[Bug 928553] Re: Non-default wallpapers are not readable by Unity-Greeter
Personally, I haven't been affected by this bug anymore. (Also, I stopped having my HOME encrypted, and now I use full disk encryption, which is a better solution anyhow) Now, when you right click on an image and "Set as wallpaper", it'll get copied to ~/Pictures/Wallpapers this folder is world readable, so if the issue was with the folder, it's now solved. The file itself still retains its permissions, but I think this is on purpose. If a custom wallpaper is added with the + button inside the control panel, the picture is not copied, so you'd need to workaround that manually. I think all of this might still be an issue if the HOME is encrypted. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/928553 Title: Non-default wallpapers are not readable by Unity-Greeter To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/928553/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1571668] Re: Mysql upgrade locks out its root user
Thank you, indeed I had the suspicion that some kind of local socket authentication might've been disabled, instead of changing the password. > I think it's something else - please see below. Based on this, you should be able to change the root password to something non-empty with "sudo dpkg-reconfigure mysql-server-5.7" and then logging in as a non- root user should work. Alternatively, you should be able to log in as the mysql root user that has an empty password if you run the client as Unix root (eg. with sudo). I did already attempt the dpkg-reconfigure, but that's not useful (You can select the password only when creating a new datadir with empty config, and thus a dpkg-reconfigure does not suffice). logging in with sudo instead works, but weirdly if then I ALTER USER 'root'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'a'; I cannot login as normal user by supplying password `a`, and otoh I can still login by sudo-ing and without providing any mysql password. (I presume that this happens due to something like disabling the ability to change permissions when logging in via sudo... weird that this doesn't explicitly generate an error, though) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1571668 Title: Mysql upgrade locks out its root user To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.7/+bug/1571668/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1571668] [NEW] Mysql upgrade locks out its root user
Public bug reported: If you have a mysql database with an empty root password (like we have here for development purpose) with mysql 5.6, with the upgrade to 16.04 you'll find yourself locked out on mysql 5.7 The problem is the new feature of mysql-server that generates a temporary password. Unfortunately, this password is not recorded anywhere, neither in a .mysql_secret file (if the deprecated mysql_install_db script would've been used) which is nowhere on the filesystem, nor in the mysql logs. (Like instead it is on Windows or Red Hat, apparently). The only solution (aside from wiping the db, and selecting a new password at install time), is to follow the instructions to reset permissions: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/resetting-permissions.html?acf=1 (but you won't be able to simply use the --init-file option, due to the apparmor sandboxing of mysqld) I attached a simple terminal session that demonstrates the issue ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: mysql-server 5.7.11-0ubuntu6 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-17.33-generic 4.4.6 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-17-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Mon Apr 18 14:34:46 2016 InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-03-07 (42 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Alpha amd64 (20160304) Logs.var.log.daemon.log: MySQLConf.etc.mysql.mysql.conf.d.mysqld_safe_syslog.cnf: [mysqld_safe] syslog MySQLVarLibDirListing: False PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: mysql-5.7 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: mysql-5.7 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apparmor apport-bug xenial ** Attachment added: "sessionlog" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1571668/+attachment/4639266/+files/sessionlog -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1571668 Title: Mysql upgrade locks out its root user To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.7/+bug/1571668/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1520979] [NEW] Grub multiboot is unable to load Xen under EFI
Public bug reported: As a new Xen user, when I install the `xen-hypervisor-amd64` package, I'd expect it to work fine. But upon rebooting, even if Xen succeed to boot, the system is basically unusable, and there are plenty of Irq errors in dmesg. It turns out that EFI is not very well supported under Xen: http://wiki.xenproject.org/wiki/Xen_EFI The alternatives are: - boot directly from the Efi (instead of relying on grub's multiboot) - enable legacy boot in the EFI, and reinstall grub in bios-mode (and hope that everything goes well) Since I don't think that the latter can be automated, the first one would be a better approach for ubuntu's packaging, I think. But even if that's not possible, or there are no resources for it, at least (until EFI on Grub won't be properly supported), either at install time or at boot time, the fact that the system is running on EFI should be detected, and explicitly warn the user (halt the boot process?) to avoid leaving him in a puzzlingly half-working system. [Bug 1290847] Re: pyvenv fails due to mising ensurepip module
