[Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)

2010-08-02 Thread Dan Munckton
Hi Chris. Thanks. Unfortunately I can confirm that these new drivers
worsen the situation on my config (see bug #578167) and gave me
consistent blank screen on 2 subsequent reboots. With current official
Lucid drivers I can get to the desktop on boot but get blanks whenever
gdm is restarted for any reason. Thanks for your help.

Screen goes blank most (but not all) of the time when logging in just

And there are details of an error in /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915-error-

[Bug 578167] [NEW] [intel 845G] Blank screen problem on login, logout, power savings mode, tty switch etc

2010-05-10 Thread Dan Munckton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Setup:

Dell Inspiron 1100 Laptop
Card: Intel 845G
Driver: intel / i915
OS: Fresh install of Lucid 10.04

Screen goes blank most (but not all) of the time when logging in just

seems to get itself into some sort of crazy loop ...

  1) Blank screen
  2) VT with last 2 syslog entries
  3) Black screen with a panel of vertical black and white lines top center

This cycle can be broken by shutting down the gdm service. Noticeable
messages in the Xorg logs when this is happening are:

And there are details of an error in /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915-error-

Yes. He won't do a new release unless he has a compelling reason to do
so. Although there's probably other stuff he still needs to fix, you

[Bug 289905] Re: [PS3 BOOTLOADER] Bluetooth keyboards not supported by kboot

2009-04-06 Thread Dan Munckton
THIS IS NOT A DUPLICATE OF #318465, HOW MORE CLEAR CAN I MAKE IT? This
is about the bootloader not the running system. The bootloader has it's
own separately compiled kernel. This needs to be investigated
separately, it will not be fixed when #318465 is fixed.

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 318465
Logitech MX5000 doesn't connect via bluetooth under ubuntu

** Description changed:

+ DO NOT MARK AS A DUPLICATE
+
**NOTE**: If you're looking at this bug because your wireless bluetooth
keyboard isn't usable with your PS3, please see bug 292042 instead.

using a bluetooth keyboard to start or install means that you are stuck
till you to a hard reset or find a usb keyboard to install with or type
in commands at the kboot screen.. with the ps/3 using a bluetooth
keyboard by default this can really be an issue for those with out
access to or having a usb keyboard to start up or even install ubuntu,
let alone get back to the game os.

[Bug 352721] [NEW] newlib-spu stopped providing crt1.o (cause of powerpc FTBFS)

2009-03-31 Thread Dan Munckton
Public bug reported:

Somewhere in the last 3 uploads of newlib, it stopped providing the file
crt1.o in the newlib-spu package on PPC.

This is now causing recursive build failure. The configure script is
failing because when gcc-spu is tested it fails with the message ...

/usr/bin/spu-ld: crt1.o: No such file: No such file or directory

Adding the old newlib-spu package as a build-dep in 1.17.0-0ubuntu2 made
the configure script work again, but because crt1.o didn't get built
this workaround no longer works.

Full config.log file attached.

[Bug 289982] Re: PS3: NetworkManager cannot connect to WPA/WPA2 wireless networks

2009-02-23 Thread Dan Munckton
Ok I had a break through today, similar to what you describe Tim - it
seems I can get the PS3 to connect to my WPA wifi network, but only by
removing the ethernet cable.

So I'm tempted to say this bug is closed now, and the problem we have
left is probably bug 309457.

[Bug 289977] Re: PS3: NetworkManager doesn't list available wireless networks even though "iwlist wlan0 scan" does

2009-02-23 Thread Dan Munckton
I can thankfully say this issue is solved in Jaunty. The 2.6.28 kernel
includes the necessary changes in the ps3_gelic_wireless driver to
support the WEXT interface properly. So NetworkManager now shows the
wireless scan list. Closing.

