[Bug 1742302] Re: Kernel 4.13.0-25 broke nvidia driver
I confirm this with 4.13.0-26. Does not occur after reversion to 4.10.0-42 or earlier kernels. I have not tested the new 390 series driver. 387.26 + 4.10.0-42 combination works. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1742302 Title: Kernel 4.13.0-25 broke nvidia driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1742302/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mtop package mtop 0.6.6-1.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1 .. BUG - it tries during installation to connect to the mysql server on the local machine. This behavior is different to that suggested by the package / its deps. NOTE: i do not have the mysql server installed! (the full thing.. i only have the core). Suggestion re fix.can the package be altered to either depend on mysql-server OR not attempt to connect to a server on the local machine during installation. [Bug 342990] Re: stopping the dbus daemon logs user out and disabled my keyboard and mouse.
Ok let me make it more clear. The bug isn't that stopping dbus logs a desktop user out. The bug is that the desktop computer is now USELESS. You have to reboot it (if sshing isn't an option). This is a regression from ubuntu 8.10. It is a real bug. I can stop hal on my debian lenny system (no logout), not sure about 8.10 atm , will check later. Point is the system can still run without dbus. If dbus is that important then if dbus ever stops running, it should be relaunched no ? Isn't that a real fix ? if dbus ever stops running then start it up again... -- stopping the dbus daemon logs user out and disabled my keyboard and mouse. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/342990 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 342990] Re: stopping the dbus daemon logs user out and disabled my keyboard and mouse.
So now the stability of _ANY_ ubuntu system (desktop) is dependant on the kernel and dbus ? I consider this is a _REAL_ bug. I may as well use windows if i want a system that is made so that when _ONE_ semi-important thing crashes the whole system goes. I know other distros don't have this problem. [Bug 342990] [NEW] stopping the dbus daemon logs user out and disabled my keyboard and mouse.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dbus Stopping the dbus daemon logs user out and disabled my keyboard and mouse. This is in ubuntu jaunty, alpha5. I am not sure if this has been fixed or looked into for alpha6. However, reliance on _one_ system daemon for continued operation of the entire system is not a good idea, when that daemon is not critical. Arguing that dbus isn't ever meant to be stopped isn't a solution. Dbus like other computer software is likely to have bugs, some of these might result in dbus being terminated. If you wish to test this, simply login (to gnome), and at a terminal (i used the gnome-terminal) go sudo /etc/init.d/dbus stop. ** Affects: dbus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- stopping the dbus daemon logs user out and disabled my keyboard and mouse. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/342990 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi i recommend you check the system temperature. The laptop might be overheating and then automatically shutting down. Additionally (to the below), you might want to try disabling / turning off cpu frequency scaling. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information. Please include the following additional information, if you have not already done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team: 1. Please include the output of the command uname -a in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture. 2. Please run the command dmesg dmesg.log after a fresh boot and attach the resulting file dmesg.log to this bug report. 3. Please run the command sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log and attach the resulting file lspci-vvnn.log to this bug report. [Bug 305723] Re: MTU in 8.10 set to 576/ ignores override/ does not work with a lot of routers
The linux kernel will change the mtu depending on network conditions. ubuntu 8.10 is not picking such a low mtu ... it should be 1500. I have never seen an mtu of 576 being picked. Thank you. 3. [Bug 303352] Re: Wireless will not work on HP Pavillion dv6915nr with Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)
You might need to as per the release notes for ubuntu 8.10, Atheros ath5k wireless driver not enabled by default The version of the ath5k driver for Atheros wireless devices included in Linux 2.6.27 interferes with the use of the madwifi driver for some wireless devices and as a result has been disabled by default. Many Atheros chipsets will work correctly with the madwifi driver, but some newer chipsets may not, and the madwifi driver may not work with WPA authentication. If you have an Atheros device that does not work with madwifi, you will want to install the linux-backports-modules-intrepid- generic package, which includes an updated version of the ath5k driver.
