2007-08-29 Thread CrawfordBest
Hmm ... 2000 individual stocks ? I guess just typing in the symbols
could take a while !

I thought stalker just added the latest date if you selected Quote.
History allows you to specify dates but I think that overwrites what you
already have. Does Auto History just append to what you already have ?

The safest way is to go to the hidden qtstalker directory and copy the
files under /data0/data/Stocks/Yahoo/US (or wherever you have them) to
another location. Then you can try out the options I just mentioned
without overwriting your only data. I have sometimes had to fetch data
from scratch, say on the DJIA back to 1928 plus lots of similar indexes,
and I just went away while it did its thing. The time was manageable.

Let me know if this helps.

I have found Very Little documentation out there and so had to figure
out all this myself.

2007-08-29 Thread CrawfordBest
They are hidden files, which you can tell because of the dot (.) after
the slash (/).

You have to click on /Places/HomeFolder/View/Show Hidden Files and then
you will see them and can remove them.

[Bug 80470] Re: Qtstalker exits immediately when I try to display a graph.

2007-06-03 Thread CrawfordBest
FIXED !

I had previously used Synaptic to remove qtstalker but it apparently
does not do a complete job of removing it. I did this several times
with no luck.

I just now removed qtstalker's rc and rc lock files from the hidden qt
directory and then removed the hidden qtstalker directory. All these
are under the home directory. Then I reinstalled qtstalker and it works
just fine.

The directory I removed is:

~/.qtstalker

The two files I removed are:

~/.qt/qtstalkerrc

~/.qt/qtstalkerrc.lock

Actually, I not not completely certain about the last two files because
they are gone and now there are 3 such files, from the latest ubuntu
version of qtstalker. I think they are right though and the correct
files to remove should be obvious because there are fewer than 10 files
in that directory.

I don't know why synaptic doesn't know about these other files but it
doesn't.

Joy!

So sane substituted the hauppage for the scanner in Xsane. Strange. It

Does this help? So it is there. I tried sane-find-scanner in the past
(6.04 ?) and don't remember that it showed up. I will try to change
permissions but I don't know why scanimage is only finding the
hauppage. I saw somewhere that the Epson V750 (aka GT9000) IS supported.

Thanks.

[Bug 80470] Re: Qtstalker exits immediately when I try to display a graph.

2007-05-26 Thread CrawfordBest
I have upgraded to ubuntu 7.04 and the latest 0.32 ubuntu2 qtstalker.
The bad date problem is fixed.

But it still crashes when i try to display a graph. I prepared a CSV
file with dates and closing prices only and it was imported with no
error messages. But stalker still exits when I try to display a graph.

When I right-click on the file ame in the left panel and then select
Edit Stock it shows the correct beginning and ending dates so I assume
the data file is correct. Also, when I go to Data in the Edit Stock
window and Search for a specific date, the data shows up.

/Tools/Data Window, however, shows nothing when I click it.

Various indicator names show up on the tabs below the chart space.

Is TA-lib missing?

Something must be!

[Bug 115726] sane and scanimage crash in Feisty but not in 6.06

2007-05-19 Thread CrawfordBest
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libsane

scanimage (root or user) gives "segmentation fault (core dumped)"

After I click Acquire Scan in Xsane it closes.

Xsane says my Scanner is Hauppage WinTV!

When I change the configuration file (?) to Epson V750 and save it it
doesn't stay but comes back as Hauppage.

I am using a firewire interface card and cord.

This setup worked in 6.06 but after I upgraded to 7.04 it didn't work
anymore.

The Core Dump part of the crash log file is so large that
OpenOfficeWriter chokes on it! Maybe the part I sent you will help.

Here is the log report for the Update Manager crash Minus the Core
Dump. The whole file is too big to send and maybe that is why you
didn't get it through Launchpad so I am sending now just the first
part. I will try to send the Core Dump separately.

The only thing that I can tell is abnormal is the bug report which
appeared on the screen giving the log file and asking for a bug report.
Everything else seemed - and still seems - completely normal.

Sorry, but I can't give you any details. I got the error report but as
far as I can tell everything worked fine. Update-Manager said that it
was through, it looked normal, I exited it normally, and things seem to
be working fine. I had hoped the log report would give you something to
go on.

You're welcome.

This one may have. The icon was on the top right of the screen.

I am almost certain that it did not. I almost never do that and not
recently.

Recently this message happens rather regularly so I wonder if it isn't a
"feature" which accompanied one of my recent upgrades! I install all of
the upgrades from Ubuntu.

2007-02-09 Thread CrawfordBest
Here are the answers based on what I have installed in Synaptic:

1. I will have to wait to see if I get another crash in the future.

2. Mozilla Plugin 0.3.6-2ubuntu2
GPL Flash Library - Mozilla Plugin 0.4.13-8ubuntu1
Adobe Flash Plugin Installer 9.0.31.0.1ubuntu1

3. J2re1.4-mozilla plugin 1.0ubuntu5

4. Under Tools/Add-ons/Extensions there is Nothing shown.
In the section on Downloads it shows that SPL extensions use
Shockwave. That's it.

Thanks.

[Bug 80470] Re: Qtstalker exits immediately when I try to display a graph.

2007-02-02 Thread CrawfordBest
My first report (with no log file attached) was for version 0.26 with
the gtk prior to version 1.2.8.1-0ubuntu.

The crashes causes and results were the same for both versions of of
Qtstalker and both versions of gtk.

When the data is downloaded from Yahoo (indexes and mutual funds) the
progress file shows many "bad dates". Most are in the future (up to
2049) and one is 2001.

try to display a graph (all the downloaded symbols are listed) qtstalker
immediately exits.

This happens in ubuntu 6.06 and also 6.10.

I didn't see a place to attach the crash log file to this report. And
when I try to open it in gedit it locks up, presumably because of the
bore dump output.

I responded to someone but don't remember whom now because I switched to
Ubuntu (Gnome) a few months ago! Sorry.

Thanks for the reply.

[Bug 67880] Ubuntu 6.10 RC LiveCD does not detect SOYO BayOne XP usb card reader

2006-10-23 Thread CrawfordBest
Public bug reported:

6.06 did not either. MEPIS 6.0 did detect it and it worked fine.

It is not listed anyplace I have tried including cat /proc/... or lsusb
or lspci.. etc., under 6.06

I can transfer my digital camera photos via the usb cable but not
through this card reader.

[Bug 67878] Ubuntu 6.10 RC LiveCD works on 2nd monitor but not first

2006-10-23 Thread CrawfordBest
Public bug reported:

I have 2 SamsungSyncmaster 191 flat panel LCD monitors and an eVGA
7600GS graphics card. One monitor is connected as analog (thus monitor
1) and the other as digital. The digital conection works perfectly but
the analog one flashes total garbage on the screen.

This is when used as a liveCD. I did not install the RC.

6.06 works just fine with the two monitors. If I remember correctly the
original install showed nothing on one monitor. I now have them set up
with Twinview.