@rspeer @wolfgang-richter The bug is "sort of fixed" You have to install python3-venv, this will make the ensurepip module available, and the creation of a virtualenv will succeed Imho this is an horrible naming choice: the error you'll get when trying to run `python3 -m venv` mentions ensurepip, and most ubuntu/debian users might have heard about the fact that ensurepip is disabled in the distro then, `apt list ensurepip` or `apt search ensurepip` won't yield any useful results (just like I tried to do, before being puzzled about the "fix released" status of this bug) moreover, `--without-pip` will just work even without the new package, making the name "python3-venv" even more misleading Still, I'd caution you AGAINST using venv... I just found another trivial bug. PS: the bug I found is not truly a bug, just a difference in behaviour between venv and virtualenv: the former won't allow you to locally install packages when created with --system-site-packages (making that flag effectively useless, imho), while virtualenv will allow you to layer local packages upon the globally installed ones ** Bug watch added: Python Roundup #24875 http://bugs.python.org/issue24875 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1290847 Title: pyvenv fails due to mising ensurepip module To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python3-defaults/+bug/1290847/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1435108] [NEW] Volume hotkeys stop working (dozens of seconds of delay)
Public bug reported: This seems to be a similar problem to the one described here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1829744 With recent Ubuntu versions, though, gnome-settings-daemon is not there anymore. I tried to kill unity-settings-daemon as a workaround, but it doesn't work. I followed the instructions here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting and I can correctly see the keypresses be received correctly both with xev and with evtest with the latter, I can see that the interesting hotkeys codes: Event: time 1427077143.513820, -- SYN_REPORT Event: time 1427077143.616493, type 4 (EV_MSC), code 4 (MSC_SCAN), value ae Event: time 1427077143.616493, type 1 (EV_KEY), code 114 (KEY_VOLUMEDOWN), value 0 Event: time 1427077143.616493, -- SYN_REPORT Event: time 1427077144.292461, type 4 (EV_MSC), code 4 (MSC_SCAN), value b0 Event: time 1427077144.292461, type 1 (EV_KEY), code 115 (KEY_VOLUMEUP), value 1 And the events can be seen even when the volume hotkeys are unresponsive (the volume is not updated). This seems to happen more often (or at least it's more noticeable to me) when watching something in fullscreen. Keypresses usually aren't lost, but are simply delayed and buffered, and thus if I press the button 5/10 times, after half a minute of so, all the keypresses will trigger the corresponding action all together ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.10 Package: udev 208-8ubuntu8.2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.16.0-31.43-generic 3.16.7-ckt5 Uname: Linux 3.16.0-31-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.7-0ubuntu8.2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity CustomUdevRuleFiles: 80-docker.rules Date: Mon Mar 23 02:07:48 2015 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-08-17 (217 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140722.2) MachineType: LENOVO 20AQCTO1WW ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.16.0-31-generic.efi.signed root=UUID=259bbe5f-d5f2-42de-89f9-58a9d77e4a21 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: systemd UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to utopic on 2014-10-16 (157 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 05/20/2014 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: GJET77WW (2.27 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 20AQCTO1WW dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: SDK0E50512 STD dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrGJET77WW(2.27):bd05/20/2014:svnLENOVO:pn20AQCTO1WW:pvrThinkPadT440s:rvnLENOVO:rn20AQCTO1WW:rvrSDK0E50512STD:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 20AQCTO1WW dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T440s dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug utopic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1435108 Title: Volume hotkeys stop working (dozens of seconds of delay) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1435108/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I worked around this issue with these instructions: https://one.ubuntu.com/help/faq/what-should-i-do-if-authentication- fails-auth_failed-state/ needless to say, I didn't manually remove my computer synchronization... it seems suspicious to me that the web interface shows exactly 10 devices (some of these were devices I reinstalled from scratch), maybe there's an hardcoded limit and by adding new devices old ones might get deactivated? [Bug 214786] Re: Apple USB ISO keyboard has incorrectly swapped keys
