[Bug 365317] Re: Nautilus hangs on thumbnail display

[Bug 365317] [NEW] Nautilus hangs on thumbnail display
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus On a system with a large number of documents, that cause more than 14000 thumbnails to be generated, previously problem free directories can no longer be viewed and part of nautilus hangs when displaying file list with thumbnails, but you can still hit stop so it is just the file listing and thumbnail display function that hangs. Change to a different user and there is no problem, but it is not a perms issue. You can fix the problem by rm ~/.thumbnails/normal/* But I think it will return once the thumbnail collection becomes large again. Re: [Bug 149047] Re: Various icons don't have 48x48 nor scalable version
If there are vector (SVG) and bitmap versions of an icon available then the vector version should be selected, but I don t know what rule is used to ensure this. The other issue is that the vector data needs to be scaled and rasterised for display at the correct size, so things could be going wrong in more than one place. My *guess* is that the wrong version is being selected, however I don t have enough knowledge of the inner workings of gnome to be sure. Re: [Bug 149047] Re: Various icons don't have 48x48 nor scalable version
Another quick fix is to have Gnome Do use the best icon it can find and not use a full set from any given theme. i.e. Look for the svg file in the chosen theme, but if it can't find one then look for a svg icon file from another. Re: [Bug 149047] Re: Various icons don't have 48x48 nor scalable version
What about running them through autotrace until they can be redrawn, it does have SVG output. There is also a special interpolation method that works better on game sprites and icons, it may be used in mame or one of the other game emulator projects, but I can recall a more precice reference for you at the moment. Re: [Bug 354018] Re: Lack of contrast in scrollbar results in poor usability
I agree with Fred but I would also like to point out that perceived contrast is relative because each user/viewing conditions scenario is unique. Absolute contrast is not hard to define look at the positions of the two colours in a colour sphere with the centre being mid grey. The contrast is the length of the line between the colours, across the colour space. If you take this definition of contrast you can then define high, average and low contrast ranges. Once you have your ranges defined you can use code to check a theme and produce variants that fall into different ranges. You just move the colour along the vector defined by their original positions in the colour space. The benefit of this system is that the artist gets to judge their design by aesthetic rules but the theme is also parametric and can be morphed to fit different scenarios.
