The problem is that phpmyadmin does not add mysql server packages when
installing it without first having mysql server installed. I had assume
that it would and the default configuration method assumes a localhost

[Bug 1515836] [NEW] What ever program using libmyodbc crashes

2015-11-12 Thread Paul David Johnson
Public bug reported:

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 15.10 (64bit) and found that the ODBC driver for
MySQL crashes every time it is used - crashing the program calling it in the
process. I have the following error in syslog
trap divide error ip:7fe0d919f70a sp:766035f0 error:0 in
libmyodbc.so[7fe0d9172000+3b000]
The crash occurs with isql and LibreOffice.
The problem was solved by using the binary for debian provided by Oracle on the
MySQL website - so libmysql5a.so/libmysql5w.so both works correctly with no
problems

I love it when people fix their own bugs, good work :-)

Let's give upstream a few days to see if they'll make a new release
incorporating your fix, if one isn't forthcoming I'll do a new Debian
release.

[Bug 559883] Re: lucid beta-2 X crashes with dual head configuration when opengl is enabled with intel GM945

2010-04-27 Thread Paul David Johnson
You need to turn off composition before running kde System Settings
Display and setting to dual monitor - anything but clone or off. In
Karmic - composition disabled itself when switching to dual monitor and
could not be re-enabled until you log out and in again. In Lucid, X
crashes. But if you disable composition for opengl before going to dual
monitor, it works. This time, when you exit dual monitor (return to
clone), then enable composition, it works

I have a similar system: a intel GM945 based desktop system but with a
DVI and a VGA port instead.

[Bug 500151] Re: Ubuntu lucid amd64: isomaster *** buffer overflow detected ***: isomaster terminated

2010-02-28 Thread David Johnson
Many thanks for testing the fix and reporting back.

I'm discussing with Andrew (upstream) whether he'll do a new isomaster
release including the fix or whether I'll do a new Debian/Ubuntu package
of 1.3.7 with the patch.

Either way, we should have a fix in Ubuntu soon.

[Bug 118847] Re: kvpnc and openvpn doesn't work with dash

2007-10-22 Thread Paul David Johnson
It is a problem only with gutsy as the new version of kvpnc uses bash
instructions in it connection script.
Two solutions:
1) switch /bin/sh to point to bash -
 sudo rm /bin/sh
 sudo ln -s /bin/bash /bin/sh
But this really slow down one of my older machines - especially openoffice.
2) Stop using kvpnc for OpenVPN connections - instead add the Network Manager
add-on - network-manager-openvpn

[Bug 117580] Re: Wireless gone at upgrade to kernel 2.6.20-16-generic

I am able to confirm what Adam Ambrose said. On my machine - the

I removed my symlink (see above - I had a symbolic link to fix my wireless
access) and installed the restricted module. There is now a

[Bug 117580] Re: Wireless gone at upgrade to kernel 2.6.20-26-generic

2007-05-29 Thread Paul David Johnson
The same thing happen to me when Kubuntu upgraded from 2.6.20-15 to 2.6.20-16.
I discovered what the problem was - it seems that a new version of the
ipw3945d-* executable was not installed in /sbin during the kernel upgrade. The
new kernel was looking for ipw3945d-2.6.20-16-generic but only
ipw3945d-2.6.20-15-generic was available.
When I added a soft link -
ln -s ipw3945d-2.6.20-16-generic ipw3945d.2.6.20-15-generic

2007-05-15 Thread Paul David Johnson
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Feisty, I was unable to sync. After doing some research, I
reset the pilot device to usb: and this allows me to sync properly.
The problem is that KPilotDaemon now is in a hung state whenever the Tungsten

configuration, I need to run a sync and get to the configuration page before
the sync ends. At the ending of the sync, the hung state begin again

[Bug 79531] kde-guidance-powermanager icon transparency issues

2007-01-16 Thread David Johnson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-guidance

There is an issue with the kde-guidance-powermanager icons which can
make it impossible to see the charge level when the battery is
discharging, the panel the icon is on is transparent and the desktop
background is dark.

Unlike the charging-* icons the discharging-* icons have the background
of the battery set as transparent, which makes it very difficult to see
the black bars denoting charge level when the panel is transparent and
the background is dark - it looks like the battery is fully charged all
the time.