I'm affected by this problem as well, but the hid_apple fix didn't work for me this is weird, since I'm using the hid_apple.conf already to use the special keys as default: > cat /etc/modprobe.d/hid_apple.conf options hid_apple iso_layout=0 fnmode=1 I tried all of the 3 alternatives that have been written here: http://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/Apple/PageFragmentKeyboard but not even setting it from GRUB is working I cannot use the xmodmap setting for a different reason, it seems that I'm affected by this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/289781 the weird thing is that I don't have the evdev module loaded (I guess that the keyboard driver is supplied through usbhid or something like that), so for now I'm refraining to set that bug back to confirmed I also tried to use this file for startup: > cat .config/autostart/xmodmap.desktop [Desktop Entry] Type=Application Exec=xmodmap -e "keycode 49 = 0x3c 0x3e" -e "keycode 94 = 0x5c 0x7c" Hidden=false NoDisplay=false X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false Name=remap < and \ Comment= but it doesn't work (it's for the italian layout if you need it) If I remember correctly, some time ago I also tried to put a script in /etc/acpi/resume.sh (now probably it should go into /etc/pm/sleep.d/ ) to no avail and finally, sebastien bacher suggested me to use a gnome-settings-daemon hook: http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-settings-daemon/commit/?id=2ec0fbd38cd9d787fc3ad003f462c537ea795890 I wrote this small script #! /usr/bin/env python3 import argparse from subprocess import check_call as call from os.path import expanduser parser = argparse.ArgumentParser() parser.add_argument('-t') parser.add_argument('-i') parser.add_argument('name') args = parser.parse_args() if __name__ == '__main__': try: if args.t in ("added", "present") and args.i == "10": call(["xmodmap", expanduser("~/.Xmodmap")]) #EOF (I also added some error checking when debugging it, and 10 is the XID obtained from xinput) and I added it to g-s-d with gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.input-devices hotplug-command '/path/to/mac_keyboard_fix.py' but apparently, gnome-settings-daemon receives a device-added signal, only for device #11(touchpad) and #14(unknown) (so, this seems to be denying the hypothesis that the problem is due to the driver loading the keyboard as a completely different keyboard) right now, I'm not sure why, but when doing a suspend/resume, if I previously applied the xmodmap, the change retains... but in the meanwhile I removed the python script, deactivated the .desktop startup item, and nothing else should be able to change the behaviour after- resume without also changing it after bootup, so I'm quite baffled I get fed up by this issue every few months, and I try to find a workaround that works once and for all (unless something makes the xmodmap script working, that is)... but now I've spent too much time on this, I just hope that something/somebody will improve the situation in the next months -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/214786 Title: Apple USB ISO keyboard has incorrectly swapped keys To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mactel-support/+bug/214786/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Instead, I'm stumbling onto this problem on a old macbook3,1 with a physical button (synclient correctly reports the ClickPad set at 0) I'm not sure if this is an unintended consequence on old machine with a non-clickpad synaptic touchpad, or if this is expected if it's the latter, aside from documenting it on the wiki, I think that then the ClickFinger options should be removed, if truly the ClickPad changes makes them unusable ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.5.99.901-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-19.30-generic 3.2.11 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-19-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: wl ApportVersion: 1.94.1-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDmesg: [ 125.480542] init: plymouth-stop pre-start process (6216) terminated with status 1 Date: Wed Mar 21 13:06:06 2012 DistUpgraded: 2012-01-20 16:19:39,336 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: precise DistroVariant: ubuntu InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" - Release amd64+mac (20111012) MachineType: Apple Inc. [Bug 924468]
copypaste of my comment on the empathy bug at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=669169 """Ok, I used that build (made at commit 0dc2ba9ea63c7d7d7f46b4d4e8b9311dfad823bb ) and indeed the problem seems to be absent I can't remember how it worked before this bug, but it still seems it doesn't work perfectly: after networkmanager reconnects, empathy stays unconnected for quite a while, then throws an error (only for the facebook account), then successfully connects on its own (both to gtalk and facebook, don't know about bonjour)... after all of this, there's a spinner that keeps moving forever, suggesting that it's still trying to connect to something (thus wasting cpu cycles) manually disconneting in empathy and reconnecting fixes this""" -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/924468 Title: Empathy doesn't reconnect after wakeup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mission-control-5/+bug/924468/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
