[Bug 92265] Re: DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive is ignored

2013-07-07 Thread Colin Dean
I just encountered this today.

DEBIAN_FRONTEND='noninteractive' apt-get -o Dpkg::Options::='--force-
confnew' -y -q install mysql-server

should install mysql-server without any prompting. It still prompts.

[Bug 92265] Re: DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive is ignored

2013-07-07 Thread Colin Dean
I figured it out. I was using sudo and the sudo was after the envvar
set, so it wasn't carried into the command.

sudo DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get -o Dpkg::Options::='--force-
confdef' -o Dpkg::Options::='--force-confold'  -f -q -y install mysql-
server

I edited ~/.config/banshee-1/addin-db-001/config.xml and changed the

I'd like to help, but is there a way to flush my current settings to a

Also, I could have sworn I posted the output of that command. Anywhere,
here it is as of right now. I just updated everything today.

[Bug 673080] [NEW] Allowed mirrors missing third party mirrors

archive.canonical.com and extras.ubuntu.com are missing from the allowed
domains. I think these can be permitted since they are officially
sanctioned by Canonical.

It would also be nice to have ppa.launchpad.net in there, but perhaps
commented out.

[Bug 577070] [NEW] Blanking screensaver doesn't activate until mouse is moved

2010-05-07 Thread Colin Dean
Public bug reported:

I have the screensaver set to go blank and lock the screen after X
minutes. After X minutes have past, the screen does not go blank and
activity on the desktop is still displayed. However, when I move the
mouse, it DOES blank and prompts for login information.

I'm dual-headed, using the laptop's LCD and an external monitor on the
Intel 945 GM chipset.

[Bug 577070] Re: Blanking screensaver doesn't activate until mouse is moved

I noticed today that the screensaver does eventually go black. If I get
a chance, I'll set the time to something really short and try to
reproduce several times.

[Bug 366304] Re: py_compilefiles shows error during byte-compiling files on setting up installed package

2009-11-30 Thread Colin Dean
I'm still seeing this in Jaunty with 0.6.11ubuntu7.

Should I try to install 0.6.11ubuntu9 from Karmic, or could this fix
make its way into backports/updates for Jaunty? It's blocking updates of
python-pexpect, python-smartpm, landscape-common, gwibber, virtualbox-
ose, virtualbox-ose-qt for me.

[Bug 366304] Re: py_compilefiles shows error during byte-compiling files on setting up installed package

2009-11-30 Thread Colin Dean
I tried the patch at
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid/+source/python2.6/+bug/354228/comments/30
but I'm still getting errors.

These errors seem to be syntax errors while compiling gwibber and
virtualbox-ose-qt. Perhaps Python3 is being used to compile these when
they should be compiled with Python2?

[Bug 460711] Re: Gwibber does not show in Ubuntu Software Center in search for twitter or identi.ca

Looks like perhaps a recent package update added it, or I'm losing my
mind.

It shows up for identi.ca now, too. That's the one that I'm sure was
missing, so it's probably the former of the above cases.

[Bug 460711] [NEW] Gwibber does not show in Ubuntu Software Center in search for twitter or identi.ca

2009-10-25 Thread Colin Dean
Public bug reported:

Fresh installation of Ubuntu Karmic RC. Fire up the Ubuntu Software
Center and search for twitter or identi.ca. Gwibber is not in the
result set, but many other clients are. A search for microblog yields
it, though.

This likely needs to be fixed in the debian package.

if there the Jaunty version of gtk+ or something available in Karmic. I
tried out the official binary on Karmic and it was fine.

[Bug 243777] Re: update manager side-by-side compare should show diff in a monospaced font

2009-08-21 Thread Colin Dean
It seems to me that when I upgraded one of my machines to Jaunty from
Intrepid, instead of being presented with a side-by-side diff, I instead
was given a standard unified diff. While probably not as easy for the
lay person to read as a side by side, the unified diff beats the crap
that was there previously.

I guess I'll verify this when I upgrade to Karmic.

[Bug 99965] Re: [needs-packaging] celtx - all-in-one video and media pre-production suite

2009-08-12 Thread Colin Dean
Here's my first attempt at making a package from source. The newest
version of the source available is 2.0.1. I've put in request that the
source for 2.0.2 be released (they're more than a month late posting
it).

This is a BINARY package compiled for amd64.

I'll have a i386 version when I finish figuring out how to build debian
source packages.

Right now, the dependencies are the same as Firefox, even though only
libc6 is specified as a dependency.

A SOURCE PACKAGE WILL COME WHEN I GET IT BUILT. Please just test this
package so I know that my compile worked.

