[Bug 207065] [NEW] Bad Compiz Bindings Bug

2008-03-26 Thread DannyW
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I'm currently using hardy with all updates.

1. alt+leftclick I can drag the window around.
2. alt+rightclick brings up the window menu (minimise, unmaximise, etc).
3. alt+middleclick allows me to resize the window.

I would like actions 2 and 3 switching around.

So, I installed compiz-settings-manager as I saw no other way to change
this.

The bindings in ccsm looked ok.

Move Window - Initiate Window Move : AltButton1
Resize - Bindings - Initiate Window Resize : AltButton2
General Options - Window Menu : AltButton3

So it seems that my Button2 and Button3 are switched.

Ok, so I'll just swap the bindings.

Set General Options - Window Menu = AltButton2

The new value for the Button binding for the action Window Menu in plugin
General Options conflicts with the action Initiate Window Resize of the Resize
Window plugin.
Do you wish to disable Initiate Window Resize in the Resize Window plugin?

I click Set Window Menu anyway, and it looks like it's set. But If I
go back to the main menu and then back to General Options it has set
back to AltButton3.

Instead I tried to simply disable the Window Menu binding as I don't use it
anyway.
Again, it looks to have worked. Says disable in the box. But now strangely I
cant left click... anywhere! This is why I set the topic title to bad - if I
were a new user a complete reinstall would be my solution to this.

Luckily I notice alt+leftclick is now my leftclick. If I navigate to the
main menu using alt+leftclick and then go back to General Options I see
Window Menu is not disabled, but set to Button3 (No Alt modifier)?!?!

Instead of disabling it I try to set it to AltButton9 as this is
unused and again it looks well, but is still bound to AltButton3.

I tried just changing the modifier of Window Menu and this worked, but
it changed the modifier of the other bindings too (window move, window
resize).

This is a very annoying bug as I've used linux for a while now and I am
used to alt+rightclick resizing!

Is there any config file I can edit manually until this is fixed.

Thanks in advance,
Danny

[Bug 152383] Lenovo N200 Laptop sound not working by default

2007-10-13 Thread DannyW
Public bug reported:

Just got my laptop and this problem with with the current Gutsy.

The sound on my Lenovo 3000 N200 laptop was not working by default.

I had to add the line:
options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo
to /etc/modprobe.d/options and restart the computer.

This should work by default.

Slightly off-topic:
I had unfortunately left the built-in microphone unmuted from trying to get
some form of output before I found this solution. So I was greeted with a very
very very loud high pitched noise from the feedback. I had to painfully endure
this until I could access volume control to mute the microphone. Plugging my
headset into the jacks on the laptop didn't turn the speakers off to stop this
feedback while I tried to reach volume control. I guess that's also a bug which
still isn't fixed for Gutsy.

[Bug 105191] Re: restarting xserver (or switching back to ctrl+alt+F7 from ctrl+alt+F1-6) hangs/crashes/freezes system with fglrx

2007-04-14 Thread DannyW
Update:

No problems using DVI rather than VGA (same monitor graphics card)

Still, this is not a fix for me (degraded quality is clearly (or
unclearly as it were) visible), just a temporary work around.

Please let me know if I can help any further.

[Bug 105191] Re: restarting xserver (or switching back to ctrl+alt+F7 from ctrl+alt+F1-6) hangs/crashes/freezes system with fglrx

2007-04-13 Thread DannyW
Is it possible that I could be experiencing two bugs as I see some
people with just half of what I am explaining. One bug not allowing me
to view the terminals alt+ctrl+F1-6 on or after the login screen
(causing my monitor to go into standby) and the other bug causing a
crash when switching back to gde or restarting the xserver.

No proof of this, just throwing it out there as an option, if it helps.

Latest feisty beta, all packages updated.

[Bug 105191] restarting xserver (or switching back to ctrl+alt+F7 from ctrl+alt+F1-6) hangs/crashes/freezes system with fglrx

2007-04-10 Thread DannyW
Public bug reported:

When pressing ctrl+alt+F1-6 (at or after the graphical Ubuntu login) my
monitor goes into standby, as if it is receiving no signal.

At the stage the computer has not froze, e.g. caps lock button still
toggles the keyboard light.

Next, when I press ctrl+alt+F7 to get back to gnome/xserver the system
crashes and a cold reset is needed.

Also, I could just press ctrl+alt+backspace from within gnome to
reproduce this crash.

This problem does not occur with the xorg 'ati' driver, but with the 'fglrx'
driver.
To clarify, with the standard 'ati' driver I can switch between terminals (and
see them) using ctrl+alt+F1-6 and back to gnome with ctrl+alt+F7, and also
restart the xserver with ctrl+alt+backspace.

Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty - all latest software updates (using update manager)
ATI Radeon X800
X Driver: fglrx
Monitor: Dell 2407WFP
Mainboard: Asus A8v Deluxe
Grub boot line: kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-14-generic
root=UUID=6b1f1a14-6185-4be1-a374-c149b2dd917c ro quiet

Note: When booting with parameter vga=0x317 (i.e. vga=791) there is
approximately a 1 minute period where the monitor is in standby between
the end of booting Ubuntu (i.e. when the login screen would usually
appear) and the Ubuntu login screen actually appearing (and playing the
sound).

Sorry if I have misplaced this report, I'm relatively new to Linux, so please
let me know if there is anything I can provide you with (logs etc.) to help
with this problem.

I would settle with the standard ati driver provided but it is essential
that I have TV-out support (which I do when I use fglrx - but all of
these other problems come with it).

[Bug 102309] Re: desktop-effects sets workspaces to 1

2007-04-10 Thread DannyW
Sorry, I'm not sure about the difference between horizontal viewports
and workspaces.

When cube is turned in with desktop-effects I only see one 'desktop' on
the panel in the bottom right. When the cube used to work for me,
enabling it in desktop-effects used to create four 'desktops' on the
panel in the bottom right of my screen.

Sorry for any confusion.
