[Bug 2058192] [NEW] [MIR][needs-packaging] lenovo-wwan-unlock
Public bug reported: [Availability] The package lenovo-wwan-unlock build for the architectures it is designed to work on. It currently builds and works for architectures: amd64 Link to package https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lenovo-wwan-unlock [Rationale] - The package lenovo-wwan-unlock is required in Ubuntu restricted for WWAN hardware support - The package lenovo-wwan-unlock will generally be useful for a large part of our user base - There is no other/better way to solve this that is already in main or should go universe->main instead of this. - It would be great and useful to community/processes to have the package lenovo-fccunlock and lenovo-cfgservice in Ubuntu restricted, but there is no definitive deadline. [Security] - No CVEs/security issues in this software in the past - no `suid` or `sgid` binaries - Binary configservice_lenovo and DPR_Fcc_unlock_service in /opt/fcc_lenovo/ is no problem because AppArmor constraints applied - Package does install services, timers or recurring jobs lenovo-fccunlock.service lenovo-cfgservice.service - Security has been kept in mind and common isolation/risk-mitigation patterns are in place utilizing the following features: AppArmor constraints had been included: - opt.fcc_lenovo.DPR_Fcc_unlock_service - opt.fcc_lenovo.configservice_lenovo - Packages does not open privileged ports (ports < 1024). - Packages does not expose any external endpoints - Packages does not contain extensions to security-sensitive software (filters, scanners, plugins, UI skins, ...) [Quality assurance - function/usage] - The package works well right after install [Quality assurance - maintenance] - The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu/Upstream and does not have too many, long-term & critical, open bugs - https://github.com/lenovo/lenovo-wwan-unlock/issues - The package does not deal with exotic hardware we cannot support [Quality assurance - testing] - The package does not run a test at build time because it contains only binary files - The package can not be well tested at build or autopkgtest time because it will need real hardware for testing. To make up for that: - We have access to such hardware in the team - Based on that access outlined above, here are the details of the test plan execute service by systemd command sudo systemctl start lenovo-fccunlock sudo systemctl start lenovo-cfgservice and (if already possible) example output of a test run: - output of lenovo-fccunlock: https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/nsFBW3jXDk/ - output ot lenovo-cfgservice: https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/8rCFqRHQ8V/ We will execute that test plan on-uploads [Quality assurance - packaging] - debian/watch is not present because it is a native package and need to add AppArmor configs - debian/control defines a correct Maintainer field - This package does not yield massive lintian Warnings, Errors - Please link to a recent build log of the package https://launchpadlibrarian.net/719472309/buildlog_ubuntu-noble-amd64.lenovo-wwan-unlock_1.2ubuntu3-0~202403150905~ubuntu24.04.1_BUILDING.txt.gz - Please attach the full output you have got from `lintian --pedantic` log: https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/Mm6CX7QgFc/ - Lintian overrides are not present - This package does not rely on obsolete or about to be demoted packages. - This package has no python2 or GTK2 dependencies - The package will not be installed by default - Packaging and build is easy, link to debian/rules https://git.launchpad.net/~dirksu/+git/lenovo-fccunlock-sar/tree/debian/control [UI standards] - Application is not end-user facing (does not need translation) [Dependencies] - No further depends or recommends dependencies that are not yet in main [Standards compliance] - This package correctly follows FHS and Debian Policy [Maintenance/Owner] - The owning team will be canonical-mainstream and I have their acknowledgement for that commitment - The future owning team is already subscribed to the package - This does not use static builds - This does not use vendored code - This package is not rust based - The package was test rebuilt in PPA or sbuild recently PPA: https://launchpad.net/~dirksu/+archive/ubuntu/fccunlock-test [Background information] The Package description explains the package well Upstream Name is lenovo-wwan-unlock Link to upstream project https://github.com/lenovo/lenovo-wwan-unlock ** Affects: oem-priority Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Wishlist Status: New ** Tags: oem-priority originate-from-1956804 sutton ** Changed in: ubuntu Importance: Undecided => Wishlist ** Tags added: oem-priority originate-from-1956804 sutton -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2058192 Title:

[Bug 1943816] Re: "ubuntu-drivers install" needs to be used when installing nvidia-driver if enabling "third-party packages"
Previous discussion was at https://chat.canonical.com/canonical/pl/1mgrhibwpj8ojxk89tbpztjdar. Due to the design of ubiquity, it only use ubuntu-driver to get package list and install package in 31ubuntu_driver_packages. But ubuntu-driver not only install packages but also create configurations of Nvidia GPU. This patch will copy configurations and calling prime-select to make sure it get same result as calling "ubuntu-driver install" directly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1943816 Title: "ubuntu-drivers install" needs to be used when installing nvidia- driver if enabling "third-party packages" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1943816/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1946476] Re: New on-demand default causes RTD3 never to be enabled
** Changed in: oem-priority Assignee: jeremyszu (os369510) => Dirk Su (dirksu) ** Description changed: As per LP: #1942307 we now set on-demand as the default. [Bug 1948701] Re: Hard system lock under 5.* kernel on standard laptop
If anybody has a hypothesis of what could be causing the lock, I would be game to trying different kernel builds (or parameterizations). So far I mostly glad I can run the machine again, even if it needs a 4.* kernel. Otherwise, is there a particular crash I could enable to diagnose? The machine really locks *hard* i.e. all I can do once it happens is powercycle so I am not too hopeful about logging. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1948701 Title: Hard system lock under 5.* kernel on standard laptop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1948701/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1948701] [NEW] Hard system lock under 5.* kernel on standard laptop
Public bug reported: This issue appeared first under 21.04, and I (wrongly) suspected a bug in the window manager or graphics stack. I posted on askubuntu at https://askubuntu.com/questions/1346317/ubuntu-21-04-and-21-10-lock- hard-with-basic-gui-redrawing-using-standard-intel-g and even offered a bounty but no luck. I then hopen 21.10 may solve it, but alas, no. At issue is a fairly immediate system lock as soon as I use Chrome or Slack and switch desktops. It typically locks the machine with minutes of a reboot -- making it unuseable under GUI. On the other hand, I kept it running 'headless' (just ssh'ed in from byobu running on my desktop) for a month so I had some reason to believe the hard ware was not at fault. Now, more recently, I realized that I had not tried an older kernel, and indeed under 4.13.0-46-generic, still installed from an older relese, everything runs fine! I would be happy to help debug if you pointers or test builds. [Bug 1942307] Re: ubiquity uses performance mode for nvidia driver
** Description changed: [Steps to reproduce] 1. Install 20.04.3 with "Third-party packages" on a system which containing a RTD3 supported nvidia card. 2. After the installation, press enter to reboot system 3. prime-select query [Expected result] on-demand [Actual result] performance --- It's because ubiquity launches `ubuntu-drivers install --packages-list ...` in live system but install each package to target storage. When installing nvidia-prime, the preinst set "on" to "/etc/prime- discrete" which will be referred by gpu-manager. The gpu-manager will set to performance mode. After confirming with Alberto on Mattermost, since we don't have a nvidia driver which lower than 450 version since focal. I think we are ok to switch to on-demand mode. + + X-HWE-Bug: Bug #1946434 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1942307 Title: ubiquity uses performance mode for nvidia driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1942307/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1946476] Re: New on-demand default causes RTD3 never to be enabled
** Description changed: As per LP: #1942307 we now set on-demand as the default. This however, causes "prime-select on-demand", called by ubuntu-drivers, not to even try to detect RTD3 and to enable it, since "on-demand" is already set. We cannot make informed choices about RTD3 in the postinstallation script of nvidia-prime, therefore we should simply drop the check that prime-select makes to abort if the new profile is determined to be the same as the current profile. + + X-HWE-Bug: Bug #1946434 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1946476 Title: New on-demand default causes RTD3 never to be enabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1946476/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