Thanks for trying out, Thom. Now that I know that the little build
system I set up works (I couldn't get dh_make to work acceptably with
their package), I can proceed trying to build the source package I
planned on building.

Chris, thanks for a reminder of the policy. I am aware of the need for a
source package, but wanted to make /a/ package first before putzing with
celtx's source. I know much more now about compilation and packaging
than I did the last time I tried to compile celtx, so hopefully it will
go much more smoothly.

[Bug 99965] Re: [needs-packaging] celtx - all-in-one video and media pre-production suite

2009-07-30 Thread Colin Dean
I've completed an initial attempt at the package.

Please note that this version of the package was NOT compiled on Ubuntu!
It's the stock English package from Celtx's web site with sufficient
structure and files to make a Debian package.

I may try to recompile it myself at a later date, but there are no
guarantees that I'll get around to doing it before the package freeze--
August is booked solid for me.

Please test the package and email me at the maintainer's address.

Known Improvements to be Made
* The package is not yet signed--I've not figured out how to do that just quite
yet.
* Celtx is built on Mozilla, but I'm not sure how much of it can be easily
separated, thus perhaps making celtx depend on xulrunner or the like.
* There are no dependencies other than libc6 configured. I'm not sure what all
is needed. AFAICT, all of the required libraries are packaged in it, so that's
good enough for now.
* It really should be separate i386 and amd64 packages, but I'll deal with that
later.

According to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KarmicReleaseSchedule, Feature
Freeze is 27 August.

I'll make every effort to get the package made this week.

IIRC, when I first tried, I couldn't get it to compile (it's been ~two
years since I tried before running into life). I may end up packaging
the binaries just to have a package, then figure out the source packages
later.

It's on my TODO list by 5 pm on Friday.

I just tried it on Intrepid amd64, and the behavior still exists. I

so.

Remember, the trick is to go to Amazon.com, go to an item page, Select

how it renders in Firefox, not what is actually on the clipboard at the
time its contents are pasted into the Pidgin window.

Indeed. I noted that here:

IANAL, but it seems that the CePL is pretty much the standard MPL with

[Bug 161032] Re: Crash when pasting this text into buddy chat

2008-08-24 Thread Colin Dean
output of apt-cache policy pidgin:

pidgin:
  Installed: 1:2.4.3-0ubuntu1~hardy1
  Candidate: 1:2.4.3-0ubuntu1~hardy1
  Version table:
 *** 1:2.4.3-0ubuntu1~hardy1 0

500 http://ubuntu.media.mit.edu hardy-updates/main Packages
 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2 0
500 http://ubuntu.media.mit.edu hardy/main Packages

There was nothing in the stack trace. Could this because pidgin doesn't
actually segfault/crash? It goes into an infinite loop, I think, and can
only be kill'd or force-quitted by the window manager.

Here's another thing I discovered: if I Paste as plain text, it works
fine. It is regular Paste that causes this behavior.

I have a theory: does the display widget that Pidgin uses for
entry/display attempt to fetch remote images? I know it will keep a,
b, and i tags in the pasted text if it was HTML. Perhaps that's the
problem, then: that Pidgin tries to render of some of the images or
block-level HTML in the pasted text and fails while doing so.

[Bug 221005] Re: gtk_plug_set_is_child: assertion failed: (!GTK_WIDGET (plug)-parent) (Hardy, i386)

2008-08-18 Thread Colin Dean
I'm experiencing this crash with Firefox and Meebo.com on a fully up-to-
date Hardy Heron i386 system. YouTube works fine, as do the Javascript-
heavy NetVibes and Gmail, and the lightly-scripted Roundcube Webmail.

A few retries later, and some general usage on other sites, and I am
able to load Meebo.com.

As for Flash, I'm using Adobe's, version 9.0 r124.

I'm currently unable to connect to Meebo's site--it seems to have either
gone down or something in between has gone awry.

I want to bump this bug up, too. I've been searching for HOWTOs for the
past two days trying to find out how to do this after reading an article
(can't find the link in my history now) which showed a three-fold
increase in speed with Worker+FastCGI+PHP5. Folks seem to be discussing
the benefits, but retaining the solutions. I've not found any similar
solutions--they're all different, and I've not been able to get any of
them to work.

I followed this and got it to work:
http://ivan.gudangbaca.com/installing_apache2_and_php5_using_mod_fcgid.
However, my site is MUCH slower--14 seconds to load opposed to
approximately one second with Prefork/mod_php5.

[Bug 199438] Re: Musictracker doesn't work unless dcopserver is started

2008-04-28 Thread Colin Dean
I just encountered this problem, as well, but in Hardy amd64 final. One
must start pidgin at the command line with pidgin -n and quickly
disable the plugin before it attempts to contact the dcopserver.

