[Bug 1072120] Re: ~/.Xmodmap not read on login

2013-11-01 Thread Dirk Schuster
Hi Ryan,

thanks for your hints. It helped me to find a workaround, without using
~/.Xmodmap. And now I'm able to switch the keyboard layouts using
gnome-control-center region layouts, too, withour loosing the € or
$ key of the acer laptop again.

I found these links very helpful. Perhaps they can be helpful for others who
are using the approach you suggested:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Howto%3A%20Custom%20keyboard%20layout%20definitions
http://www.charvolant.org/~doug/xkb/html/node5.html

cheers Dirk

[Bug 1243642] Re: .Xmodmap not automatically loaded on start

2013-11-01 Thread Dirk Schuster
Hi,

Ryan gave me a hint, how to find a workaround without using ~/.Xmodmap.
I describe the solution of my specific problem here, so it might be
helpful for someone with a similar problem.

These links helped a lot:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Howto%3A%20Custom%20keyboard%20layout%20definitions
http://www.charvolant.org/~doug/xkb/html/node5.html

To use the special € and $ keys of the acer laptop in 13.10:

1. add the scancode-to-keycode mappings to /etc/rc.local

# Euro
setkeycodes e033 240
# Dollar
setkeycodes e034 241

loadkeys /home/user/.acer.map

2. create the keyboard translation table extension in
/home/user/.acer.map containing:

keycode 240 = euro
shift keycode 240 = cent
keycode 241 = dollar
shift keycode 241 = onequarter

3. add the xbd_symbols to the symbol definition file you use, e.g.:
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/de

// acer Euro und Dollar Spezialtasten
key I248  { [  EuroSign,   cent ] };
key I249  { [dollar, onequarter ] };

4. optional, if you like to see the keys in the graphical represenation of the
keyboard,
change the appropriate section in the geometry definition file you use,
e.g. /usr/share/X11/xkb/geometry/pc

section Editing {
top= 61;
left= 312;
row {
top= 1;
key.color= grey20;
keys { INS, HOME, PGUP };
};
row {
top= 20;
key.color= grey20;
keys { DELE, END, PGDN };
};
row {
top= 58;
keys { I248, { UP, color= grey20 } , I249 };
};
row {
top= 77;
key.color= grey20;
keys { LEFT, DOWN, RGHT };
};
}; // End of Editing section

And now I'm able to switch the keyboard layouts using gnome-control-center
region layouts, too, withour loosing the € or $ key of the acer laptop again.

cheers Dirk

[Bug 216847] Re: sshd will not start at boot if ListenAddress is set, because network interface is not yet up

2013-10-24 Thread Dirk Schuster
I tested on 12.10.

Unfortunately the solution from Claus interferes with the network
manager. On my 12.10 system I wasn't able to handle the eth0 by the
network manager any more.

As I don't like arvitrary sleep times, I figured out a solution just
changing the start on line in /etc/init/ssh. It works very well for me
in 12.10..

I add this patch in a moment. It would be fine if someone would test it
and confirm it.

Users of other ubuntu versions might have to change the line
accordingly.

[Bug 1072120] Re: ~/.Xmodmap not read on login

2013-10-24 Thread Dirk Schuster
yesterday I opened a very similar sounding bug in saucy (13.10):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1243642
(I don't know if the affected project suggested by the apport-bug process is
correct nor if a relation has to be added. help welcome.)

I additionally discovered:

 ... that by switching the keyboard layouts using gnome-control-center
region layouts the mappings of the xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap will be lost
again. Then another manual execution of xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap has to be
executed and it works again.

Perhaps this information is of any help for this bug.

Is there anybody here who has switched to saucy in between and would like to
test and confirm the effects I discovered in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1243642
?
@Christian: What about you?

thanks Dirk

[Bug 1243642] [NEW] .Xmodmap not automatically loaded on start

2013-10-23 Thread Dirk Schuster
Public bug reported:

I'm using a ~/.Xmodmap file to define two keycode mappings.

13.10 doesn't seem to automatically load this file any more.
13.04 did. (same file, same laptop)

manual execution of xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap works on 13.10!
That means I'm e.g. able to use this key in a terminal or in geany.

