[Bug 254842] Re: Cannot drag a box around icons in nautilus
This problem is actually caused by interference with the keyboard and mouse. I noticed several additional problems that all seemed related, and I tried xev only to see that a "Ctrl + @" (keycode 185) was being repeatedly generated. This key combination can be created using "Shift + Ctrl + @" on the keyboard. However, this bug is not the same as one from Fiesty and Gutsy where arbitrary key presses would become stuck. They keyboard is not the source of the problem at all. I have isolated the problem to the saa7134 driver module for the Kworld PCI TV/FM tuner. I started disabling everything that I had added recently one item at a time. Removing the saa7134 module this way works: sudo rmmod saa7134_alsa sudo rmmod saa7134 (Note that the problem is not fixed by removing the alsa portion alone. Both modules must be removed.) Now the keyboard and mouse work perfectly as do the tty logins and nautilus. Note that the module was being loaded during startup with the following in the /etc/modprobe.d/options file: # Enable double-buffering so gstreamer et. al. work options quickcam compatible=2 # Default hostap to managed mode options hostap_pci iw_mode=2 options hostap_cs iw_mode=2 options saa7134 card=59 tuner=56 The TV tuner card is identified as below using lspci -v: 05:01.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7134/SAA7135HL Video Broadcast Decoder (rev 01) Subsystem: KWorld Computer Co. Ltd. Unknown device 7128 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 20 Memory at febfbc00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1K] Capabilities: I had the FM tuner partially working but had not tested the TV input or any other inputs (I recently rebuilt my computer, FYI, so I have not explored all the hardware yet.). However, the audio from the FM tuner was terribly choppy. The mixer would repeatedly mute and unmute itself while listening to the radio. I had to start gnomeradio using the following options apparently because the alsa sound interface is not quite setup right (not too familiar with this though). #!/bin/sh sox -c 2 -s -w -r 32000 -t ossdsp /dev/audio1 -t ossdsp -w -r 32000 /dev/dsp & gnomeradio --mixer=/dev/mixer:pcm wait gnomeradio t=`pidof sox`; kill $t; amixer -c 0 sset PCM 80%,80% unmute So I do not know where the true problem lies, but it is easily reproduced by loading and unloading the saa7134 module. Loading it using "modprobe -a saa7134" (with the appropriate options file) causes the repeating "Ctrl+@" character immediately, and unloading it stops it. -- Cannot drag a box around icons in nautilus https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254842 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 252030] [NEW] Evolution Fails to Display Sync'd Tasks and Memos with Palm
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1 Release:8.04 (64 bit edition) Evolution 2.22.3.1 Hot Syncing worked in 7.10 just fine. Now the Tasks and Memos don't appear in Evolution. I can see the file size change under .evolution/tasks/local/system/ for example, but the GUI never shows anything. I can also add a task in Evolution, perform a Hot Sync, and not see the task on my Palm. Yes, the Synchronize option and copy from PDA options have both been tested. Synchronizing the calendar works perfectly, but syncing the address book messes up the copy in Evolution deleting fields such as Nickname that I want preserved (Nickname is not a field on the Palm). [Bug 241063] [NEW] X Forwarding Much Slower on Hardy than Gutsy (ssh and telnet)
Public bug reported: I have machines running both recent Ubuntu releases (7.10 and 8.04), and when I ssh -X to the machines with Hardy Heron (8.04 AKA HH) GUI programs are not as responsive as they are with Gutsy Gibbon (7.10 AKA GG). Below is a summary of the behavior: Slow: ssh -X from GG to HH ssh -X from HH to HH ssh -X from HH to itself Fast: ssh -X from GG to another GG ssh -X from GG to itself ssh -X from HH to GG The behavior is that scrolling, typing, and mouse clicks are not very responsive. Running the applications tested by sitting at the machines (not through ssh) results in normal operation. The applications tested have been Matlab, gvim, and gedit, and I don't believe the problem is specific to any of those programs. All of these ssh combinations should be quite fast, but any that does a ssh to one of 3 machines running HH has a slow GUI experience. The same behavior exists when connecting using telnet (temporarily installed for testing). Also, internet speed tests show that both the GG and HH machines have very similar upload and download speeds, and all the machines are on a fast local network. And no significant background processes are running. The problem is severe enough for me to revert back to GG (7.10) on my group's server so that it is possible to edit and execute MATLAB code efficiently through a ssh connection. The connection is now as fast as expected. I have searched through Google, the Ubuntu forums, and Launchpad for duplicate bugs but have not found anything like this yet. Also, this is not the same issue where users were experiencing a slow request for a password. (I did post this issue in the forum with username cbrinegar.)
