I have already commented that this is not a duplicate of 837993, please say why you disagree before you just mark it as such. 837993 is "Where the average background colour is either very light or dark, adjust this value to darken/lighten in order to preserve readability" That bug refers to the brightness of the colour making text difficult to read. A fix for this bug would NOT be to touch the colour, as in THIS bug, but to change the brightness settings. THIS bug is "Dash doesn't always auto-pick the best colour, add disable/pick colour option to CCSM" This refers to that the colour being picked from the wallpaper is not always appropriate and the best visually appealing complimenting colour for the Dash to use. It has NOTHING to do with the problem of readability of text and the bug fix would be different. [Bug 825146] Re: [Oneiric] The BFB needs to be restored
** Description changed: The removal of the Ubuntu Dash button in the panel (newer builds) is a regression in both looks and functionality for several reasons. Beginning with aesthetics, the Circle of Friends is the Ubuntu logo, it's the visual identity of the Operating system and only having it on view when the Launcher is visible is foolish. We also have the advantage of most new users already being used to clicking on a logo to get to a 'menu'. In terms of functionality, having to make the Launcher appear in order to open Dash with a mouse is less efficient than being able to move straight to an already visible logo and click on it. Additionally, having the Dash button in the Launcher clutters the application list and could cause new users to confuse it with another application. [Bug 837993] Re: Where the average background colour is either very light or dark, adjust this value to darken/lighten in order to preserve readability
Could an option just be added to CCSM to turn off the chameleonic feature of Dash? As cool as it changing colour to match the background image is, not everyone wants their, say, green background to force them to have a green launcher and Dash. The best way to please everyone is to offer the choice, so that there is an option in CCSM to make the Dash and Launcher one colour again, black like it was in Natty. This would solve all usability issues in this bug. It could even go one step further, allow the user to choose the colour manually in CCSM! Imagine, a mostly black wallpaper with a bit of green in it and the user could make the Dash and Launcher green as well, despite it not being the majority colour of the wallpaper. Public bug reported: As said in the title, middle clicking on an item in the launcher doesn't launch a second instance of that item anymore. For example, if you have Terminal open already, middle clicking on the Terminal icon will not launch a second window. [Bug 822999] [NEW] [Oneiric] Changing system/theme fonts and/or sizes doesn't change the desktop file/folder fonts and/or sizes
Public bug reported: To reproduce, install gnome-tweak-tool and change your system fonts and font sizes on each tab. Relog or restart to let the changes take complete effect (I've noticed the titlebars don't change immediately). You'll find every application uses the new font settings as you would expect, however for some strange reason files and folders on the desktop do not. The Examples Folder and Install Ubuntu 11.10 shortcut on my desktop both use the Ubuntu font and the original font size. I've attached a screenshot to illustrate better. [Bug 822993] [NEW] [Oneiric] Applying Permissions to enclosed files in Nautilus' Folder Properties window doesn't work
Public bug reported: To reproduce, gksudo nautilus to get root permissions, find a folder with files inside. Click the 'Apply perms to enclosed files' option and then close the window. [Bug 822986] [NEW] [Oneiric] No cursor theme
Public bug reported: For some reason, in every daily build and alpha I've tested, the cursor has been unthemed, instead using an old style black look that is quite unlike the DMZ themes. After installing the Gnome Tweak Tool, I found I could change the cursor scheme to handhelds, whiteglass or redglass (and when doing this, the black cursor remained most of the time, changing only to the cursor I'd chosen when over the Firefox window) but DMZ White and Black were nowhere to be seen. [Bug 806636] Re: [Oneiric] Compiz fails to update window title until focused window is changed unless window is maximized