[Bug 137312] Re: gdb on ppc often remains stuck in call___do_global_ctors_aux

2009-02-22 Thread Dan Munckton
gdb version: 6.8-3ubuntu2

I believe this problem has reoccurred in Jaunty. Am trying to debug
usplash on PS3/ppc64 and I'm continually running into

(gdb) next
0x0ff9b830 in call___do_global_ctors_aux () from /lib/libusplash.so.0
Current language: auto; currently asm
(gdb) next
Single stepping until exit from function call___do_global_ctors_aux,
which has no line number information.
0xf7fe3154 in ?? () from /lib/ld.so.1

[Bug 331534] [NEW] "force-complain" directory breaks aa-genprof

2009-02-19 Thread Dan Munckton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apparmor

Running aa-genprof on Hardy outputs the following:

$ sudo aa-genprof /usr/sbin/apache2

Include file force-complain/usr.sbin.named contains syntax errors or
is not a valid #include file.

I narrowed the error down to the loadincludes() sub in
/usr/share/perl5/Immunix/SubDomain.pm - it expects all subdirectories of
/etc/apparmor.d/ to contain only 'include' style files. Consequently
when parsing force-complain/usr.sbin.named it hits the line ...

   /usr/sbin/named {

... and bails out.

A similar error is reported on Intrepid.

I see that the "force-complain" directory was introduced by the change
resulting from bug 203137

Ok I think I see what you're asking for now.

You are using an x86 machine and you're looking for the -debug packages.
The only ones you can find relate to the ports kernels. It's likely the

the ports kernels are lagging behind. Assigning to the 'linux' source

[Bug 292042] Re: Logitech Bluetooth keyboards (Mediaboard & Di Novo) not working on Intrepid

2008-11-10 Thread Dan Munckton
Attaching to bluez for now as I think we quite a bit of information to
be going along with. Although this problem may yet be due the linux-
ports kernels using a different kernel version (2.6.25) than the
supported architectures (2.6.27).

I don't have either of these devices myself so there's only a limited
amount I can do to help.

Note new workaround from the psubuntu forums:

Need to question the author of that as to why and how that works.

[Bug 295941] Re: vmlinux image for 2.6.27 kernel - not available in Intrepid!

2008-11-10 Thread Dan Munckton
Hi, thanks for the report. In fact, the Intrepid ports kernels remained
on 2.6.25, only the officially supported x86 and amd64 kernels moved to
2.6.27. So the linux-image-debug package should be fine. Could you
double check? If so I'll close the report.

You are right that the Jaunty development ports kernel has been updated
to 2.6.27 already.

Thanks.

I think we can close this.

Changing video mode using the GUI isn't supported at the moment. Instead
PS3 users need to use the method described by DoctaSpawk.

Please also be aware of the Overscan/Black Borders tutorial which
resolves another display res issue.

This has been fixed in the released version. I suspect you're
experiencing a different issue. Please check through the list of bugs

If you can't find one which matches your exact symptoms please start a
thread on our mailing list and we'll try to help you identify the
problem:

Cheers

Dan

** Description changed:

After a fresh install of Intrepid on PS3, ps3-kboot fails to
automatically find and mount the target partition /dev/ps3da1. The
problem can be worked around by using e2label to set the filesystem
  lable to "/":

e2label /dev/ps3da1 "/"

Once this has been done ps3-kboot correct finds the target partition and
  the system can be booted.

This used to work in previous versions of Ubuntu for PS3, so something
has changed, most likely in the installer.

[Bug 289977] Re: PS3: NetworkManager doesn't list available wireless networks even though "iwlist wlan0 scan" does

2008-10-31 Thread Dan Munckton
Have identified the following 3 commit set in 2.6.27 which **may** be
the solution to this problem:

7fd871edf437362b62ddd807542638cbda8d8a39 PS3: gelic: Add support for ESSID scan
f409e348005693016281bf29535c9d0a91b21f77 PS3: gelic: Deprecate the private
ioctls in the gelic driver
04b2046c856e36c3c9cf382adb2c0bc8ba780cf7 PS3: gelic: Use the new PMK interface
in the gelic driver

And the following thread which explains a little more about them:

http://marc.info/?l=linux-wireless&m=121213332232618&w=2

I also find them in the work-in-progress section of Geoff's
2.6.26-stable branch of this patches tree:

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/geoff/ps3-linux-
patches.git;a=tree;f=ps3-wip;h=38960dd53f645947d008b0a5005f5e69b1ebdf3e;hb=v2.6.26-stable

So plenty of patches to try. Will recompile and test these as soon as I
can.

