[Bug 378390] Re: ssc-ffmpeg.so plugin fails to load

2009-06-11 Thread Dave Thiede
@scnaifeh: also have to say it is working for me. great reference for
package build and manipulation. I still find the debian package system
hard to deal with. rpm spec files are much clearer to me. where I have
it working is a 9.04-64bit virtual install. dropped some ogg files in
the appropriate place and it is working fine to my kids mac. somehow on
my native install of the same config, I have package breakage and
haven't got it going yet. the deb built on the virtual box does install
though. aptitude and apt-get seem to have a difference of opinion on
dependencies and broken packages.

The fixed package just got replaced on my main system by the update
manager thinking that mt-daap needed an upgrade. time to work on package
versioning.

@cirion. I didn't see the seg fault

[Bug 378390] Re: ssc-ffmpeg.so plugin fails to load

2009-05-28 Thread Dave Thiede
@scnaifeh: the ssc-script.so failure was present also in intrepid. I
don't really know what that affects. the ssc-ffmpeg plugin works though.
with jaunty, the ssc-ffmpeg fails to load giving the
avcodec_decode_audio as an undefined symbol. doing a bit of googling
indicates that that call was being deprecated some time back. it
apparently was dropped. I don't know enough about codec and ffmpeg to
do the necessary recoding.

I also can confirm that the ssc-ffmpeg plugin load also fails in a 32bit
virtualbox install so this problem is not confined to only 64bit as
might be inferred in my initial post.

[Bug 378390] [NEW] ssc-ffmpeg.so plugin fails to load

2009-05-19 Thread Dave Thiede
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mt-daapd

upgrading to jaunty from intrepid caused the ffmpeg plug into break. Performing
the final update/upgrade prior to the distribution upgrade shows the following
snippit in the mt-daapd log:

after the dist upgrade to 9.04 I got the following:

It would appear that either the plugin interface or the underlying
ffmpeg libraries have changed. Loading this plugin seems to be required
for streaming ogg and mpeg files to itunes and tivo respectively as both
services are now broken.

[Bug 343069] Re: Avahi causing mt-daap to segfault

2009-05-19 Thread Dave Thiede
jcornwall: I still haven't found a bug for my problem then. I tried your
amd64 package but got the following:

d...@quad:~$ sudo aptitude install mt-daapd_0.9~r1696.dfsg-9ubuntu1_amd64.deb

I then tried your instructions from comment 8 and couldn't get the
build-dep working.

d...@quad:~$ sudo apt-get build-dep mt-daapd
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Build-dependencies for mt-daapd could not be satisfied.

I made a stab at manually adding the packages and ran into several
dependency issues that were not reported normally but the apt tools. The
build then proceeded but had multiple errors such as the following:

dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: symbol avcodec_decode_audio used by debian/mt-
daapd/usr/lib/mt-daapd/plugins/ssc-ffmpeg.so found in none of the
libraries.

should I create a new bug for my problem? from the initial poster
documentation it is apparent that this same problem is present there
also. as far as I can tell, if the ffmpeg plugin doesn't load then any
files that require conversion (ogg at least) for itunes will fail. this
also seems to affect display of mpeg movies to a tivo. it could be that
the plugin failure is masking the real issue but I can't tell yet. the
program worked great just prior to the upgrade.

[Bug 252871] Re: kvm prevents running vmware player without rebooting

It would appear that this problem has persisted into the intrepid

was the easiest for now. unfortunately, the modules don't seem to be

2008-05-03 Thread Dave Thiede
update to previous post. I missed the "recommended packages: virtualbox-
ose-modules" lines while using apt-get. that seems to have resolved the
driver issue though I would expect that it should really be a dependency
and force the install. I still don't know where the -15 version of the
driver came from. I forgot check which package it came from before
cleaning it out.

[Bug 212217] Re: Kernel updates break VirtualBox support

2008-05-02 Thread Dave Thiede
I've never used vitualbox before so after the upgrade to hardy release
and vmware-server broke yet again I gave it a try. Unfortunately I can
confirm the problem with the kernel module version not tracking the
current kernel. I installed from the standard repo and it went well
until:

Unpacking libxalan110 (from .../libxalan110_1.10-3.1_amd64.deb) ...
Selecting previously deselected package virtualbox-ose.
Unpacking virtualbox-ose (from
.../virtualbox-ose_1.5.6-dfsg-6ubuntu1_amd64.deb) ...
Setting up libxalan110 (1.10-3.1) ...

