[Bug 849461] Re: Two finger scrolling: Synaptics settings have to be adapted after installation

2012-01-19 Thread Daniel Fletcher
The included synaptics.conf file works on ubuntu 11.04/11.10/12.04, and
in arch/opensuse/fedora/backtrack jolios for all synaptic pads I've
come across. Not all the settings are necessary for two-finger scroll,
but it does allow the setting into unity/gnome-control-center to
function properly and you can switch between side scroll and two-finger
scrolling. I know this won't be fixed for 12.04 but it's a perm fix and
this works across the board so far over the last year for me on dozens
of installs

** Attachment added: Not all the settings would be needed, those that do could
go into 51-synaptics-quirks.conf

[Bug 901386] Re: Ubuntu 3.2 kernels vs. nvidia-current vs GTX 560 (Mainline works)

2012-01-17 Thread Daniel Fletcher
It was my mistake earlier. I used my own compile of the 3.2 kernel with
IOMMU all disabled as I only have a Core2 Duo that doesn't support
IOMMU. I have to use the intel_iommu=off with any build of the 3.2 or
3.2.1 kernel wether from ubuntu sources or kernel.org. On 12.10 and
11.10. Using any nvidia binary.

[Bug 897102] Re: precise can't boot with linux 3.2.0.1.1

2012-01-17 Thread Daniel Fletcher
WIth my 9600M GS 512MB, I have to use intel_iommu=off on the 3.2 kernels
unless I compile a kernel with IOMMU already off (Which I wind up doing
as I compile my own kernel for other reasons). It's annoying as when I
do a fresh install of a PP daily and I click to add additional like MP3
support, it install nvidia-173 which just like the newer nvidia binaries
or nvidia-current will not work with my Core2 notebook and video card
with IOMMU on. My CPU doesn't support IOMMU.

[Bug 901386] Re: Ubuntu 3.2 kernels vs. nvidia-current vs GTX 560 (Mainline works)

2011-12-19 Thread Daniel Fletcher
I did a custom compile of 3.2.0-6 with no nouveau driver at all, then
purged all nvidia debs and in single mode ran the nvidia binary with the
--uninstall option and deleted my xorg.conf file. Rebooted and installed
the nvidia binary in single mode then rebooted again and have 3.2
kernel along with nvidia acceration. This is just on my 11.10 install.
Will do a fresh install of 12.04 from a daily ISO, and try installing
the nvidia binary without touching nvidia-current.

[Bug 901386] Re: Ubuntu 3.2 kernels vs. nvidia-current vs GTX 560 (Mainline works)

2011-12-17 Thread Daniel Fletcher
Further troubleshooting lead me to acpi=off being a solution. Just not a
good one. I'll take a look at the .config file that's default with 3.2
and compare to the latest ubuntu .config later. Or pull the config out
of a working 3.2 deb and compare to the new ones. Something must have
changed in ubuntu's .config to cause this.

[Bug 901386] Re: Ubuntu 3.2 kernels vs. nvidia-current vs GTX 560 (Mainline works)

2011-12-16 Thread Daniel Fletcher
This is happening to me with a 9600M GS 512MB. Tried with a fresh daily
ISO install of precise, and it also happens on my 11.10 install with the
newer 3.2 kernel packages applied. I have also purged nvidia-current and
tried with the binaries from nvidia of 290.10, 290.06 and 285.05.09. If
I download RC5 from kernel.org and compile wether with my custom .conf
file or with the defaults any of the nvidia drivers work just fine. I
don't like using them from kernel.org though as then ureadahead doesn't
work.

[Bug 901386] Re: Ubuntu 3.2 kernels vs. nvidia-current vs GTX 560 (Mainline works)

2011-12-16 Thread Daniel Fletcher
I forget to mention that my system doesn't drop to a TTY. It just goes
to a black screen, then the backlight eventually turns off. No matter
which nvidia driver or in 12.04 or 11.10. I know it's with the video
driver as I disabled lightdm to boot to a command prompt, then run
startx manually and it still locks. Can't switch to TTY1-6.

[Bug 854292] Re: indicator-session power menu disappears after running update-manager or apt-get

2011-09-26 Thread Daniel Fletcher
dbarth, if it is an issue relating to dbus, I had to move /var/run and
var/lock to /run and /run/lock respectively and create symlinks to fix
lots of program crashes upon login after upgrading 11.04-11.10 that
were all erroring with dbus. I don't know enough to know if that is
relevant but wanted to add that.

[Bug 811441] Re: Unable to connect to the system bus: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: Connection refused (oneiric)

2011-09-24 Thread Daniel Fletcher
Had same issue after 11.0411.10 BETA 2 upgrade. Moving the files and
creating the symlinks in recovery fixed it as pacrock suggested. The
issue with 'Restart to complete system updates' even when I haven't ran
any updates still happens so may be unrelated.
