[Bug 329671] [NEW] ibm-lockbtn script needed to blank screen on R50e

2009-02-15 Thread Diego Escalante Urrelo
Public bug reported:

ibm-lockbtn:event=ibm/hotkey HKEY 0080 1003

In 0.117 the ibm-lockbtn was removed, I updated from 0.116 and the Fn+F3 combo
stopped blanking the screen (only the screensaver was activated, but the LCD
remained on).
Reverting to 0.116 made my screen go completely off on Fn+F3.

Because the symbol browser is using libgda now to create its database,

Hence, it needs the sqlite support of libgda4.

>From 45f45c73469f1bd46a1b6fb206f2e9e5e4fd66b3 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001
From: Eric Anholt
Date: Mon, 29 Dec 2008 11:26:11 -0800
Subject: [PATCH] Remove logical context setup.

This should be a noop. If it wasn't a noop, it means that on pre-g33 chipsets
we were spamming some data into a page of system memory because we used a
virtual instead of a physical address. It was also supposed to not work when
we submit it from a batchbuffer, as we have been doing for some time now.
This code has existed since about the beginning of the driver's existence,
with no justification.

Checking out to the previous commit (3544bbe22d8cf2640289e1e4febe755a47f26631)
produces a blurry fonts build.
>From 45f45c73469f1bd46a1b6fb206f2e9e5e4fd66b3 ahead, the driver works

[Bug 275230] Re: rtl-8185 wifi card shows very weak signal

2008-11-24 Thread Diego Escalante Urrelo
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 290325 ***

This is not a network-manager bug, it's a bug in the rtl8180 driver. And
it's actually a duplicate of #290325 (that one has a bit more info).

[Bug 290325] Re: Intrepid Ibex: Belkin F5D6001 (rtl8180): Weak WLAN - Signal

2008-11-24 Thread Diego Escalante Urrelo
I can confirm this bug.
Using the rtl8180 driver with my realtek card (with Philips radio):
   03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8180L
802.11b MAC (rev 20)

I get 5~10% of reported signal, when in reality it's much more. Practical
example:
  N800 says "100%"
  Laptop says "13%"

both devices in the exact same spot: just next to the router, 10
centimeters if you want to be specific.

The old pre-upstream-migration driver in rtl-wifi.sf.net reported the
correct signal level, the code included in the kernel seems to be
completely different, although I understand it was taken from rtl-wifi
project in SF.

Ndiswrapper reports a fixed 60~70% of signal, and I honestly don't think
that's a real measure. It's probably ndis faking a number so
applications don't break.

On a side note, there's a really annoying problem in the kernel driver
that causes frequent disconnections after some minutes of network usage.
It might be caused by a wrong lecture of the signal level (i.e.: signal
= 0 -> drop connections, try to reconnect!).

[Bug 31857] Re: r818x driver freezes randomly

2008-03-31 Thread Diego Escalante Urrelo
Attached tar contains a r818x version that is patched to be built with 2.6.24,
the source code is from rtl-wifi.sf.net and adapted by a guy in their forum
(search it if you wanna credit it, probably he's already credited in the source
files).
I repeat that the svn version does not work, this patched version works, I
didn't really care on producing a patch after I got this thing working. All I
know is that I'll not upgrade my kernel if there's no good reason to have to do
it and hence rebuild the driver...

It needs some love though, I couldn't get it to install but insmoding it
works fine.

This driver works perfectly, I have been stress testing it and so far it
has no problems with uploading or WEP keys, I haven't tested WPA.

[Bug 230211] [NEW] thinkpad-acpi makes acpi produce lots of wakeups, unloading and reloading solves it

2008-05-14 Thread Diego Escalante Urrelo
Public bug reported:

On Thinkpad R50e. Boot normally, get to your desktop and run powertop,
you'll see acpi as the top cause for wakeups (30~60), now unload
thinkpad-acpi *and reload it*. acpi won't do more than a few wakeups.

Notice that after you unload the module you will loose functionality so
blacklisting it is no option, also the unloading+loading is enough to
get acpi out of the causes for wakeups.

This is a serious issue, since wakeups go from around 150 to 70~80 after
doing this.

