[Bug 1511511] Re: USB keyboard stops working after pressing extended key

2018-07-12 Thread Daniel M. Lambea
@kaihengfeng, I've sent the code to kernel.org and it's under review.

In the meantime, I am keeping the code in my Github updated, so the
users can download a pre-packaged DKMS deb file from it (or compile
their own).

2018-06-25 Thread Daniel M. Lambea
@kaihengfeng, I believe upstreaming the driver is the right thing to do,
but I need to learn more about how in-tree drivers are written and
submitted.

Yes, I will try my best to upstreaming it. I will contact you when/if
the driver is accepted. Thank you very much for your help.

[Bug 1511511] Re: USB keyboard stops working after pressing extended key

2018-06-17 Thread Daniel M. Lambea
@Alexander, @Taimur: thanks to your comments and efforts, I've managed
to make a very basic HID driver for this keyboard. I have tested it
against kernel 4.15.0-23-generic with success. Please remove
"hid_generic" before loading this module and plugging the keyboard in,
so that hid_generic doesn't take on the device.

I took some parts from the aziokbd.c driver (by Colin Svingen;
https://bitbucket.org/Swoogan/aziokbd/src/f3611717bce078056634bc2312dba2787a433401/aziokbd.c?fileviewer
=file-view-default) and made a minimal mapping table between the special
keys G1-G6 to F1-F5 and SPACE. this way, the rightmost part of the
spacebar (which is labelled as G6) also works as the SPACE key.

This is my very first implementation of anything related to kernel code,
so expect it to be ugly, buggy and incorrect. Actually, I've found that
the kernel oops with a stack trace when the device is disconnected. This
is not a problem if you're using the keyboard as usual, but if you're
unplugging it (as when debugging with a VM, for example), your
machine/VM will become unstable.

I hope somebody with better understanding of USB and kernel driver
programming will take it and make something good out of this code. If
you are interested in evolving this driver and you need me to send you
keycodes/debugging output, don't hesitate to contact me.

[Bug 1511511] Re: USB keyboard stops working after pressing extended key

2016-08-15 Thread Daniel M. Lambea
I've managed to collect two PCAPNG files, one captured using virtualized
Windows 7 and the second directly under Ubuntu 16.04LTS fully upgraded
up to date.

In both sessions, after initialization I pressed "a" key, then special key
"G6". The "a" key makes four packets to be recorded. The "G6" special key
generates six packets under Windows and only four packets under Linux (the
first two packets that can be seen in the Windows dump never occur in Linux).
After hitting "G6", the Windows session is fully responsive. But in the Linux
session, the device stops responding until:
  a) is unplugged, then replugged.
  b) the USB is connected to the Windows Virtual Machine (VirtualBox), which
resets the device and makes it responsive again.

In the Windows dump, the last 10 packets correspond to the "a" keypress
(4 packets) then "G6" keypress (6 packets). In the Linux dump, the last
8 packets correspond to the "a" keypress (4 packets), then "G6" keypress
(only 4 packets).

Linux)"

2015-11-03 Thread Daniel M. Lambea
The keyboard was bought a few months ago and the bug have always been
there. I've tried the keyboard both in upgraded systems and in fresh
installations to no avail.

Following your instructions, I have just tested it right now using the
mainline kernel (at the URL you provided) and the bug is still showing,
so I proceed with adding the tag 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

[Bug 1504321] Re: Freeze after selecting text in LO while using nouveau

2015-10-09 Thread Daniel M
Christopher, Thank you for your rapid response.
Since posting the bug last night I have switched nvidia driver (as others
suggested in the original thread). This has solved the problem for me.
I'll try to find the time to switch back to nouveau and check out your bios fix
but I'm a little busy for the next week or so - the freeze issue has been
interfering with my work and now I need to make up lost time. If the bios fix
doesn't work for me then I'll let you know.

[Bug 1001127] Re: calendar widget displays wrong day and date

2012-05-24 Thread Daniel M. Basso
The bug happens for me too. It doesn't make sense to require an internet
connection, when you can use the system's time. My computer takes some
seconds to connect to the wireless network after being resumed, so that
is one possible reason for the bug to occur.

[Bug 999832] [NEW] I can not find launch button for installed program Gnome Office

2012-05-15 Thread Daniel M. Valletta
Public bug reported:

Hello- I can not find launch button for an installed program Gnome
Office. I followed instructions, I believe, in that I consulted the
Ubunto Software Center where it claims that the program is installed but
I see no place on that page from which to launch the program.
Instructions say that the launch area is below the colored bar but I see
no color bar on the page nor any feasible way to launch the program form
the page. I looked as thoroughly as I could manage to find the program
in the application area and throughout the computer system to no avail.
I've spent over an hour in the course of two days looking for a way to
launch the program. Any suggestions? Regards. . .