Setting the background of the battery in the discharging-* images to
white (as it is in the charging-* icons) instead of transparent will fix
the issue.

It would also be nice if the colour of the power icon next to the
charging-* images could be made to stand out more, since it is also
difficult to see against a dark background.

Yes indeed. When I powered on the system the battery was fully charged
and this was being shown correctly. I grabbed the lshal output when the
battery was at 58% and discharging, with the systray icon still showing

Re-connecting AC power caused the icon to be updated and show the
correct charge level and the level updated correctly as the battery was

[Bug 77368] powernowd init script breaks with new kernels

2007-01-03 Thread David Johnson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: powernowd

Using recent kernels (I'm testing with 2.6.20-rc2-mm1) with powernowd in
Edgy causes the init script to die due to the presence of a previously
non-existing node in the /sys/devices/system/cpu/ directory (it makes
the assumption that the only objects in this directory are directories
for each CPU in the system).

A simple fix is required to the init script which I will attach as a
patch. This fix is fully backwards-compatible with older kernels but
will also allow the use of cutting-edge kernels.

2006-12-05 Thread David Johnson
Public bug reported:

I have a dual-core Centrino laptop. Kubuntu sets the cpufreq governor
for both cores to ondemand by default, which is what i want. However
after a suspend (or hibernate) and resume, the governor for the second
core gets changed to performance. The first core continues using
ondemand as it should.

[Bug 74373] kde-guidance-powermanager: cpufreq governors change after suspend

2006-12-04 Thread David Johnson
Public bug reported:

I have a dual-core Intel Centrino processor. By default, Kubuntu sets
the governors for each core to ondemand, which is what I want.

However when I suspend the laptop and resume, the governor for the
second core always gets set to performance. The first core continues
using ondemand as it should.

I'm not sure whether the problem is actually in kde-guidance-
powermanager or somewhere else, but this seems like a sensible place to
report it...

[Bug 64978] Re: powermanager icon sometimes shows fully charged when not

2006-12-04 Thread David Johnson
I'm also seeing the same behaviour. Specifically, the power level shown
on the systray icon doesn't always update as the battery discharges. A
power event (connecting/disconnecting AC power) causes the power level
to be updated to the correct level.

Let me know if you'd like me to provide anything and/or do some
debugging.

[Bug 45002] Re: The gconf daemon takes upto one minute to exit

2006-08-17 Thread David Johnson
I've now got a workaround:

Append '-l' to the umount command in /etc/security/pam_mount.conf. That
causes umount to remove the volume from the filesystem immediately and
unmount it properly when it is no longer busy (i.e. gconfd exits).

[Bug 45002] Re: The gconf daemon takes upto one minute to exit

2006-08-09 Thread David Johnson
I should say that this doesn't just apply to SMB mounted home
directories as my previous comment implies - it will equally affect the
unmounting of any type of partition/network share.

[Bug 45002] Re: The gconf daemon takes upto one minute to exit

2006-08-09 Thread David Johnson
I can confirm this bug. I'm running an up-to-date Dapper install on
i386.

The problem is that gconfd takes around 10 seconds to exit once the
Gnome session has ended. This means that the files used by gconfd in the
user's SMB-mounted home directory are still in use when pam_mount goes
to unmount the share so unmounting fails. As far as I can tell,
pam_mount has no ability to retry later meaning that the share is never
unmounted.

[Bug 55484] Please compile KDE bluetooth framework with lrmc

2006-08-07 Thread David Johnson
Public bug reported:

The KDE bluetooth framework needs to be compiled with the
'irmcsynckonnector' option to allow kitchensync to integrate with
Kontact for calendar synchronisation with mobile phones.

If it is compiled with this option, an 'ImrcSync Connector' is available
in the Kitchensync Konnectors configuration under:

Settings -> Configure Kitchensync -> Resources -> KitchenSync Konnectors
-> Add

I'm running an up-to-date Dapper install on i386.

[Bug 30412] Re: kbluetoothd tray icon never appears

2006-08-07 Thread David Johnson
I had this problem but after killing and restarting kbluetoothd a few
times the panel icon appeared.

There is an command line option, '--dontforceshow', which is supposed to
show the icon even if it is disabled, but I haven't tried it.
