[Bug 1807056] Re: Occasional Keyboard freeze

2020-04-27 Thread Dilip
@Daniel bug exists in default 20.04 which uses Gnome.

Then I installed Kubuntu Desktop through Synaptic package manager.
Started using Kubuntu through login session option, replacing GDM with
SSDM. In such a case, no keyboard freeze occurs.

In short,

Download the latest Ubuntu 20.04 ISO from Ubuntu.com and do a fresh
install of 20.04, the bug exists.

[Bug 1807056] Re: Occasional Keyboard freeze

2019-12-01 Thread Dilip
This time it happened during Ubuntu 18.04.3 installation through
bootable USB. When I was entering the user name and password during
installation, the keyboard froze. It took me around 15 minutes to get
out of the mess and have a proper installation. It will unfreeze for a
second and when I type two characters in the password box, it freezes
again. There is not even a cursor blinking in the boxes when I click on
them.

[Bug 1850627] Re: Right click happens automatically, disturbs work

2019-11-03 Thread Dilip
With the new mouse, there is no issue in default Ubuntu 18.04.
Considering the old mouse works well in Cinnamon, could this be possibly
related to some driver issue for the old mouse that happened with some
recent update ?

Ok, almost a day now. Started and shutdown the PC a few times, used for

Cinnamon so far. Once or twice single left click because double click.
But that was all in last 24 hours +.

the command with the mouse which is having the issue.

I used Wayland a couple of months back due to curiosity. The main

the bug ID if possible. I am not sure when I will have free time to do
that.

[Bug 1850627] [NEW] Right click happens automatically, disturbs work

2019-10-30 Thread Dilip
Public bug reported:

Since the last 3-4 days, the right click happens all by itself.
Sometimes replacing the left click, while working in Inkscape or
handling files on desktop for a fully updated 18.04. It is so annoying
and good enough to destroy the work we are doing. I manually cleaned my
mouse just in case hardware is causing the issue

I tried using Cinnamon DE. There was no such issue in it.

It would be great if there could be a fix. Thanks.

[Bug 1807056] Re: Occasional Keyboard freeze

2019-09-18 Thread Dilip
The behaviour has changed recently. When the freeze occurs, whatever we
type goes to the dash search. It is visible only when we click the 3x3
icon and visualize the dash search panel. Earlier, whatever we type was
disappears altogether. ie, when the freeze occurs and I continue to
type, it is nowhere to be seen. But when we take dash search panel to
unfreeze it, we can see what we typed after the freeze in the search
box. Hope I explained properly.

I found a new issue within this bug. At times, the mouse right-click
does not show any menu at all. Clicking on the dash search box fixes it
though.

At first, I thought I was trying to copy or paste ( my intended action )
on a folder on which I had no permission. But when the dash search box
typing issue fixed it, I thought of reporting here.

[Bug 1830936] [NEW] Wayland freeze 18.04 using VLC

2019-05-29 Thread Dilip
Public bug reported:

I tried Wayland while logging in and it works fine until I try to play
some local video file using VLC. Ubuntu freezes completely and I have to
power off by pressing the power button. It works fine in the default
Xorg Ubuntu session. I have the latest version of VLC that comes with
the update which 3.0.6 and Ubuntu 18.04 fully updated.

Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS

Even after erasing and fresh install using 18.04 live USB, the freeze
issue exists. When I searched the word " Communitheme in the Ubuntu
partition and I found a bunch of them still exists. Please check the
screenshot. Is there any way to remove these residues of Yaru ?

[Bug 1807056] Re: Occasional Keyboard freeze

2019-01-19 Thread Dilip
I got so annoyed by the keyboard freeze and banking on "something else"
is causing the issue, I erased my 18.04 and reinstalled it yesterday
evening. Now in the morning, I started using Ubuntu again for typing. It
was fine for a couple of hours. But now the freeze has come back.

I have not installed even GIMP or Inkscape. Only thing I have added is
official deb files of Google Chrome and Opera, and VLC from the store.
Other than that, whatever Ubuntu provides by default.