MusicTracker should fail gracefully if it does not find dcopserver, as
those not using any KDE things are probably not going to have dcop
running.

[Bug 199438] Re: Musictracker doesn't work unless dcopserver is started

2008-04-28 Thread Colin Dean
I tracked it down to src/amarok.c. The plugin, if set to auto, polls
every now and then, and if dcopserver is not running, then the call at
line 25 eventually fails, but doesn't set any kind of state that dcop
isn't running.

C is not strong with me--I'm not sure of the best way to tell if a
process is running other than to check a pidfile or parse ps output.

[Bug 191752] [NEW] pptx not associated with OpenOffice.org Impress

2008-02-13 Thread Colin Dean
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-impress

The .pptx, and presumably the rest of the OOXML extensions, are not
associated with OpenOffice.org. I know support is sketchy, but it seems
that the association should be present if OpenOffice.org Impress is
installed.

Steps to reproduce:
1.) Obtain a pptx presentation.
2.) Double-click it (opens in archive manager).
3.) Open Impress.
4.) Open the file using File Open (proof that it works)

[Bug 161032] Re: Crash when pasting this text into buddy chat

I tried to reproduce this again using a different setup. Previously, I
was using Ubuntu i686 on a Sempron 2800+ with 512 MB of RAM. I just
tried it on a much newer machine--X2 6000+ and 8 GB of RAM on amd64--and
the bug is still there.

All I had to do was go to an Amazon item page, hit Ctrl+A to select all
of the text on the page, then copy and paste it into a Pidgin
conversation. Compiz helped me a little bit this time in realizing that
Pidgin is crashing/looping/not working when it made it black and white.

[Bug 152362] Re: icedtea-java7-plugin always crashes firefox

2008-01-13 Thread Colin Dean
I tried Matthew's method, and met with moderate success. I was able to
load the test applet on java.com, but unable to load the applet which
Facebook uses for the upload of pictures.

I also tried to use the icedtea-
java7-bin_7~b22-1.5~20071018-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb, icedtea-
java7-jre_7~b22-1.5~20071018-0ubuntu1_all.deb, icedtea-
java7-plugin_7~b22-1.5~20071018-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb, and others from the
URL given above, but met with equal success/failure (depending on your
choice of optimism/pessimism, I guess).

I know it's not icedtea, but I really want to have a working java
plugin, so I tried downloading the jdk1.7.0 JDK from
https://jdk7.dev.java.net/. I heard that there was a plugin in it, but I
looked in jre/lib/amd64 and didn't see anything that looked like it
would be a plugin.

Using the b22 packages, Brian's test works.

a few sites all at once, for example while reading Digg and opening
articles in a new tab and moving to the next Digg tab before reading the
newly-opened tab. It's almost like there can only be a few instances of
Flash running at any given time.

Any chance we'll see a fixed package for this released prior to Hardy?

[Bug 177569] Crash during phonebook import

2007-12-19 Thread Colin Dean
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bitpim

Solution for me was to install the newest version from Bitpim's SF repo
using sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture bitpim###.deb. It's a Python
program, architecture shouldn't really matter.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Bitpim and set up rfcomm
2. Open Bitpim and get Phonebook data from the Phone
3. Crash will occur when Bitpim tries to display the contacts table for merging.

** Affects: bitpim (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 161032] Re: Crash when pasting this text into buddy chat

2007-11-20 Thread Colin Dean
I could not determine anything useful. When copying the text, it appears
to go onto the clipboard as plain text. I also tried pasting into
OpenOffice Writer using both the regular paste function as well as Edit
Paste Special. Paste Special should show the formats which the content
of the clipboard can pasted, and only plain text is listed.

So this is only affecting me? I'm the only one who can crash Pidgin by
copying and pasting the contents of an Amazon.com page? Odd. I'm not
using anything that's not from the Ubuntu repos.

[Bug 99965] Re: [needs-packaging] celtx

2007-11-18 Thread Colin Dean
I'll take a stab at it if someone with stronger licensing-fu can
determine by the CePL if such a package is legal.

http://www.celtx.com/CePL/

I've not make a package before, but I've been wanting to take a stab at
it--might as well do it with a decent project.

[Bug 161032] Re: Crash when pasting this text into buddy chat

2007-11-11 Thread Colin Dean
Hmm. It worked for me. I wonder if the string length was longer because
of rich text or the like.

So, I went to an item on Amazon and (Select All + Copy)'d and pasted
into the text window (which is probably what I originally accidentally
did).

It's been sitting for about 5 minutes and has yet to paste the text or
do anything else of its own accord. I pasted the same text into Firefox,
and appeared instantaneously.

Is there a way to see what's on the clipboard without having to paste
into a writeable field?
