Hello Ian
Thank you for your reply. I have gotten some error messages, perhaps you
either can help out with it or ask to some mates who has experienced
something like this. :o)
When I initialize the system through the HD, after a while I got the
following messages

[173.651107] ata2: port failed to respond (30 secs, status 0x80)
[203.877487] ata2.00: revalidation failed

then, the system lists a lot of entries and stops with the following:

[303.873458] Buffer I/O error on dev sda1, logical block 1

I do not understand why it shows this kind of messages "ata2". The hard disk
interface is IDE. :o(

I think it does not mean an error, bad block or something related to the
hard disk because I was using Fedora Core 6 rather well in the same hard
disk. I have changed to Ubuntu 7.04 because it is better for desktop use
than Fedora. Actually, I use Ubuntu since it's 5.10 version and I have never
gotten this kind of issue.

[Bug 112612] Bad block /dev/sda

2007-05-05 Thread Danillo Oliveira
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub

Hello Guys,

I have installed Ubuntu 7.04 on my system from the Live CD and I found it
awesome. The system was working fine after some days from the installation and
one day when I turned on the computer I have received this error during the
system startup always after it starts the network services..."bad bloc
/dev/sda..timed out".
When it happened for the first time, I just rebooted the system and start over
and sometimes the system started up successfully and I have worked normally.
But today, the system refuses to start up.
I have a IDE hard drive 8GB with Ubuntu 7.04 installed only. I don't know why
Ubuntu is showing this error"bad block /dev/sda" which means something
related to SCSI drive if my hard drive is IDE.

I have read some information in here and I believe my case is new. I have run
some steps collecting some logs like fdisk -l and lshw -C disk. I have checked
the /boot/grub/menu.lst and /boot/grub/device.map files...I believe they are ok.
Do you guys could help me ?

Thanks in advance.
