[Bug 470606] [NEW] Workrave sound events should be tagged as such for Pulseaudio

2009-11-02 Thread David Kågedal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: workrave

The bees and noises that workrave produces should be classified as
"sound event" and fall under the same category as the system events in
PulseAudio. This will avoid making the sounds too lout, for instance.

This means that they should be marked with media.role=event, which is
really simple:

http://pulseaudio.org/wiki/ApplicationProperties

It can even be done in a wrapper setting the environment variable
PULSE_PROP='media.role=event', or perhaps PULSE_PROP_media_role=event
(I've seen both)

If workrave used libcanberra, it would be solved automatically.

[Bug 77010] Re: Overuse of system beep without volume control

2009-10-23 Thread David Kågedal
My problem seems pulseaudio-related. Unfortunately, every time I try to
go to the pulseaudio package in lauchpad, all I get is an error page
saying that launchpad is having problems.

Today I first resumed the laptop on the train and it worked fine with
the themed beep using the module-x11-bell configuration in PA that was
active before suspend.

But when I got to work and resumed again (now connected to an external
keyboard and screen) something went wrong in PA again. It started
beeplooping the sample, and when I triggered a new beep I got the
dreaded system beep. And I see this in syslog:

Oct 23 10:48:15 krank pulseaudio[2700]: ratelimit.c: 89 events suppressed
Oct 23 10:48:20 krank pulseaudio[2700]: ratelimit.c: 245 events suppressed
Oct 23 10:48:25 krank pulseaudio[2700]: ratelimit.c: 213 events suppressed
Oct 23 10:48:30 krank pulseaudio[2700]: ratelimit.c: 214 events suppressed
Oct 23 10:48:38 krank pulseaudio[2700]: ratelimit.c: 159 events suppressed

I would report this on pulseaudio if Launchpad let me...

[Bug 77010] Re: Overuse of system beep without volume control

2009-10-22 Thread David Kågedal
I know have the pcspkr blacklisted in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
(automatically, I didn't add it myself), and I don't have the pcspkr
module loaded. But, after a suspend/resume cycle I still get the system
beep!

So, apparently the system beep works even without the pcspkr module.

This is after manually running

$ pactl load-module module-x11-bell sample=bell.ogg

to get the PulseAudio bell sound working.

What seems to happen is that after unloading and reloading the PA
module, the system beep stops and the PA beep takes over. After
suspending my laptop and resuming again, something strange happens. When
I press ctrl-G in a termal (for example) I hear the system beep again,
but I also hear the PA beep. And I don't hear it only once. The PA beep
goes into an endless repeat loop.

To stop PA from repeating the beep, I can simply start pavucontrol (just
starting it is enough).

To get rid of the system beep I have to use "pactl unload-module" and
then "pactl load-module" as above.

So my particular problem is probably related to pulseaudio.

[Bug 301174] Re: Use proper sound event instead of system beep

2009-10-20 Thread David Kågedal
This is the solution to make pulseaudio produce a themed beep instead of
the system beep:

$ pactl load-module module-x11-bell sample=bell.ogg

I haven't had to do this manually before, but something broke in my
Karmic installation a week ago or so. I have no idea whose
responsibility it normally is to get this information into PA.

[Bug 450481] [NEW] Function keys are no longer available

2009-10-13 Thread David Kågedal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev

In a recent update (this morning or yesterday or so) somthing changed in
my karmic system so that the F9, F10, F11 and F12 keys no longer are F9,
F10, F11 and F12. Instead they suddenly produce XF86AudioMute,
XF86AudioLowerVolume, XF86AudioRaiseVolume and XF86Eject.

I don't know why this happened, and it is very annoying, since I had
bound things to those function keys, both in Emacs and in the Keyboard
Shortcuts preferences, and in Gnome Do.

I guess package here, perhaps the problem is at the XKB level or so. I'm
not an expert on these things.

My laptop keyboard has separate volume buttons, and they work as
expected.

Please make F10 F10 again.

[Bug 439361] [NEW] Control-backslash gets transformed to an apostrophe

2009-09-30 Thread David Kågedal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

My terminal settings (which I believe are the default) makes ^\ send a
"quit" signal to the front process, just as ^C sends "intr" etc. This
means that I can kill any hung program with control-backslash when
running in e g xterm.

But in gnome-terminal, it doesn't work. It seems to simply insert a
single quote instead. This makes it much less useful.

Here is the output from stty -a:

That bug is not public, so I can't see it.

I think that the apport retracing service should never mark bugs as
duplicates of private bugs, since it makes it impossible for the
reporter (me) to follow the progress.

crashes and restarts. I attached a gdb to it and got this backtrace:

I am running with AccelMethod uxa and I have also SKIP_CHECKS=yes in
.config/compiz/compiz-manager to enable compiz. I will try without them,
but I'm pretty sure that at least compiz has nothing to do with the
problem.

I get this problem in Jaunty now. I got it in Intrepid, and Hardy as

hoping that I could run compiz.

[Bug 89222] Re: compiz only refreshes part of desktop/root window width, leaves ghosts in remaining area

2009-04-29 Thread David Kågedal
No, this is not an invaliid report. I also have this problem. My X3100
works perfectly fine, and when I attach a 1600x1050 screen to the right
of my 1920x1200 laptop screen I get garbage on most of the right screen.
The maximum window size seems to be 2048 pixels, and the same goes for
the background image, which means that windows places there leaves
trails.