As suggested by @Daniel, I have removed all extensions and been using
default Ubuntu DE all day. Sadly, the keyboard freeze is annoyingly
present in default Ubuntu session as well. The workaround fixes the issue
as discussed before.

PS : I also removed the Yaru install through Ubuntu Software to make
sure that it is not interfering. The freeze is still there, but much
less annoying than in the Yaru session.

Now that I have a workaround, I tried to be fully on Ubuntu default DE.
What I noticed in past hour are

1. The freeze is more prominent in CommuniTheme session

2. There is also mouse freeze. But it happens less frequently than
keyboard freeze. It goes away if we try to access dash search. In fact,
clicking on the dash search area.

As suggested, I tried the latest daily build of Disco from USB. I used

whether I imagined it. Currently, I am not in a position to use Disco
indefinitely. Thought I would update you guys.

[Bug 1807056] Re: Occasional Keyboard freeze

2019-01-14 Thread Dilip
1. Once did try when I posted this in AskUbuntu. That was the first
suggestion I got. I posted this on Discourse.Ubuntu but the thread got
locked, but still got a like after one month of lock. In the It's Foss
Community where I tried to seek help, there was someone who said it
happens to him/her as well.

I will try without extensions once more. I am more of less sure that is
not the case.

2. Yes, I used mouse to click on the dash search and when I typed, it
worked.

3. Ok, I will see.

4. Done :)

@Daniel I have been using Cinnamon for around 15 days now. Other than
the first instance where I felt that there is a freeze, it never
happened in Cinnamon. In the last couple of days, I once switched to
default Ubuntu DE and the freeze came back in no time. I guess it is
more or less safe to say that this keyboard freeze is almost non-
existent in Cinnamon.

Thanks for explaining. Only keyboard input gets lost. Windows, mouse everything

Input of all 3 does not work. But at times, enabling OSK makes the
recovery faster.

I will try top and see. Only keyboard freezes, should I hard reboot and
collect the log as mentioned above ?

Also, how will I type the " top " command as I cannot type anything when
the issues happen. It gets ok by itself after sometime ( without me
doing anything ). The interesting part is that the mouse is working
fine. It is not a total freeze. I can copy, cut and paste using the
mouse. Thanks.

[Bug 1804647] [NEW] Installed Nvidia drivers have unmet dependencies

2018-11-22 Thread Dilip
Public bug reported:

I had some error while installing the drivers for Nvidia, so when i gave the
command to remove fully and reinstall as `sudo apt remove nvidia-*`
I get the error as:
`.
.
.
Package 'nvidia-libopencl1-331-updates' is not installed, so not removed
Package 'nvidia-libopencl1-340' is not installed, so not removed
Package 'nvidia-libopencl1-340-updates' is not installed, so not removed
Package 'nvidia-libopencl1-384' is not installed, so not removed
Package 'nvidia-opencl-icd-331' is not installed, so not removed
Package 'nvidia-opencl-icd-331-updates' is not installed, so not removed
Package 'nvidia-opencl-icd-340-updates' is not installed, so not removed
Package 'nvidia-opencl-icd-384' is not installed, so not removed
You might want to run 'apt --fix-broken install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libnvidia-ifr1-390 : Depends: libnvidia-gl-390 but it is not going to be
installed
libnvidia-ifr1-390:i386 : Depends: libnvidia-gl-390:i386 but it is not going
to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt --fix-broken install' with no packages (or
specify a solution).`

Even when i typed `sudo apt --fix-broken install`

I get the error as:

`diversion of /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libGL.so.1 to

[Bug 1798227] [NEW] OnScreen Keyboard missing

2018-10-16 Thread Dilip
Public bug reported:

I tried support platforms and was told that onscreen keyboard won’t
appear all the time even if you enable it through accessibility. I have
experienced it first hand on a laptop where the keyboard is dead.As you
can see in the screen shot attached, I expect to see OSK after enabling
it from setting and activating through Accessibility. But there is no
sign of OSK. I am typing this from a physical keyboard and till now
there is no sign of OSK. It will be great if you can fix it.