This problem also existed in Natty, but only when using the proprietary FGLX driver and a theme other than Radiance or Ambiance. It's as if the window decorations of unmaximized windows are 'frozen', unchanging unless forced to with a window resize. When using the Radiance or Ambiance theme, the window decorations would update fine, unless the window was not in focus, in which case mouse- overing the window controls would not highlight them and the window title would not change until the window was again in focus. The problem existed for Natty in both compiz-decorator and gtk-window- decorator, but not metacity when using the classic desktop. In addition, this problem was solved for me by downgrading to a pre-Unity compiz version, leading me to believe the problem is somewhere inside compiz itself. Now, the problem isn't just in the proprietary driver and even occurs when using the default opensource one present in Oneiric. Has that driver changed at all or has Compiz changed in the way it interacts with it? Could this be a kernel or xorg issue? It's a major issue for most people using ATI graphics for the window decorations not to work as expected. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/806636 Title: [Oneiric] Compiz fails to update window title until focused window is changed unless window is maximized To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/806636/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 770283] Re: [fglrx]title bar does not update on non-maximized windows
I have the same issue, though I'm completely unaffected in classic desktop, implying metacity is not at fault in most cases. I agree that the problem is with Compiz-decorator, it's also present in gtk-window-decorator, but only when using the proprietary fglx dirver. If you change your theme to anything that isn't Ambiance or Radiance, the problem is made worse, affecting focussed windows as well. It's as if the entire window decoration is frozen, not updating for any reason unless forced through a resize. However, in Oneiric, this problem now exists from the very start with the open source driver and affects both Radiance and Ambiance. >.< -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/770283 Title: [fglrx]title bar does not update on non-maximized windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/770283/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 749933] Re: Dash should not be fullscreen on a 1360x768 resolution.
Hmm. Perhaps an additional requirement to trigger the netbook mode should be added, say.., if >760 but if < 1030. So, if it detects a height smaller than the 799, like our 768, it'll then check if the width resolution is higher than 1030 before triggering Netbook (fullscreen) mode. This way resolutions of 1024x768 will have netbook mode (fullscreen) but widescreen resolutions like our 1366x768 and 1360x768 will still get the glorious Desktop mode, which is perfectly usable. And since many laptops use these resolutions, Dash needs to look is best on them. :D -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/749933 Title: Dash should not be fullscreen on a 1360x768 resolution. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 716177] Re: The Unity Panel's window controls and window dragging features should work for the uppermost maximized window regardless of current window in focus.
It's a shame the menu for unmaximized windows can't appear in their window decorations, eg, their titlebars. I do agree that the menu could potentially be confusing, it's the main problem with trying to make the panel replace both the menus of every window and the titlebar of the maximized window. They're two separate elements and trying to cater to both could cause confusion when trying to make the behaviour more intuitive. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/716177 Title: The Unity Panel's window controls and window dragging features should work for the uppermost maximized window regardless of current window in focus. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 716177] Re: The Unity Panel's window controls and window dragging features should work for the uppermost maximized window regardless of current window in focus.
I don't think it's confusing for the panel window controls (and panel dragging abilities as I said when making this bug) to work for the uppermost maximized window when it isn't in focus at all. In fact if the current window in focus is unmaximized, it will have its own window controls. Since the uppermost maximized window won't have its own window controls (because maximized window decorations are gone) it makes sense for the panel to continue to act as a substitute for them , e ven if it isn't in focus, so that each window has window controls and can be dragged without having to first make the window be in focus. A program that already acts in this fashion exists, called Namebar. Namebar doesn't add panel dragging abilities but it does show the window title and controls for the topmost maximized window only only one maximized window can be seen at any one time. I recommend installing this on maverick or Lucid to see how it works. It's behaviour is exactly what Natty should be emulating. I've attatched a screenshot of how Namebar works, as you can see the focussed window is an unmaximized one, but the panel still shows the name and window controls of the uppermost maximized window, which is an intuitive behaviour well worth emulating. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot-7.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/716177/+attachment/1911955/+files/Screenshot-7.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/716177 Title: The Unity Panel's window controls and window dragging features should work for the uppermost maximized window regardless of current window in focus. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