There is nothing wrong with X or the graphics driver. So I see no reason
why compiz can create garbage and then claim that its my fault that I
get the garbage.

[Bug 290644] Re: Second keyboard layout can't be selected after suspend

2009-04-08 Thread David Kågedal
Here are my logs from a freshly booted system.

I started my laptop and logged in to my Gnome desktop and ran

  krank% lspci -vvnn > 1-lspci.log
  krank% cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log > 1-xorg.log

Then I inplugged the USB keyboard. This left the keyboard layout
switcher fully functioning. I created the 2-lspci.log and 2-xorg.log at
this stage.

Then I replugged the USB keyboard. This made the layout switcher stop
working. It only shows "USA", which was the one I was using when
unplugging.

The logs after this are 3-lspci.log and 3-xorg.log.

[Bug 338314] [NEW] delicious plugin crashes

2009-03-05 Thread David Kågedal
Public bug reported:

My gnome-do started crashing a couple of days ago, and this is what it
prints when crashing:

Unhandled Exception: System.Xml.XmlException: Document element did not appear.

Maybe delicious change their format or something, but the plugin should
handle that failure gracefully.

[Bug 290644] [NEW] Second keyboard layout can't be selected after suspend

2008-10-29 Thread David Kågedal
Public bug reported:

I primarily use the US keyboard layout, but I have added the Swedish
layout as well in Keyboard Preferences. The first problem I notice is
that, in the "Default" column, I can't select any of the two layouts as
default.

The more important problem is that everytime I take out my laptop from
my bag and plug it at work or at home (with a USB keyboard), the Swedish
layout is no longer selectable. It still appears in the "Keyboard
Preferences" list, but clicking on the Keyboard Indicator applet or the
hotkey will not change layout.

Then I have to manually remove the Swedish layout and readd it again and
everything works again.

[Bug 190749] [NEW] Illegal instruction in firefox

2008-02-10 Thread David Kågedal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I recently upgraded to 2.0.0.12+2nobinonly+2-0ubuntu0.7.10 and now I
can't even start firefox anymore. I tried removing ~/.mozilla, but it
didn't help.

I'm running gutsy, with everything up-to-date.

What happens is that it runs an illegal instruction and crashes. If I
run "firefox -g", this is what gdb tells me:

Program received signal SIGILL, Illegal instruction.

[Bug 83137] Re: pulseaudio not in group pulse-rt

But who is writing this?

I'm running a system-wide pulseaudio instance, and when I started

I don't see how the pulseadio process would print this. And anyway, the
"pulse" user is in "pulse-rt" on my system:

uid=113(pulse) gid=121(pulse) groups=121(pulse),29(audio),123(pulse-rt)

2007-10-12 Thread David Kågedal
Here is the syslog. I wait at least 10 s between each step.

One interesting thing that happen when I tried this was that I got the
small usb-storage disk mounted. This hasn't happened before that I
noticed. But the log is from a later attempt where this didn't happen.
The reason probably being that I explicitly unloaded usb-storage first.

[Bug 105545] Re: HUAWEI E220 no longer works in Feisty

2007-10-11 Thread David Kågedal
I have a E220 that I used with some success on my old laptop (hp nx7010)
running feisty. I just had to reload the "option" module with some care
and it worked. The sign that it worked was that I got three /dev/ttyUSB
devices.

Recently, I upgraded to a new laptop (dell D830) and installed gutsy.
But I cannot get the E220 to work. The log says it discovers a GSM
modem, and I get a /dev/ttyUSB0, but no more. My old wvdial script won't
work.

[Bug 67680] Re: multiple cups-polld running simultaneously

2006-12-08 Thread David Kågedal
See bug #30965 for more infor about the 100% usage, and some notes about
the lingering cups-polld processes.

I get 100% CPU usage without patching anything, I only have to enable
BrowsePoll.

Maybe the reason for the 100% CPU usage is that it can't connect
properly to the spawned cups-polld, because of socket permissions (just
guessing here). This could explain why it's spinning in select().

get. If I remove the line and restart, it goes back to normal.

The server pointed to by the BrowsePoll line works fine, which I
verified by running "CUPS_SERVER= lpstat -a".

Also, when I stop cups, I get a "cups-polld" run by root that doesn't
go away. Why does that process have to run as root.

stracing shows that cupsd is doing a lot of select(). The cups-polld
seems to be actually talking to the other server.

This is the output of "dpkg -l cups\*"

[Bug 44570] Re: Malformatting in notification

2006-11-28 Thread David Kågedal
I tried the test script again, after upgrading to Edgy, and I no longer
see any problem.

[Bug 37143] Re: The 'start automaticaly' checkbox does nothing in 'Search Preferences'

2006-11-28 Thread David Kågedal
I'm not convinced by your solutions. A user that has installed Ubuntu
and gets annoyed that something is spending a lot of time to index his
files needs a configuration option to turn off indexing. He doesn't
want to look at some session manager with lots of obscure stuff, and he
shouldn't have to uninstall parts of the desktop.

Anyway. If I select "Search" from the "Places" menu (Edgy), I get a
search window in which I can select Search=>Preferences and also end up
in the non-functional preference pane where I cannot disable indexing
although it claims so.

[Bug 47371] Re: [fglrx and Radeon 9200] Can't start openoffice or blender after update to dapper

2006-08-21 Thread David Kågedal
This is supposedly fixed in later drivers (8.27.10 at least).

http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=373#c25

Can we expect an updated dapper deb?