I tried adding a rmmod+modprobe in rc.local but seems that it's too early to
work... maybe it's related to gnome-power-manager? I can't imagine
gnome-session or gnome-panel are polling acpi so much that it wake ups so often.
Still, killing it and running it again after "fixing" the issue does not cause
any problem.

[Bug 40621] Re: vbetool breaks resume on R50e

2008-05-15 Thread Diego Escalante Urrelo
Got it working again, I tweaked /usr/share/acpi-defaults/IBM.config:

# R50e
1834*|1842*|2670*)
ACPI_SLEEP=true;
SAVE_VIDEO_PCI_STATE=true;
## toggled this two vars from false -> true
SAVE_VBE_STATE=true;
POST_VIDEO=true;
;;

I have a 1834, so if no one complains and it's not an obvious break, can
we separate 1834 to it's own case and set true for SAVE_VBE_STATE and
POST_VIDEO there?. Note that changing /etc/defaults/acpi-support had no
effects for me. IBM.config was always preferred when suspending.

a regression though: fonts exhibit some "bolding" one in a while.
Note the "h" in http on the attached screenshot.

The main problem is fixed for me, but the font thing is a bit annoying.
Could you tip me into what else could be too old in my Ibex system for
2.5.0 intel requirements? Perhaps it's expecting a newer something and
so fonts are broken here when in the expected setup they are not.

2008-11-11 Thread Diego Escalante Urrelo
Trying git's 2.4.3 works perfect (no fonts bug).
This is the head of the branch I built:

commit 55e17ecbaddde95cded5cd99ab3fb7e304a05072
Author: Jesse Barnes <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Date:   Tue Nov 11 12:52:15 2008 -0800

Update version to 2.4.3 for release

Attached is the xorg.0.log of the working driver.

Status:
kernel 2.6.27 + git's intel 2.4.3 (every piece required to build it is ibex's)
+ ibex latest everything = works!
kernel 2.6.27 + ibex's intel 2:2.4.1-1ubuntu10 + ibex latest everything =
broken resume

It was working again with -3, but I rebooted this Friday and it was
broken again :). Probably an update broke it, but I have no memory of
what could have been, inspecting dpkg.log didn't give me a clue either.

Current status: broken.

I'll try again today, after upgrading absolutely everything (even stuff

2008-09-21 Thread Diego Escalante Urrelo
Confirming again, kernel 2.6.24 is working perfect, while 2.6.27 is broken.
ii  linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic  2.6.24-19.41
 Linux kernel image for version 2.6.24 on x86
ii  linux-image-2.6.27-3-generic   2.6.27-3.4

Bryce, my tip:

# R50e
1834*|1842*|2670*)
ACPI_SLEEP=true;
SAVE_VIDEO_PCI_STATE=true;
## toggled this two vars from false -> true
SAVE_VBE_STATE=true;
POST_VIDEO=true;
;;

works perfect with kernel 2.6.24-19-generic, however in
2.6.27-3-generic, it's broken. This seems to be kernel's fault, the same
Ibex system with the older kernel suspends without problems, while using
the new kernel will result in broken graphics on resume.

Current status: broken with kernel 2.6.27-3, works with 2.6.24-19

[Bug 258096] [NEW] [intrepid] Resume broken in 2.6.26 for 855GM (intel on x.org)

2008-08-14 Thread Diego Escalante Urrelo
Public bug reported:

Heya,

turns out that my resume now presents corrupt graphics! It was working
perfectly in Hardy, after some debugging turns out that the key factor
is the kernel.

Up to date xorg, intel xorg driver and 2.6.26-4.11 = FAIL
Same xorg, same intel and 2.6.24-16.30 = WIN

Simple as that :).

Not really scientific, but this commits might be relevant, I can only
confirm what I'm seeing -2.6.24 worked.

Confirming, xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.3.2-2ubuntu3_i386.deb does not
have the issue. No matter EXA or XAA.

It must be this one. Doesn't seem suspicious though.
I'm on 855GM btw.

Not really scientific, but this commits might be relevant, I can only
confirm what I'm seeing -2.6.24 worked.

responsive, it's *not* frozen, it's just that screen is not redrawn
