[Bug 1491064] Re: Text editing very slow in 0.91 on files with many objects, normal in 0.48

2019-09-03 Thread Cosmin Saveanu via ubuntu-bugs
For Linux users who will have difficulties in downgrading to Inkscape 0.48, you
can install the Windows version with PlayOnLinux/Wine:
https://inkscape.org/fr/release/inkscape-0.48.5/windows/32-bit/exe/dl/
Files impossible to open with 0.92 work perfectly well with this 0.48.5 build.

[Bug 1491064] Re: Text editing very slow in 0.91 on files with many objects, normal in 0.48

2019-09-03 Thread Cosmin Saveanu via ubuntu-bugs
The only reason I cannot recommend Inkscape as a replacement for Adobe
Illustrator for scientific figures and posters is this bug, now 4 years
old. Even the solution of locking the offending objects on different
layers does not work all the time. With many objects, Inkscape (0.92.4
on Ubuntu 18.04), is unable to perform the move to a new layer.

I searched for alternatives to Inkscape and none of the ones that are
open source is able to import correctly the svg files generated from R.

The only solution I currently have is to raterize part of the plots and
use the uneditable bitmaps in Inkscape.

[Bug 1509562] Re: no icons for menu, folders, directories, files

2017-05-24 Thread Cosmin Saveanu
A solution that involves minimal hacks, but applies to individual apps
one by one is to change the XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP variable only when
launching the problematic programs.

For Kate, for example:

1. Copy the .desktop file (in Ubuntu 17.04, with XFCE, I also have KDE Plasma
installed):
> cp /usr/share/applications/org.kde.kate.desktop
> ~/.local/share/applications/org.kde.kate.desktop

2. Open the file (for example):
> cd ~/.local/share/applications/
> gedit org.kde.kate.desktop

3. Change the launch line from
Exec=kde kate -b %U
 to
Exec=env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=kde kate -b %U

4. Make the file executable (in the file properties through Thunar)

As the user launcher files have precedence over the system ones, this
works. You might try also to use "gnome" as the value of the
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP variable. I did not want to change it system-wide
becaus it is set by XFCE to "XFCE".

[Bug 303322] Re: some html messages fail to wrap properly

2016-03-31 Thread Cosmin Saveanu
I don't think this bug is specific to the Ubuntu version of Thunderbird,
as I can see it as well on MacOS X (TB 38.7). The bugzilla site could
benefit from a link to this bug as it has both an example and a
screenshot to show the problem.

[Bug 782855] Re: missing pixels (horizontal lines) in font rendering

2012-01-08 Thread Cosmin Saveanu
It is really a strange bug and probably very hard to solve since there
is no clear way to reproduce it. I had exactly the same problem (mostly
on es missing a line of pixels) but during the time needed to search
google, get to this page and log in to post a comment, the display
problem just vanished. Now everything looks normal. Happened several
times on my system.

The only thing I did previous to the display problem appearing, was to
launch DoubleCommander (a GTK2 program) and gedit (Gnome 3) at the same
time. If I do it again, no problem is apparent though...

Using Ubuntu 11.10 with Gnome Shell on a Fujitsu Amilo laptop.

[Bug 108643] Re: nautilus, media containing multiple partitions cannot be unmounted (USB connected)

2007-05-18 Thread Cosmin Saveanu
Same problem for me. I have an external USB drive with a fat and a
hfsplus partition. In addition, the hfsplus partition is mounted read-
only (I'll look if this bug was already reported).

[Bug 108643] Re: nautilus, media containing multiple partitions cannot be unmounted (USB connected)

2007-05-18 Thread Cosmin Saveanu
After 4 hours of laborious search I finally found why the hfsplus
partition was mounted read-only. Due to the bug we discuss here,
unmounting does create problems on the hfsplus partition which becomes
readable only on the next mount. Manual unmounting does not help either.

Under these conditions, I needed to install fsck.hfsplus, repair the
partition and mount it, and have to do it on every occasion I'm using
the disk. This is a major annoyance and I think that the bug importance
might be increased. Thanks.

Indeed, pressing Alt and clicking in the window works as a workaround.
It would be nice if someone could patch this.

[Bug 88530] Re: kernel floods console with connect-debounce failed

2007-04-30 Thread Cosmin Saveanu
Hi fraktalek,

It looks like switching off and then on the wifi can solve (temporarily)
the problem. It means that at the end the wifi connection is on, I'm
sorry I was not very clear in my previous post. Please take a look at
your dmesg output before and after doing the switching on and off for
the wifi. I also use wifi for my Internet connection.

[Bug 88530] Re: kernel floods console with connect-debounce failed

2007-04-20 Thread Cosmin Saveanu
I can confirm this annoying error message that appeared on my Fujitsu-
Siemens Amilo Si1520 after upgrading to Feisty and the 2.6.20-15 kernel.
I hope someone will find a solution. On an ArchLinux wiki a workaround
is indicated (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fujitsu-
Siemens_Amilo_Pro_V3205):

A hub error message is printed repeatedly:

hub 1-0:1.0: connect-debounce failed, port 6 disabled

A workaround is to disable the laptop's wi-fi device in BIOS.

I have no idea how one can disable the wi-fi in BIOS and if, in that case, one
can start it after the boot (?). However I observed that the messages stopped
after switching off and on the wi-fi button. Thank you, Cosmin

the dmesg output before and after siwtching on-off the bluetooth/wi-fi
