[Bug 1619958] [NEW] lxd init is ungraceful when zfs is not installed
Public bug reported: root@merida:~# lxd init Name of the storage backend to use (dir or zfs) [default=zfs]: zfs error: The requested backend 'zfs' isn't available on your system (missing tools). (and lxd init bails at this point) So - we're defaulting to an option that causes lxd init to exit unsuccessfully. Of course, all that needs to be done is an 'apt install zfsutils-linux'. But it seems that the more graceful thing to do would be either to offer to install zfsutils-linux when the user selects zfs here, or don't offer zfs as an option for a lxd storage backend if zfsutils-linux is not installed. Not major, just a fit-and-finish thing. ** Affects: lxd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: cpe -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1619958 Title: lxd init is ungraceful when zfs is not installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxd/+bug/1619958/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1377973] Re: lxc-destroy/lxc-stop gets stuck
The container has since been restarted (by issuing a 'reboot' inside the container), which unstuck lxc-ls, it's now behaving normally. If it happens again I'll see what I can see. It's not the first time I've seen this happen. LXC has not been upgraded since the container was started, no. The container was created via 'sudo lxc-create -t download -n name' - nothing terribly unusual that separates it from a couple other containers running on the same hardware. It runs a desktop (xfce) which is unique but not a particularly wacky use case. The only special config is autostart, an lxc.cgroup.devices.allow statement, and an lxc.mount.entry. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to lxc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1377973 Title: lxc-destroy/lxc-stop gets stuck To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/+bug/1377973/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1377973] Re: lxc-destroy/lxc-stop gets stuck
Quoting Serge Hallyn Perhaps after a (reasonably long) timeout we should assume it is dead, hard-kill the container (in this case the owner of the command socket), and continue. I'm seeing this behaviour happen in Vivid although in my case the stuck container is perfectly responsive and is working fine e.g. if I ssh into it. So the assumption that the container is dead and should be killed may not be the answer... [Bug 1318477] Re: [Dell XPS 15 9530] Wakes from sleep after exactly 24 hours + 3-5 seconds
The system resumes by itself repeatably every 24 hours using an Ubuntu kernel. When tested with a mainline kernel, it resumed after roughly 19h30m. So not 24 hours, but it did still resume. I have not tested more than once with the mainline kernel to see if it resumes consistently after 19h30m or if the time varies. The challenge with performing a bisect is that experience has shown that I have to wait 24h to see if the problem occurs again. Per the comment immediately above yours, the resume after 24 hours occurs exactly the same on BIOS A04 as it does on A01. Using upstream kernel, a random resume did occur BUT not after 24 hours - after significantly less time (19h 30m). The only thing interesting about the time at which it resumed is it happened to coincide with aGoogle Calendar reminder firing off in Chrome, which was open on the suspended machine. [Bug 1318477] Re: [Dell XPS 15 9530] Wakes from sleep after exactly 24 hours + 3-5 seconds
Q: Has this system ever had any prior Ubuntu releases installed on it, or is Trusty the first? A: This system has had Saucy installed on it but the installation to Trusty was fresh (drives wiped). The behavior described did not occur under Saucy Q: Can you also see if this issue happens while the system is connected to AC power for 24 hours? A: I have tested this with the system connected to AC and it does occur. Q: There are a couple of initial triaging steps we can perform. One would be to test the latest mainline kernel to see if this bug is already fixed upstream. If it is not, we should also find out if this is a regression. If it is a regression, we can bisect to find the commit that introduced this. So in addition to testing this bug with AC power, can you also test the latest mainline kernel, which can be downloaded from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15-rc5-utopic/ Just let me know if you have any issues or questions installing that kernel. A: Haven't done this but will over the weekend. I see the note regarding the outdated bios and will also test that (upstream kernel first, see if it recurs; upstream and stock kernel using new bios as well). Q: Can you review your BIOS settings to see if there is an automatic wakeup set there? A: There is not. Q: Also, is the system waking up 24 hours from the time it is suspended, or does it wakeup at the same time of day? Just trying to see if an external USB device is waking it at a specific time. A: The system will wake up 24 hours from the time suspended regardless of time of day. Q: One last thing, the Firmware Test Suite can dump some CMOS data to see if wakeup is set. If possible, can you install fwts and run the following: sudo fwts cmosdump Then attach the output. [Bug 1318477] Re: XPS 15 9530 wakes from sleep after exactly 24 hours + 3-5 seconds
