[Bug 575393] [NEW] ati dual head high resolution
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: x11-xserver-utils xrandr does not detect that it can do dual 1680x1050 for office tasks on my ATI video card. It normally sees VGA-1 as being limited to 1360x768. I can get both screns to a higher resolution using this command : xrandr --addmode VGA-1 1680x1050 xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1680x1050 xrandr --output VGA-1 --mode 1680x1050 xrandr --output VGA-1 --left-of VGA-0 Although Video does not work well on the right screen at this resolution, normal office tasks ( spreadsheet, firefox, terminal, solitaire etc... ) all work very well. Therefore I believe that a bug exists in the detection of supported resolutions on my video card. This applies to Lucid Lynx. Any earlier Ubuntu can not handle the above resolutions on my video cards. It would be nice if you fixed the resolution detection. 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AR [Radeon 9600] Subsystem: ATI Technologies Inc Device 4772 Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 16 Memory at e800 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] I/O ports at a800 [size=256] Memory at fe9f (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] Expansion ROM at fe9c [disabled] [size=128K] Capabilities: Kernel driver in use: radeon Kernel modules: radeonfb, radeon 01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AR [Radeon 9600] (Secondary) Subsystem: ATI Technologies Inc Device 4773 Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 64 Memory at e000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] Memory at fe9e (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] Capabilities: ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: x11-xserver-utils 7.5+1ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-21.32-generic-pae 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-21-generic-pae i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Tue May 4 16:20:58 2010 DkmsStatus: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release i386 (20100429) MachineType: HP Pavilion 061 D7222E-ABA A350Y ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-21-generic-pae root=UUID=9ec251d7-f543-46e6-aaab-b78faf6ab37e ro quiet splash ProcEnviron: LANG=en_CA.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: x11-xserver-utils dmi.bios.date: 04/27/2004 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: 3.25 dmi.board.name: Stingray dmi.board.vendor: ASUSTeK Computer INC. dmi.board.version: 1.xx dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Asset-1234567890 dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: Chassis Manufacture dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr3.25:bd04/27/2004:svnHPPavilion061:pnD7222E-ABAA350Y:pvr03p1211RE101STING10:rvnASUSTeKComputerINC.:rnStingray:rvr1.xx:cvnChassisManufacture:ct3:cvrChassisVersion: dmi.product.name: D7222E-ABA A350Y dmi.product.version: 03p1211RE101STING10 dmi.sys.vendor: HP Pavilion 061 glxinfo: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory system: distro: Ubuntu codename: lucid architecture: i686 kernel: 2.6.32-21-generic-pae ** Affects: x11-xserver-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 lucid -- ati dual head high resolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575393 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 575388] [NEW] screen focus incorrect when switching windows
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: metacity I am running dual head 1680x1050 on each of the two screens. xrandr --addmode VGA-1 1680x1050 xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1680x1050 xrandr --output VGA-1 --mode 1680x1050 xrandr --output VGA-1 --left-of VGA-0 Steps to reproduce bug : 1. Open two windows 2. Position one window to the left screen 3. Position second window to the right screen 4. Windows should be unmaximized 5. Maximize the window on the right screen ( double click on blue bar ) 6. Unmaximize the window on the right screen ( double click ) 7. Drag window on left screen ( click and hold left button once on blue bar ) What should happen : The window on the left screen should move around What actually happens : The cursor moves the window on the right screen, so the window moves around without the cursor being anywhere near it. I can consistently reproduce this bug, I have had this bug since I first install Alpha 2 Lucid. I have fresh installed the Stable release that came out on April 29th. The bug is still present. Notes : 1. I am using the Clearlooks theme ( blue/gray + control buttons to the top right of window ) 2. Visual effects were turned off using "Appearance Preferences" => "Visual Effects" => "None" 3. This sometimes happens on my laptop which has a single screen 1024x768, I will try and provide steps to reproduce on single screen as soon as I can 4. The ATI dual head card does not seem to recognize my card can do dual 1680x1050, so I have used this command "xrandr --addmode VGA-1 1680x1050". As long as I don't play video on the right side of the right screen, it works well. I don't play games , so I do not know if 3D works. [Bug 254752] Re: Dual boot Ubuntus cause out of date grub/menu.lst
This is in fact NOT a duplicate issue. The issue I have raised is when dual booting different versions of ubuntu, each version creates it's own /boot directory + contents, and the MBR usually points to the OS that was installed second. When the first OS has an upgrade, it updates /boot/menu.lst on it's own partition and does not appear in Grub because Grub points to the second partition. I do not know if this is a bug or wish list, but perhaps when installing a second version of ubuntu on the same machine it should offer to reuse /boot of the first installation ? -- Dual boot Ubuntus cause out of date grub/menu.lst https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254752 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Obviously apt is calculating the disk space, but I believe the problem is that it ignores the fact that while the packages are installing, we are using disk space for both the packages AND the extracted files. When calculating disk space, you must remember : 1. Size of packages ( that seems fine ) 2. Total size of installation ( not calculated as a different to the downloaded package ) 3. Any temporary files to be created 4. Space for both versions of a package during an upgrade. Once this is done, it is important to verify that there is enough space. What do you think? [Bug 329229] Re: Touchpad on HP Compaq nx7010 does not work
The bug I am having is with a harddisk installed version of Jaunty ( from the latest alpha available, not nightly). ** Changed in: x11proto-input (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: casper => x11proto-input ** Description changed: Binary package hint: casper - While running Jaunty off a flash device (Live environment) the touchpad - does not work. I tried dmesg and found this: + While running Jaunty off a flash device (Live environment)/Live + CD/Harddisk the touchpad does not work. I tried dmesg and found this: $ dmesg | grep Tou [ 52.315920] Synaptics Touchpad, model: 1, fw: 5.9, id: 0x236eb3, caps: 0x904713/0x10008 [ 52.375802] input: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad as /devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input7 so it's obviously found. It has never had any problems in ubuntu including intrepid. If you need more info, please let me know. Edit: When I connect a usb mouse it works instantly, but the touchpaad remains dead. I have tried disabling and enabling the device several times with a dedicated button, to no avail -- Touchpad on HP Compaq nx7010 does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/329229 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I tried to take the lines from Xorg.conf from 8.04 that are related to my mouse and add them to Jaunty's xorg.conf.