[Bug 767048] Re: py-slice.py crashed with TypeError in slice(): integer argument expected, got float

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 733055 ***

The original of this duplicate bug doesn't exist anymore?

Well, while this is sorted out, a simple workaround is to apply the
attached patch to a user copy of the plug-in:

cd .gimp-2.6/plug-ins/
cp /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/py-slice.py .
patch https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gimp/+bug/767048/+attachment/2619629/+files/py-slice.patch

[Bug 654936] Re: Maverick 10.10 server does not boot on IBM x3650 M2

2011-11-17 Thread Daniel M
In reply to "missing required logs", there are no logs to be produced.
The os does not boot or produces any logs to be seen, so I marked it as
confirmed. Sorry for the long delay, I was checking this out as I am
preparing to upgrade to Oneiric (11.10) (did not test the oneiric CD
yet, though. That will require some downtime scheduling.)

[Bug 654928] Re: application does not allow to report bugs concerning ubuntu in general (asks for PID if you try to report "other problems")

I was reviewing my reported bugs and I realized that this old one still has not
been fixed.
Taking the chance to update my initial report: launchpad has an obvious "report
a bug" link, which can be used to report such bugs. I managed to report my
other bug soon after this one was filed.

[Bug 501923] Re: ENE CIR Receiver chip don't work

2010-12-19 Thread Daniel M. Basso
Thanx for all your work, Maxim. Finally I got the IR control of my
Satellite A660-12x to work on Ubuntu 10.10.

Quick instructions for all the affected people:

$ git clone git://gitorious.org/ene-cir/ene-cir.git # download the module
sources
$ cd ene-cir
$ make
$ modinfo lirc_dev # check where the current driver is installed (in my case
/lib/modules/2.6.35-23-generic/kernel/drivers/media/IR)
$ mv /lib/modules/2.6.35-23-generic/kernel/drivers/media/IR bkpIR # move the
whole IR folder out of the modules' path
$ sudo make install
$ reboot

Now you can check if it worked with 'xev', press some buttons and see
the event codes it should generate.

The 'ir_lirc_codec: disagrees about version of symbol' errors previously
reported were caused by some older drivers in the IR folder still being
loaded, so make sure to do that 'mv'.

Cheers,

Daniel

[Bug 654936] [NEW] Maverick 10.10 server RC does not boot on IBM x3650 M2

2010-10-04 Thread Daniel M
Public bug reported:

Problem:
The 10.10 server RC cd does not boot on my IBM x3650 M2 server.

How to reproduce:
Burn the Maverick amd64 server Release Candidate image to a CD. Insert the cd
on the cd-rom drive of a IBM x3650 M2, boot the server from the cd.
A black grub window will show up, instead of the ubuntu language choice menu.
Clicking on the "install" option will display the message "error: cannot
allocate protected mode pages" "you need to load the kernel first" (screenshots
attached)

Further information:
The 10.04 server cd worked fine on this machine when I took the same steps.
I booted a desktop with the same cd and checked it for defects. No problems
found.
I checked the md5sum of the image

[Bug 654928] [NEW] application does not allow to report bugs concerning ubuntu in general (asks for PID if you try to report "other problems")

2010-10-04 Thread Daniel M
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apport

Context:
I am currently trying to report a bug in Maverick RC released in 2010-10-01,
which does not boot on my IBM x3650 M2 servers. I was not able to find a
"submit new bug" on ubuntu's website, and the documentation for reporting a new
bug tells me to use Apport.

Problem:
I was not able to submit my bug using Apport.

How to reproduce:
press alt+f2, run ubuntu-bug without arguments, click on "other problem" and
hit "ok". A message "You need to specify a package or a PID" pops up. Apport
allows no further action after that.

Other thoughts:
I do think Apport is the wrong way to report my bug, since it concerns
another distro and is pre-boot, but the documentation does not point in any
other direction. If there is another way, maybe a bug report against the
documentation is necessary.

Apenas o nome das tags para o highlight, o que, como eu disse, não é
muito relevante. No meu código, por exemplo, muito mais importante que
ter a tradução dos nomes das tags (que não apareciam em lugar algum) era
que o syntax highlight funcionasse.

As a work around, it is possible to just remove the translation file at:

Worked without warnings, and those translations weren't really necessary