I discovered, that by switching the keyboard layouts using gnome-
control-center region layouts the mappings of the xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap
will be lost again. Then another manual execution of xmodmap
~/.Xmodmap has to be executed and it works again.

Perhaps the ~/.Xmodmap is loaded and lost by the the gnome-control-
center () later.

Sorry, I can't figure out which packet this bug has to be asigned to. By
using apport-bug xorg was choosen, but it could be xorg-server or
gnome-control-center, also.

[Bug 1006858] Re: gnomad2 can't transfer music tracks to Zen Vision:M MTP Player in 12.04 any more

thanks for the hint

I took the version you mentioned from:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/libm/libmtp/libmtp9_1.1.0-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb

And after that I was able to use gnomad2 without any problems

[Bug 1006858] Re: gnomad2 can't transfer music tracks to Zen Vision:M MTP Player in 12.04 any more

2012-07-26 Thread Dirk Schuster
- different users confirmed this error nt only for gnomad2 but also for
Rhythmbox, gMTP and mtp-tools. It seems it's the same for qlix.

- downgrading from libmtp 1.1.3 to libmtp 1.1.0 solves the problem

So it seems to me it's not an gnomad2 but an libmtp issue

[Bug 997856] Re: Eclipse hangs while opening a parsing a file with GWT Designer

2012-06-06 Thread Dirk Schuster
Hi Carlos,

 Still, that really wasn't a fix, just a workaround so the bug would
still be valid :)

Yes, that's why I already called it workaround and confirmed your bug
report. ;-)

 So, even with those, I can't open Design View.

To narrow it down (and as an side effect create an environment you are
able to work with as long as the bug isn't fixed): Is it possible to use
the Design View if you try these steps?

- purge the eclipse package

- make sure firefox is still installed

- download and install eclipse manually (very easy)
  http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/

- download and install the packages

http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/h/hunspell/libhunspell-1.2-0_1.2.14-4_amd64.deb

http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/x/xulrunner-1.9.2/xulrunner-1.9.2_1.9.2.28+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.11.04.1_amd64.deb

- install the the gwt designer by using the update site

- disable the webkit rendering for the GWT UI as described in the link
above

Is it now possible for you to switch to the design mode? I'm able to use
the design mode after these steps.

2012-06-05 Thread Dirk Schuster
Hi Carlos,

there are two workarounds described at:

http://www.elgali.net/2012/05/14/gwt-designer-eclipse-plugin-in-
ubuntu-12-04/

Both workarounds are using older libs.
Does one of these help you in getting the design mode working?

[Bug 1006858] Re: gnomad2 can't transfer music tracks to Zen Vision:M MTP Player in 12.04 any more

2012-06-01 Thread Dirk Schuster
I reproduced the error with virtual machines from virtualboxes.org. So
it's easy to set up the same testing environment to reproduce the error
for everybody who wants to.

In both cases I used the same mp3 file, the same zen vision:m and the
same host (btw. it's the same machine as above)

1. I took the 11.10 virtual box image from virtualboxes.org as is. (no
update, just sudo apt-get install gnomad2). gnomad2 transferred the
music track perfectly.

2. I took the 12.04 virtual box image from virtualboxes.org as is. (no
update, just sudo apt-get install gnomad2). gnomad2 failed the same way
as above.

- console output:
Device 0 (VID=041e and PID=413e) is a Creative ZEN Vision:M.
Queried Creative Zen Vision:M

additional:

- the .mp3 track itself will be stored on the Zen device, but the necessary
bookkeeping to be able to use the file fails
- If several tracks should be transferred at once. The failure of the transfer
of the first track prevents the continuation of the transfer of the following
tracks.

[Bug 408706] [NEW] signatures of signed and encoded messages sent by kmail and opened by thunderbird/enigmail aren't recognized

2009-08-04 Thread Dirk Schuster
Public bug reported:

the error disappears if I remove the current ubuntu package and use the
newest enigmail version 0.96.0

Since the newest enigmail version doesn't only fix this error but fixes
81 errors also, I suggest to provide a enigmail package for version

see also:

error was reproduced with several mails from two different kmail peers

error was found in enigmail ubuntu package:

leaving out detailed error description, because problem already solved
in 0.96.0