[Bug 1728769] Re: [Wishlist for GDM3] Lock screen clock

2017-11-01 Thread Dilip
Thanks, Daniel. I am using 16.04. I normally upgrade only between LTS. I
hope what you are talking is about 17.10, right ? I am happy with the
clock on the top bar. Hoping to see it just like in Windows lock screen
at the middle of the screen as well ( after logged in )

[Bug 1728769] [NEW] [Wishlist for GDM3] Lock screen clock

2017-10-30 Thread Dilip
Public bug reported:

I tried asking it at Ubuntuforums.org. I was told to report here.

Any chance we can have a clock in Lock screen for 18.04 ? I hope it will
be a very useful feature. I would have asked for a live desktop clock as
well ( with option to disable it as well ). I am just worried that it
will be dismissed saying third-party tools already exist for this
option. It would be great to have a lock screen like a simple live clock
on the desktop as well. Thanks.

[Bug 1716419] [NEW] File Transfer progress indicator would not go away

2017-09-11 Thread Dilip
Public bug reported:

I use stock Ubuntu 16.04 with Unity. Since some time I have been
noticing that the file transfer indicator on launcher icon for Nautilus
won't go away ( even if file transfer is complete )

The icon indicator gives an idea that there is still file transfer in
progress, while there is none. I could see the progress indicator across
various icon theme. For eg. in Unity Icon Theme, Papirus Icon Theme.

If I remember correctly, it's been there since Sept 2016 ( at the least
).

It would be great if you guys can fix it.

PS: I tried the commands you gave for a good bug report.I couldn't get
any output on the terminal for those commands. Just to be clear, I have
latest updates installed.

[Bug 1585886] Re: WiFi indicator icon disappears in Ubuntu 16.04

2017-07-31 Thread Dilip
Wifi icon on top panel disappears for me as well (16.04 + Unity). I have
to use settings > network to deal with the WiFi connections. Happens
mostly when I " suspend " and resume my PC.

I do not use an ethernet cable. So, unable to comment on that.

sudo service network-manager restart
nm-applet

These commands, when active on terminal brings back the icon. But, the
WiFi network listing are missing at times.

[Bug 1335040] [NEW] USB 3.0 cameras dont work properly after upgrading to 3.2.0-64 kernel.

2014-06-27 Thread Dilip Kumar
Public bug reported:

After doing a kernel upgrade on my Ubuntu 12.04 LTS system from 3.2.0-63
to 3.2.0-64, USB 3.0 cameras have stopped working properly. I use the
application guvcview to preview the cameras. The initial preview when
starting the application works fine. But when trying to change the
resolution of preview, the application reports an error continuously for
each frame.

Description:Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS
Release:12.04

guvcview:
  Installed: 1.5.3-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1.5.3-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1.5.3-0ubuntu1 0

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

cat /proc/version_signature
Ubuntu 3.2.0-64.97-generic-pae 3.2.59

Steps to reproduce:
$ sudo apt-get update  sudo apt-get dist-upgrade  sudo apt-get install
guvcview -y
$ sync
$ sudo reboot

Connect any USB3.0 superspeed camera available on the market to an USB 3.0 port
on your system.
I am using an e-con system's See3CAM_80 USB 3.0 camera.

Now start the application guvcview from a terminal window
$ guvcview

The application starts up showing the GUI for controls and another
window showing the preview. Now try to change the resolution of the
camera by using the resolution combo box present in Video tab of the
application controls window.

What I expected to happen :
The preview resolution should have changed to the selected resolution.

What happened instead :
The preview window becomes black and no more frames are obtained from the
camera. The terminal window shows the following errors repeatedly.

[Bug 1335040] Re: USB 3.0 cameras dont work properly after upgrading to 3.2.0-64 kernel.

2014-06-27 Thread Dilip Kumar
This issue still occurs in the latest version of kernel for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS as
of date. (ie. 3.2.0-65)
cat /proc/version_signature

Ubuntu 3.2.0-65.98-generic-pae 3.2.60

I have tested and confirmed that this issue can be recreated, not only
in my PC but also in other PC's with different hardware configurations.

If you need any more information for debugging please let me know.