Setting up virtualbox-ose (1.5.6-dfsg-6ubuntu1) ...
 * Starting VirtualBox host networking...[ OK ]
 * Starting VirtualBox kernel module vboxdrv
 * No suitable module for running kernel found.

Searching in /lib/modules for vboxdrv.ko finds
/lib/modules/2.6.20-15-generic/kernel/ubuntu/misc/vbox/vboxdrv.ko
and no others. unfortunately I have the release kernel...
 uname -a
Linux asus 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 12:47:45 UTC 2008 x86_64
GNU/Linux

so there is a mis-match on the binary builds for this package.

[Bug 225040] Re: gutsy upgrade didn't update third-party software list in software sources

2008-05-01 Thread Dave Thiede
I would agree with you that true "third-party" repositories should be
left alone as they would be added by the end user. however the urls that
I refer to are part of the standard repository tree complete with
distribution names and components and are placed there by either the
distribution initial install process or by the package setup scripts.

Another aspect of this is that there are now official Partner agreements
and the paths in the hardy distribution "third-party" tab reflect this
naming. Maybe a separate Partner tab maintained by upgrade scripts is
indicated?

[Bug 225040] [NEW] gutsy upgrade didn't update third-party software list in software sources

2008-04-30 Thread Dave Thiede
Public bug reported:

I was researching vmware-server update issue when I noted that the
third-party software list entries referred to feisty in the distribution
field. This was the version that I originally installed. subsequently I
upgraded to gutsy and now hardy.

I examined a fresh install of hardy on a virtual machine and see the
more expected references to hardy and the new term partner.

[Bug 218926] [NEW] firefox search bar is mostly non-functional

2008-04-17 Thread Dave Thiede
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

The search bar shows multiple search engines when using the drop down
box via the mouse. using the "manage search engines" dialog doesn't
show any in the list. the ok , cancel and restore default buttons don't
trigger any action. the close box on the dialog is the only way to close
the box. mouse over actions on the search button, text field and pick
list button are all inactive as is the "get more search engines".
pressing return in the text box also produces no action. This had been
working but I don't recall when it failed in relation to any upgrades or
other activities.

[Bug 132216] Re: invest-applet crashed with KeyError in populate()

2008-03-12 Thread Dave Thiede
The updates that applied this morning seems to have resolved the crash
issue. 2.22.0-0ubuntu1 published 10 March. Now that it is running I see
two minor issues. The stock symbols MUST be entered as upper case. That
can be worked around. The other is that the amounts can only be whole
numbers. The funds that I have are all purchased and sold in fractional
amounts. Otherwise nicely done!

[Bug 132216] Re: invest-applet crashed with KeyError in populate()

2008-03-11 Thread Dave Thiede
I can't seem to get this to work and show anything on 7.10 (patched as
of 2008.03.11) so I tried it on gutsy alpha 3? also just patched. This
time it crashed with this same crash reported last year by the original
author of this bug. I had just put a single stock in and added number of
shares, closed the add dialog and then tried to click on the viewer. not
sure when the crash triggered as it takes a while to pop up. it seems to
happen every time.

[Bug 173762] Re: displayconfig-gtk crashed with AttributeError in isXorgConfigChanged()

2008-03-10 Thread Dave Thiede
it is sort of fixed. my expectations would be that the fields would be
populated by a fixed package but as of last Wednesday's patches it
hadn't. even rebooting didn't cause the fields to fill in. I then
installed nightly iso build from wednesday (5 march 2008). this time the
fields were filled in and I was able to select screen resolutions and
monitors. much improved. I wouldn't say that the configuration tool is
solid though. that is probably for another bug posting.

Posted the previous too quickly. This bug does also includes the blank

better in that it checks its arguments better it still doesn't address
why the graphics devices and screens are not being populated. In my

enumerated.