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected trusty ** Description changed: This feels related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell- sputnik/+bug/1161962 but there are some differences making me think that a new bug is warranted - the aforementioned link relates to Saucy on an XPS 13; my instance is Trusty on an XPS 15. The aforementioned link indicates a wait of about 40 minutes to resume; this one occurs after 24 hours + 3-5 seconds. System is an XPS 15 9530, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD. Trusty, fresh install from scratch (not an upgrade over Saucy). Symptoms: The system will wake itself from sleep after very nearly exactly 24 hours, + / - 10 seconds or so. /var/log/pm-suspend.log will show this: [...] Sat May 10 22:08:49 MDT 2014: performing suspend Sun May 11 22:08:54 MDT 2014: Awake. [..] In this case the system has resumed after 24 hours and 5 seconds with no user request to do so. Steps to reproduce: Suspend machine by closing lid. The system can be plugged in to charge while it is suspended, and then subsequently unplugged, but the suspend occurs on battery power, and when the resume occurs the system is also not plugged in. Re: [Bug 1318477] Re: XPS 15 9530 wakes from sleep after exactly 24 hours + 3-5 seconds
I will test but it will be several days before I am able to do so - I'm at ODS and the laptop is my daily driver. It has previously had Saucy installed. On Tuesday, May 13, 2014, Joseph Salisbury joseph.salisb...@canonical.com wrote: Has this system ever had any prior Ubuntu releases installed on it, or is Trusty the first? Can you also see if this issue happens while the system is connected to AC power for 24 hours? There are a couple of initial triaging steps we can perform. -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318477 Title: XPS 15 9530 wakes from sleep after exactly 24 hours + 3-5 seconds Status in Dell Sputnik: New Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This feels related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell- sputnik/+bug/1161962 but there are some differences making me think that a new bug is warranted - the aforementioned link relates to Saucy on an XPS 13; my instance is Trusty on an XPS 15. [Bug 1316847] Re: Chromium launch script should follow ubuntu Scaling setting to work on HiDPI screens
It's annoying that Chromium does not yet Do The Right Thing with regard to scaling on Linux. However, the --force-device-scaling-factor=X.Y where X.Y 1.0 breaks things in some interesting ways. Menus appear in the wrong place and are in some cases unusable, and desktop notifications stop functioning. However, I'd be hard-pressed to say that we should decide as a default behavior to break these functions - versus having it squinty but fully functional. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1316847 Title: Chromium launch script should follow ubuntu Scaling setting to work on HiDPI screens To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1316847/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1274944] Re: maas-dhcp-server should be configured to start after all network interfaces it serves are up
So if I'm reading James' comments correctly, this bug is not a little deal. Both Akash and I have encountered this in customer environments, and it leads to dhcpd not coming up when the interface is configured in MAAS. This is a non-obvious failure state and subsequently leads to several hours of hair-tearing-out trying to figure out why MAAS isn't booting a client system... Until you says to yourself, you says, nah, it couldn't be something as silly as dhcpd not starting up when I configured the interface... It's not _necessarily_ a packaging bug as I would think that dhcpd needs to be told to Do The Right Thing (tm) whenever a network configuration is adjusted for any reason - add interface, remove interface, change IP range, etc. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to maas in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1274944 Title: maas-dhcp-server should be configured to start after all network interfaces it serves are up To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1274944/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1274072] [NEW] No debconf option to set up DNS forwarding
Public bug reported: When installing MAAS, it of course acts as the DNS server for systems under its control. However, it does not configure a DNS forwarder by default, so when systems under its control ask for addresses about which it does not know, it answers not found rather than forwarding the requests on to a DNS server that might know. This is fixed by setting forwarders in /etc/bind/named.conf.options. MAAS should be able to accept this setting as a debconf option as it is installed so that it can gracefully handle this situation. ** Affects: maas (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to maas in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1274072 Title: No debconf option to set up DNS forwarding To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/maas/+bug/1274072/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
