[Bug 1927660] [NEW] Update from 18.04 to 20.04 fails to calculate
Public bug reported: Have successfully performed this update with similar extra software installed, and can't narrow it down to what software is blocking things. Other bug reports talk about various other packages, many of which I've tried removing with no improvement. "apt-get purge libpython-stdlib" seems like an overreaction, and I'm hoping it's a misdirected diagnosis. So given that this bug has been confirmed, found to be a bug in the kernel code, and a patch created for it... is it possible to get this bug moved to the Kernel, and generally find out if there's a timeline for the patch being ported to the usual set of kernels? It would be nice to have full functionality of my computer at some point before it needs replacing from old age. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1528735 Title: Suspend fails every second time on some laptops in UEFI mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pm-utils/+bug/1528735/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1528735] Re: Suspend fails every second time on some laptops in UEFI mode
Leading up to the suspend, I don't think the OS can tell that there's anything different... Or else if it can it's not looking for it. Afterwards it's not getting as far as the kernel before UEFI kills it, at which point the kernel can only tell that it was rebooted while in a suspended state. All I have seen in the logs is a normal "suspending" set of messages. Maybe there's a kernel flag to turn on verbose ACPI logging?
There are no logs. [Bug 1528735] Re: Suspend reboots every second time on Lenovo G50-45
Just updated to 4.2.0-27-generic #32~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP, and this is still an issue. This may not actually be directly related to pm-suspend, but I put it here for lack of a better proximate cause. This may need to be transferred to be a kernel bug. I suspect it may be related to a reaction to http://www.intelsecurity.com/advanced-threat- research/content/WP_Intel_ATR_S3_ResBS_Vuln.pdf It can be reproduced by putting Ubuntu of just about any recent version onto a Lenovo G50-45, and suspending it twice. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1528735 Title: Suspend reboots every second time on Lenovo G50-45 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pm-utils/+bug/1528735/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1528735] [NEW] Suspend reboots every second time on Lenovo G50-45
Public bug reported: Fresh install of Xubuntu 14.04.3, replacing existing OEM Windows 10. Install detected UEFI, and installed in UEFI mode. (I have attempted to change to legacy boot, and got it to a state where it was booting without /sys/firmware/efi/ being present, but behaviour persisted.) Suspending the laptop, whether by closing the lid, choosing the suspend option from the menu, or directly typing "sudo pm-suspend" works perfectly well... once. The second attempt to suspend, whether immediately or hours later, suspends the laptop (I can see the screen turn off, and hear the disk and fans stop, but a moment later the screen shows bright yellow console text declaring "Warning!!! Boot script table modified!!! Please contact your vendor.", and then it hard reboots. This appears to be a weird interaction between suspend and UEFI protection, but others have reported that they have had working suspend when installed alone (and presumably in legacy from the start), but this behaviour appeared when reinstalled as dual-boot (when presumably UEFI would have had to be on). (http://askubuntu.com/questions/675683 /suspend-does-not-work-more-than-once-after-reboot-ubuntu-15-04-dual- boot/712232 and earlier http://askubuntu.com/questions/651481/boot- script-table-modified-please-contact-vendor, from different people.) Beyond the investigations I have done, I know next to nothing about UEFI, or how Suspend might be interacting with it. Much less why it appears to work perfectly exactly once. [Bug 1155443] Re: RTL8192se kernel driver unstable in low power mode
Compaq Presario CQ62-227TU I since upgraded to 12.04.2, but the kernels in that line are still showing this behaviour. (Last one checked: 3.2.0-51.77) I still have the 3.9.0-030900rc2 generic kernel installed from earlier testing, and the wireless connectivity does work under this kernel. [Bug 1155443] [NEW] RTL8192se kernel driver unstable in low power mode
Public bug reported: Behaviour noticed immediately after kernel upgrade from 3.0.0-31 to 32. When laptop is connected to power, all is as it should be. When laptop is disconnected from mains, and running on battery, the wireless will continue working for a while (less than a minute), then drop out and Network Manager will attempt to reconnect to the WLAN. It will fail (timing out) forever until Network manager gives up. No indication or cause of failure is given in any logs, or in dmesg. When the module has failed, then running "sudo rmmod rtl8192se rtlwifi mac80211 cfg80211 && sudo modprobe rtl8192se" in a terminal will re- enable wireless, but it will inevitably drop out again just as it did before. Reconnecting mains power will also restore stability. (That is, if the wireless has failed, reattaching mains power will not of itself restore it, but if the kernel module is rmmod/modprobe-d back in, it will remain working correctly, and not drop out again so long as it is on mains power.) I have since checked under 3.0.0.31 again, and this problem does not occur. It looks like the rtl8192se module is unstable when the Power Management settings are on battery mode in this kernel version.
