[Bug 1883898] Re: version 3.20.6 turns off plugin requirement for most printers
In Debian, I have been successful with the attached patch against 3.20.9. It's basically a revert to the state of these printers at the state of models.dat in the 3.20.5 version. ** Patch added: "0076-3.20.6-regression-In-models.dat-take-3.20.5-s-plugin.patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1883898/+attachment/5421380/+files/0076-3.20.6-regression-In-models.dat-take-3.20.5-s-plugin.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1883898 Title: version 3.20.6 turns off plugin requirement for most printers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1883898/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1883898] Re: version 3.20.6 turns off plugin requirement for most printers
One concrete example: `drv:///hpcups.drv/hp- laserjet_professional_p1107.ppd` In 3.20.5, in hpcups.drv, it had as NickName: "HP LaserJet Professional p1107, hpcups $Version, requires proprietary plugin" … this was changed in 3.20.6 to: "HP LaserJet Professional p1107, hpcups $Version" … and unchanged in 3.20.9. In models.dat, for that model, 3.20.5 had plugin=1 plugin-reason=1 … this was changed in 3.20.6 to plugin=0 plugin-reason=1 … and unchanged in 3.20.9. But printing to this driver/printer gives a filter error: STATE: +hplip.plugin-error prnt/hpcups/HPCupsFilter.cpp 490: m_Job initialization failed with error = 48 (see https://salsa.debian.org/printing-team/hplip/-/jobs/937420 ) So although this was fixed for several printers, it certainly wasn't for all printers. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1883898 Title: version 3.20.6 turns off plugin requirement for most printers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1883898/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

zdohnal: Debian's patch queue is visible here: https://sources.debian.org/src/hplip/3.20.6+dfsg0-1/debian/patches/ , or as git commits here: https://salsa.debian.org/printing- team/hplip/-/commits/debian/experimental/ As you can see, many are yours, carefully hand-picked from https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/hplip/tree/master. [Bug 934291] Re: Deleting or stopping print jobs does not work
@ken-vandine: I'd not name the system user 'lpadmin' but rather 'cups- pk-helper', which is more precise, especially as its creation/deletion is handled by the cups-pk-helper maintainer scripts. Other than that, it looks like a good solution. [Bug 934291] Re: Deleting or stopping print jobs does not work
It's fine to have root as member of the lpadmin group. BUT… it's not fine to have cups-pk-helper run as root and allow unauthorized users (in CUPS' eyes) cancel other user's jobs. This should be fixed in cups-pk-helper through making it interact with CUPS using the requesting user's user. This would ensure that CUPS's authorizations are respected. I don't want to see a situation where "any GNOME user" accesses "cups- pk-helper which runs as root" and can then "manipulate CUPS as if it were a member of lpadmin". -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/934291 Title: Deleting or stopping print jobs does not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/934291/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1268011] Re: Inconsistent ownership/permissions of error_log in CUPS
I noticed a problem in my patch: it is useless. :-) From the reporter: At the same time, CUPS itself sets its log files by default to 644. This is wrong; debian/rules sets LogFilePerm to 0640 through the --with-log-file-perm=0640 configure argument. It has been this way since cups 1.3.8-6 to fix Debian's #469853 . [Bug 1268011] Re: Inconsistent ownership/permissions of error_log in CUPS
This all is not new. From the git history, LP: #345953 got fixed by the inclusion of the current (and mostly unchanged) of the logfiles_adm_readable.dpatch by Martin for 1.3.9-16. The logrotate script exists at least since cups 1.2. It has enforced 640 root lp since 1.3.8-1. That said, I open to fixing this. I agree with mode 0640 but my only doubt is whether the group 'adm' is okay, rather than lpadmin. Users are not necessarily in both groups; therefore adm is the generic solution but could potentially forbid lpadmin users logfiles access (which, at a second thought, is probably fine). Therefore: * cups should be creating the logfiles 640 root:adm * logrotate should only let them be recreated that way too. Opinions about the attached patch? [Bug 301594] Re: FHS violation?
