Re: [Bug 137235] Re: Kubuntu 7.10 Tribe 5 does not allow LILO-install

2007-09-05 Thread Daniel Melin

Daniel, could you please elaborate? Going back and selecting GRUB should
still work fine. What happens when you try? We aren't going to ask this
question by default - I would much rather make the installer
automatically select the proper boot loader when necessary (so I would
also like more details on how your system is incompatible with GRUB).

Status: New = Incomplete

Should I reply to the Bug-adress or to you Colin? I'll do both this
time.

In Kubuntu AMD64 Tribe 4 Alternate I choose Go back when GRUB asks where I
should put the boot-loader. I then choose Install LILO. Everything works
OK.

In Tribe 5, GRUB gets installed automatically, and I get the choice to Go
back at installation-end. But then the CD is unmounted and ejected, so if I
go back an choose LILO then the installer wont find the packages needed and
hangs on 50%.

I then added priority=low when I booted the installer-CD and then I can
install LILO OK.

I'm using 1 NTFS-partition, 1 EXT3 as / and 1 SWAP

The problem with GRUB seems to be that my very new nVidia 8600GT is not
supported in the framebuffer-stuff (?) that GRUB uses when it boots. LILO
boots in console-mode and everything works out OK.

The machine is not in production so I can reformat and install and try out the
stuff you want me to. I'll be glad to help.

Regards,
Daniel

[Bug 137235] Kubuntu 7.10 Tribe 5 does not allow LILO-install

2007-09-04 Thread Daniel Melin
Public bug reported:

In Kubuntu 7.10 AMD64 Alternate Tribe 4 when the GRUB-installer asks
stuff, I choose to go back and choose LILO instead (that's because my
nVidia 8600 is incompatible with GRUB). In Tribe 5, that has changed so
I now have to do priority=low at boot and do the expert-install. I
would like that the installer asks if the user wants GRUB (default and
recommended) or LILO and then installs the boot loader.

[Bug 136965] bluetooth breaks when upgradring from Kubuntu Tribe 4 to Tribe 5

2007-09-03 Thread Daniel Melin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebluetooth

After installation of Kubuntu 7.10 AMD64 Alternate Tribe 4, Bluetooth
works fine. But when I upgrade to Tribe 5 or use Adept Updater to
upgrade the packages, Bluetooth breaks. A fresh install of Tribe 5 gives
the same problem. First the upgrade-process complains that kbluetooth
cannot upgrade because it needs libbluetooth0. I then manually install
libbluetooth0, which works fine. But after reboot Bluetooth crashes
every time. The crash is in the program kblueplugd. If I then enable
Bluetooth (the PC always hardware-disables Bluetooth at boot) and start
kbluetooth again, it works.

sources.list is untouched.

[Bug 136970] Ethernet-interface does not do DHCP after upgrading from Kubuntu 7.10 Tribe 4 to Tribe 5

2007-09-03 Thread Daniel Melin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: knetworkmanager

Ethernet works fine in Kubuntu 7.10 AMD64 Alternate Tribe 4. When
upgrading to Tribe 5 or doing a fresh install of Tribe 5, DHCP doesn't
happen. If I do a disable/enable in the network manager, everything
works fine. The adapter is a Broadcom 5787M.