Attaching /var/log/syslog from the PS3. Note very interesting messages
in the log:

Oct 28 20:45:08 ps3 NetworkManager: wlan0: driver does not
support SSID scans (scan_capa 0x00).

This is blatantly not true as a network scan can be successfully carried
out with "iwlist scan".

2008-10-28 Thread Dan Munckton
asac thanks for your reply.

I wasn't sure where in the network stack this problem would be coming
from so I dumped it on Network Manager to start with.

The PS3 uses these drivers

ps3_gelic_net
ps3_gelic_wireless

I had my eye on the following upstream patch [0], do you think this is
likely to be related? If so I'll test it and arrange for it to be to
included in the PS3 kernel as an SRU if it works.

Cheers

Suggested text for the release notes:

"On PS3 to get back to the Sony Playstation 3 XMB operating system from
the boot prompt users need to type "game" and press the Return key. If
this is for some reason not possible carrying out a hard-reset (see PS3
instruction manual) will return to the XMB on next run."

[Bug 285218] Re: PS3: Immediate boot hang with blank screen

2008-10-28 Thread Dan Munckton
Suggested text for the release notes:

"The graphical boot splash (usplash) is disabled for the PS3 as it
mysteriously stopped working shortly before the Intrepid Release
Candidate milestone and now hangs the system. PS3 users upgrading from
Hardy *MUST* edit their /etc/kboot.conf and change all occurrences of
the "splash" boot parameter to "nosplash", otherwise it will be much
more difficult (but not impossible) getting it to boot post upgrade.
Users doing a fresh install will not need to change anything."

[Bug 278801] Re: 2.6.27 default TCP congestion control regression...

2008-10-28 Thread Dan Munckton
The i386 and PowerPC Intrepid ports kernels also need to be updated to
use cubic:

$ git grep DEFAULT_TCP_CONG
config/hppa/config:CONFIG_DEFAULT_TCP_CONG="cubic"
config/i386/config:CONFIG_DEFAULT_TCP_CONG="reno"
config/ia64/config:CONFIG_DEFAULT_TCP_CONG="cubic"
config/powerpc/config:CONFIG_DEFAULT_TCP_CONG="reno"
config/sparc/config:CONFIG_DEFAULT_TCP_CONG="cubic"

Is this something that could go out in a ports SRU post Intrepid
release, or would we have to wait for Jaunty?

[Bug 290202] Re: PS3 desktop installer: drops to busybox prompt "Can not mount /dev/loop0"

for the desktop CD it's not a showstopper for Intrepid on PS3 as we do
have a working alternate CD.

[Bug 290202] [NEW] PS3 desktop installer: drops to busybox prompt "Can not mount /dev/loop0"

2008-10-28 Thread Dan Munckton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: casper

Using the 'install_nosplash' option at the ps3-kboot prompt (because
usplash needs to be disabled see bug #285218), screen clear and within
seconds I'm dropped to "initramfs" busy box prompt and the install does
not proceed. Error messages output are (full debug enabled log
attached):

/init: line 1: cannot open /dev/sr0: no such file
/init: line 1: cannot open /dev/sr0: no such file
mount: mounting /dev/loop0 on //filesystem.squashfs failed: No such device
Can not mount /dev/loop0 (/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs) on
//filesystem.squashfs

CD image taken from Intrepid daily build 2008-10-24 (just after the 'rc'
milestone).

Does connect to WEP networks ok though. Pretty much the same symptoms as
bug #101857 (which is already closed).