Maintainer voiced his opinion, that's IMHO clear: this will not get fixed by a _very_ (and hard to maintain) invasive distribution-specific patch in Debian nor Ubuntu. Unless someone comes with a patch and some guarantees to maintain the patch on the long term, it will just not happen by painting that issue as ridiculous. That said, there's still some hope for a future solution, see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=692791#101 from Michael Sweet, upstream author: *If* we move to a non-editable format in the future (likely for CUPS 2.0) we will definitely restructure things to put those files in /var/lib. I don't advise that you try to patch current CUPS to use /var/lib/cupsd for cupsd stuff and /etc/cups for everything else since the current code assumes that all CUPS configuration files are in one location. The patch will be very very messy and hard to maintain. [Bug 956783] Re: Nokia Modem CS-19 doesn't work (probably wrong ID)
Hi, The 0421:062c should be the identifier of your Nokia CS-19 _before_ switching, while 0421:062d is its identifier _after_ the switch: usb- modeswitch will trigger the hardware switch transforming the 0421:062c CDROM-like into the 0421:062d Modem-like. As far as I can see, you can't have the two modes at the same time. The only way to avoid the switching is to comment the corresponding 40-usb-modeswitch.rules line; then you'll see the CDROM-like interface and not the modem-like. Hence tagging as invalid as that's IMHO not a bug in usb-modeswitch- data. ** Package changed: usb-modeswitch (Ubuntu) = usb-modeswitch-data (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: usb-modeswitch-data (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/956783 Title: Nokia Modem CS-19 doesn't work (probably wrong ID) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-modeswitch-data/+bug/956783/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 912625] Re: #!/usr/bin/env python breaks Python-based Ubuntu packages in the presence of virtualenvs, local installations
I might take a look at c2esp, foo2zjs and pyppd in due time. So far I'm not sure this bug is as uncontroversial as it might seem and would really prefer a discussion about it on debian- pyt...@lists.debian.org before rushing out any actions. The Debian Python Policy currently says Maintainers _should_ not use env ..: this doesn't mean it's (currently) forbidden; this even means it discouraged, but allowed. I don't think creating a Ubuntu-specific diff for this type of bug is the way to go: either there is a valid reason to do it and it should be done in Debian first (with appropriate Debian Python Policy change, lintian warning, etc) or there is none and, well, the cost of the diff will have to be carried by Ubuntu hands. (Note that given bugs on the respective packages, such a change could be done in very few days in Debian.) Not doing it in Debian first now means that it might eventually be done there later and that a merge will be needed; that sounds like unneccessary work on both sides (and I like to avoid unneccessary work). In particular, this topic was previously discussed there: http://lists.debian.org/debian-python/2009/09/msg00132.html and there seemed to be reasonable agreement around a lintian warning and/or python policy amendment (although without actions); this should really come before blindly fixing all affected packages in Ubuntu only. [Bug 813482] Re: HP Printers with Smart Installer are recognized as CD-ROM drive
Hi Till, what usb-modeswitch needs is a configuration file such as the 03f0:002a from the usb-modeswitch-data source: ### # HP LaserJet Professional P1102 DefaultVendor= 0x03f0 DefaultProduct=0x002a TargetClass=0x07 MessageContent=555342431234567806d000 NeedResponse=1 CheckSuccess=20 So what is needed is the source identifiers, the target identifiers and class (sometimes the switching process changes those) and the USB message content. [Bug 832864] Re: pyside version 1.0.4-1 failed to build in oneiric
hat type=Debian-maintainer-of-pyside on=head / Some data points: a) if you want to sync from Debian, you need apiextractor, generatorrunner and shiboken b) you don't need to run the full build to see if it will succeed, running one (of the 4) configure is enough. c) I'm maintaining the same packages for PySide upstream on lucid+maverick+natty PPAs: https://launchpad.net/~pyside/+archive/ppa/+packages and they always work, so the issue is probably a change is Qt/phonon/whatever and not PySide (I guess). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/832864 Title: pyside version 1.0.4-1 failed to build in oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pyside/+bug/832864/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
