Upgrading to kernel 4.13.0-33.36 from ppa:canonical-kernel-team/ppa solved the issue. No need to use "acpi=off" System works stable. For me it's very annoying. I migrated from Ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10 several days before, and just cant use nautilus. I'm using this type-ahead feature for navigate. At the beginning i tried to switch off recursive search in nautilus to speedup it. But when i want to use recursive search i should go to the setting and switching it on again. I even tried to replace nautilus with another file manager, but gnome can't showing desktop items without nautilus. Why type-ahead can't exists as optional setting? No, that's not a workaround. Bug appeared again after several hibernate-resume cycles. I never seen this bug with xubuntu 15.10, kernel 4.5 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and latest Intel graphics from 01.org. But it appeared after installing 16.04. I know it's too old, but today i have big problem without persistent net rules. (sorry for my English) I have VMWare 5.5.0 host and Ubuntu 12.04 guest with many virtual NICs (with MACs 00:0c:29*) Today I updated kernel from 3.13.0-32 to 3.13.0-45 Rebooted VM Lost connection to my VM over one of the NIC (which is connected to internet). I connected to VMWare host (by VMware vSphere Client) and to Ubuntu guest (over LAN virtual NIC who worked) And I saw, that NICs in Ubuntu guest have correct order and matches IP- ETHnumber like before kernel update and reboot, but IP-ETH does not match MAC-VLAN bindings in VMWare, except eth0 (LAN NIC). I don't understend how it happened, as I remember, I updated kernel before many times (to 3.13.0-32) without problems. Should I run apport-collect -p xorg-server 875504 while my screen flickering or I can just do it right now? I'm also affected in Utopic and Trusty on different configurations, using usb-creator-gtk. With Trusty and Utopic (daily, and Unity-Next daily images). Images are not corrupt. This issue seems to be random. After formatting\creating USB disk by usb-creator-gtk for over 7 times - it is working. It's a bit of a mystery unfortunately. Adding to the annoyance, Ben said
that it does work just fine on his NVC8, although he has the less powerful
versions. Could be something with high ROP/TPC/GPC counts not being handled.
(Or multiple PARTs?)
That might actually be an interesting experiment -- before loading nouveau,
mask out a bunch of the units and see if it helps. If it does, find the
breaking point.

Step 1: Print out the various values (i.e. number of ROPs, GPCs, and the
per-GPC TPC counts).
Step 2: Artificially lower them (to, e.g., 1) and see if it helps. If it
does, figure out which of the values matter and where the breaking points
are.
If it doesn't help, perhaps the units need to be disabled a little harder,
e.g. by setting 0x22584/0x22588.
Can you describe more detailed what I need to do? I'm afraid I'm not so
advanced at this moment to understand everything in your comment. Maybe

It was interesting thing when I tried to switch back to bumblebee from nvidia-prime. I have done these steps: sudo apt-get purge nvidia-prime sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bumblebee/stable sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-331 nvidia-settings sudo apt-get install bumblebee bumblebee-nvidia primus primus-libs-ia32 But then I started World of Goo (from Steam) using optirun. And when in game startscreen I've pointed to profiles icon - there has been a freeze again! I removed bumblebee, primus, nvidia-331. After that I installed nvidia-319-updates, then bumblebee and primus. And now i have no freeze at all. Asus K55VD, Xubuntu 14.04 LTS I have swithed from bumblebee to prime and now having this issue. Ctrl+Shift+FN helps but it's annoying. I see it is too rather bug. And it is not fixed yet.
