After trying to completely uninstall and reinstall all of the mysql

error by running `sudo touch /etc/mysql/my.cnf.fallback` which I
gathered because of the output from apt-get.

[Bug 694224] Re: Synchronous notifications briefly steal focus

2014-07-30 Thread David Baucum
This is generally problematic with day-to-day use of Ubuntu. For
example, if I'm typing out some code in vim, then the song changes,
Rhythmbox pops up a notification which steals focus. So I have to click
back in the terminal to continue typing.

Just to drive home the point, while I was typing this out a notification
popped up which halted my typing.

[Bug 1315369] Re: Log in not available after lock screen with multi-monitor

2014-06-11 Thread David Baucum
Added.

I added the kernel options and turned back on locking and turning off
the monitor. Hopefully when I come back from lunch the problem will
show. If so I will upload a new Xorg.0.log file.

[Bug 1315369] Re: Log in not available after lock screen with multi-monitor

2014-06-11 Thread David Baucum
I meant to add that my symptoms are 100% exactly like silbs, except that
my left monitor exhibits the behavior of her external monitor and my
right monitor exhibits the behavior of her laptop's screen.

[Bug 1315369] Re: Log in not available after lock screen with multi-monitor

2014-06-11 Thread David Baucum
In my setup I have two monitor plugged into my laptop's base station.
The graphics card will not support three monitors, so I only have the
two external monitors activated. When I came in this morning the
computer did not auto-lock or turn off the monitors and all was fine.

@3v1n0: There are many steps, do you mean the kernel arguments at grub?
I will enter those the next time I reboot.

[Bug 1315369] Re: Log in not available after lock screen with multi-monitor

2014-06-10 Thread David Baucum
I would just like to chime in that unlike silbs, this has become more
frequent for me. I have already rebooted my machine three times today.

Today I turned off allowing my machine to automatically lock or turn off
the screen. Hopefully that will stave off the problem until a fix is
issued.

[Bug 1319898] [NEW] Facebook chats duplicated

2014-05-15 Thread David Baucum
Public bug reported:

Whenever someone initiates a Facebook chat with me I get two
notifications of the chat request. In the chat window two separate chats
are created. No matter which chat-tab I reply two, the other person's
replies come back in both tabs.

I ran apt-get remove --purge empathy, and then reinstalled and then
reauthroized my accounts, but the problem persists.

I am running Ubuntu 14.04 with Empathy 3.8.6

[Bug 1249783] Re: Cannot restore buddy list if started "Hidden in background"

After upgrading from 12.04 to 14.04 I am running into this. I used to
have "empathy -h" in my startup applications, but now that destroys my
ability to use Empathy since if I start it with the -h flag it is not
possible to bring up the contacts list.

[Bug 1284466] Re: [Inspiron 1420, SigmaTel STAC9228, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2014-02-25 Thread David Baucum
If I plug a microphone into the mic jack then hda-jack-sense-test -a shows it
plugged in. e.g.:
david@fink:~/Downloads$ sudo hda-jack-sense-test -a
Sigmatel specific "Analog Loopback: 0x00" verb ignored for the moment
Pin 0x0a (Black HP Out): present = Yes
Pin 0x0b (Not connected): present = No

Pin 0x0e (Black Line In): present = Yes
Pin 0x0f (Black Line Out): present = No
Pin 0x10 (Not connected): present = No
Pin 0x11 (Not connected): present = No
Pin 0x12 (Not connected): present = No
Pin 0x13 (Internal Mic): present = No
Pin 0x14 (Not connected): present = No
Pin 0x21 (Black SPDIF Out): present = No
Pin 0x22 (Not connected): present = No

I am not sure why I am getting more output now than before. How can I
clear the misc bit?

2014-02-25 Thread David Baucum
It is like you said. No matter what the left headphone jack always
report to be plugged in. Here is output with nothing plugged into any
port.

david@fink:~$ sudo hda-jack-sense-test
Sigmatel specific "Analog Loopback: 0x00" verb ignored for the moment
Pin 0x0a (Black HP Out): present = Yes
Pin 0x0e (Black Line In): present = No
Pin 0x0f (Black Line Out): present = No
Pin 0x21 (Black SPDIF Out): present = No

All of the other jacks toggle on and off as the physical port is plugged
or unplugged.

remember, this had something to do with the detection of headphones not
working quite right.

[Bug 1284466] [NEW] [Inspiron 1420, SigmaTel STAC9228, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2014-02-24 Thread David Baucum
Public bug reported:

For a few years sound did not work on this laptop. Sometime during the
13.10 release cycle the problem was fixed in the kernel. Now in the
14.04 after a kernel update sound no longer works. I'm not 100% sure
which kernel update broke sound. I will try to install some of the older
kernels and track it down.

Alsa and PulseAudio both show that the sound is turned all the way up,
but no sound plays and the sound tests fail to make any noise too.

[Bug 1088287] Re: New upstream version w/ major updates/fixes

2013-08-27 Thread David Baucum
Is there any chance the 2.2.1 version will be included in Saucy? I have
been running this version and it has been very stable for me. Also, it
is the first version to include stable GTK3 support.

Attached is the results of what you requested from Joachim. I don't know
if my results are relevant to what you saw in his logs or not. Note that
I changed my google username in the output to misterlizardsquad, which
is not my real username. I also changed the values of the ClientSecrets.

[Bug 461631] Re: No sound

2013-08-14 Thread David Baucum
The 3.11 kernle hit Ubuntu 13.10 a couple days ago, but it was causing
all sorts of weirdness, like my sound devices where disappearing. I
updated today and I was just back to no playing. On a hunch I ran
alsamixer. All the settings looked fine, but just playing around I
turned off "Auto-Mute Mod" and now sound is working just fine.

[Bug 964339] Re: Can't Connect to MSN

2012-05-03 Thread David Baucum
Is this reproducible now ?
Yes.

If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
attach the haze (msn) log file with the bug report ?
This will help us to find and resolve the problem.
Open up online accounts and add your Windows Live account. Next open Empathy.
The "Windows Live (MSN)" connection will fail saying "Disconnected - Network
Error"

It is probably important to note that if you click "Edit Connection
Parameters" it brings up the exact same connection configuration options
as a jabber account, with everything at its default settings that you
get when setting up a jabber account. The username is set to
"messenger.live.com" and the password is blank with "Remember password"
unchecked.

[Bug 988906] [NEW] Memory Usage is exceptionally high

2012-04-26 Thread David Baucum
Public bug reported:

When I start Empathy it uses over 300MB of RAM. When I open a chat window,
that window also uses over 300MB of RAM. This puts Empathy at over half a gig
of usage just on load.
I just updated to 12.04 from 11.10. The problem started immediately after the
update.
I have a Facebook account, two Yahoo accounts, a GTalk account, an MSN account
and an AIM account configured.

[Bug 934062] Re: "Keyboard Shortcuts" overlay can cause annoyance

2012-04-02 Thread David Baucum
@Nicky: It's the same for me. +up to maximize a window,
again to make the Keyboard Shortcuts screen go away, and then a
third time to make the dash go away. For annoying, and practically
makes keyboard shortcuts unusable. This is hands down the worst bug in
12.04 presently for me.
