul-ext-lightning is only available in English

2018-10-26 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
So, in other words, does it mean for non-english Ubuntu users that
Lightning from canonical's repo will be broken forever ?

The workaround in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/545778/comments/45
relies on official package and so far so good works nicely and also
plays nice with provider for google agenda.

But.

What will happen on next official TB+Lightning release ?

Since Lighting is no longer seen as a separate extension and therefore
no longer available on ATN, I can't see a way for « auto-updating »
there.

The search engines that always come back are located in :

/usr/lib/firefox/distribution/searchplugins/locale/

sub-folders fr and en-*

They are

- amazon.fr|com ( yes, both )
- duckduckgo.fr
- google.fr

I've got the same behavior under 16.04

« Reinstalling the Hunspell libraries did not solve the issue »
→ go to add-ons Mozilla webpage to re-add your dictionaries ?

I only had to take care once regarding dictionary and language pack to
fix that part of issue.

Whereas whatever I try about search engines list is always « reset » and
reordered to a default state I don't like at each re-launch.

2018-09-10 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Ubuntu 18.04 here, language system is french FR.

When FF upgrades to 62, two problems occur :

1. french dictionnary and french language pack are « lost » in the
upgrade. Need to reinstall both.

2. Some search engines come back at each re-launch ( google, amazon )
and search engines list order is also lost at each relaunch.

Affects many users :

( are there bots here ? )

Issue is about app-store not being clear nor helpful enough.

One may end with confined app without knowing how to tailor it to
his•her needs.

[Bug 1789943] Re: Ubuntu Software only shows snap app's without any explanations or advices

2018-08-31 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
Hello Olivier,

My « issue » here really is not about snap.

But about software center that do not clearly show when app is a snap
and therefore let people install them without pointing to a 3-4 steps
pieces of advice about how correctly setting a snap.

Nowadays end-users learn they installed a snap by a very wrong way :
because their favourite app no longer works as expected. Most of the
time it's just wrong settings about authorisations and confinement.

So I really think some highlight and warning in software store would
ensure people install snap in a more cautious, conscient and efficient
way and would avoid most disappointments.

So no opinion here but an improvement wish for software stores.

Now a question : is it normal I no longer see regular legacy packages in
Ubuntu-gnome-software ?
Only snap ?

[Bug 1790021] [NEW] Apport warns about perl crashes …many times a day

2018-08-30 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Ubuntu 18.04, I noticed this on Ubuntu-Budgie and Xubuntu ( different
machines / or partitions ) as far I can tell I did not notice it yet on
default-ubuntu :

apport is triggered many times a day because of /usr/bin/perl crashes

I can't see a pattern to trigger that myself.

I don't use myself directly perl…

…I hit continue and presumably sent the bug report.

Attached an example screenshot from Budgie.

[Bug 1789943] Re: Ubuntu Software only show snap app's wiithout any explanations or advices

2018-08-30 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
** Description changed:

  Hi,

for a moment now, I noticed on Ubuntu 16.04 and 18.04 that Ubuntu
  Software only show snap app's.

Problem : there is no easy to read « label » or « warning » regarding
snap, and how they can be « configured ».

Consequence : many users and not only beginners ask help on forums
because their FireFox or Gimp can't access such folder, such partition,
such usb key, because they can't find config' files in usual place,
because such app launches slowly, other looks out of place, other is not
localized in their language, and so on…

  What I may expect :
  - enable / disable snap listing,
  - when snap app shown : the word snap bold in its name or a label or a flashy
header that leads to advices about how to correctly set and use snap,
- - by default, disable snap in LTS version.
+ - by default, disable snap in LTS version ( where apt/deb and official
repositories sound careful ),
+ - or give priority to legacy packaging and show snap only when nothing else
available for such app.
+
+ I consider this as a bug because it gets many users « lost » with a not
+ so good experience with common and often already known and loved
+ softwares.
+
+ I know snap keeps improving but they may not provide the same reliable
+ and predictable experience as « legacy » packaging - hence the LTS note.

[Bug 1789019] [NEW] update-manager asks for installing updates but shows no list of update, just an empty box…

2018-08-25 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Hi,

seen on 16.04 ( unity ) and 18.04 ( default DE ), affecting many users
and not systematic :

sometimes update-manager asks for installing updates but does not show
any list of available updates.

At the very same moment, commands sudo apt update or sudo apt list
--upgradable work as expected.

for reference : https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=2029394 (

For last example shown in attached picture, the ( almost ) exact same
list of updates appeared correctly in UbuntuBudgie's update-manager… (

@kikito you're not under Unity neither under Bionic 18.04 ;-)

But it seems your clock is also à l'Anglaise…

Thank you Khurshid Alam that's exactly what I was looking for !

That does not fix the default clock non-matching the locale clock
settings but it allows to have a customized clock.

[Bug 1787297] [NEW] Clock : incorrect date format in FR in Unity panel …bionic.

2018-08-15 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Here is Ubuntu 18.04 with Unity session ( I know… )

System language and regional settings are set to French.

In regional setting the date reads

day number month year hour minute…

which is correct for French.

But the clock in the Unity panel reads

day month number year hour minute…

which looks more English than French order.

Any config file I might edit to make my clock « more French » ?

[Bug 1775999] Re: Cannot set vino preferences in Lubuntu 18.04

2018-06-23 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
Xubuntu 18.04 :

utilisateur@ordinateur:~$ vino-preferences
vino-preferences : commande introuvable

Without that, how to enable desktop sharing, how to set a vnc password ?

I'm trying x11vnc but its thousands options are not easy to deal with.

And I just discovered Tigervnc is now available in Ubuntu-repository but
am not sure how to make it autostart with session in my quite simple
user-case…

Vino was rather simple and efficient for my little usage.

[Bug 1759140] Re: Dolphin does not apply UMASK

2018-04-12 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
This inability to easily set umask is not specific to Kubuntu or
Dolphin.

It happens since at least 17.04 probably related to use of systemd.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1685754
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=780622

Before 17.04 just setting your favorite umask in /etc/login.defs did the
job once and for all.

You can of course use pam_umask(8) on Ubuntu as well if you wish.

→ no longer works « globally » since 17.04, hence this dicussion.

→ before 17.04 just setting your favorite umask in /etc/login.defs did

And → https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=780622#c49 → in fedora
we're going to start adding pam_umask to the default pam configuration
so admins can edit /etc/login.defs

Does it mean Ubuntu 18.04 may benefit from it - as an LTS release, it
should.

[Bug 1760144] [NEW] Wrong size of icon, if launcher put on desktop

2018-03-30 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Hi,

as off Firefox 59, if a launcher is put on desktop, its icon size is too
large.

The culprit may be a missing icons folder ?

Testing on a liveUSB of Ubuntu 16.04.1 here I get :
https://postimg.org/image/6t98217zt/
left window is the liveUSB, right window is my actual 16.04 installation.

Right after upgrading FF to newer version, I get :
https://postimg.org/image/cu6wz42bt/
left window is still the liveUSB.
« icons » folder disappeared while upgrading FF
and then instantly icon get much larger on desktop.

It's not unity related : see
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1446262 or https://ubuntu-
mate.community/t/firefox-v59-has-a-ridiculously-large-static-desktop-
icon/16205/3 or https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=2023636

The workarounds provided by those topics are not reliable fixes.
