[Bug 527157] Re: Brightness controls skips Levels.
James: no, there is no need to touch kernel. You should have noticed, that brightness control works as expected, before you login (during boot or even on login screen). Problem is in user-level process running during user session. We have to find that process, than fix will be pretty simple. See plugins/media-keys/gsd-media-keys-manager.c:1528, function do_screen_brightness_action_real(): looks like it is correct place for patch. [Bug 527157] Re: Brightness controls skips Levels.
Oh yeah! #24 is really dirty one! But it gave me a clue, how this bug should be fixed: Patching StepUp/StepDown handlers is very bad practice, because these methods may be called by some other applications. We need to prevent calls to these methods depending on some parameter. The problem itself: bios changes brightness on keypress and reports acpi keypress event, instead of just reporting event (this might be fixable in DSDT), then some process handles this event and issues dbus calls to org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Power.Screen.StepUp/StepDown methods. Then g-p-m changes brightness too; g-p-m has no ways to determine, whether it should change brightness when handling StepUp/StepDown dbus calls, or not. Neither 'some process' do. The solution, how I see it: find code, which handles acpi keypresses (that's not g-p-m, g-s-d may be?) and add user-changeable option there to disable acpi brightness keypresses handle (e.g. gconf parameter). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/527157 Title: Brightness controls skips Levels. [Bug 763688] Re: [915GM] S-video output doesn't work in Natty (i386)
I use Xubuntu 11.10 too and I confirm that this bug does exist. Some time ago I had a need to connect my Acer Extensa 4220 laptop to a TV set via S-Video. I could see options window and choose TV out on the screen of my laptop but TV set screen stayed black. Then I had done a series of experiments with Ubuntu LiveCD's and I had stated that it was alright in Ubuntu 10.10 and something went wrong in Ubuntu 11.04. With Ubuntu 10.10 I could see image both on my laptop screen and a TV set via S-Video connection. I see people having - I guess - the same problem with Ubuntu and another distros, with new kernels and drivers too: http://www.linuxine.com/story/ubuntu-no-s-video-out-1104-intel-945gm http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=268870 http://www.linux-archive.org/debian-user/559119-s-video-debian.html So I think the problem still exists and it haven't been solved yet. My solution for now is to use live USB stick with Linux Mint 9 Rosinka (Russian version 'cos I'm from Russia). But I'd like to have a real solution with new kernel, new software, new drivers because using old versions is a step back and sign of regress. [Bug 689886] [NEW] Compatibility issue with uggly Windows RFC1323 implementation
Public bug reported: First, sorry for my bad english. The issue is that Linux-based OS sometimes can't make an tcp connection to some Windows servers with switched on buggy implementation of rfc1323, that described on this forum: http://www.network-builders.com /windows-tcp-timestamp-not-compliant-rfc-1323-a-t80898.html. Because some Windows hosts implementation of rfc1323 bases on randomly generated TSval and sent first value of TSval as 0, the difference of recent and new TSval sometimes has been affected by a sign magic issue and the PAWS mechanism has been triggered. Anyway, the rfc1323 has discribes the condition of PAWS as 0 (t - s) 2**31, that has been right implementation in current linux kernel, but incompatible with Windows bug. For example, the one of affected to this issue Windows host is behind relay.n-l-e.ru:80. Note that problems arise only when the remote side sets the TC val 2147483647, ie when there is a sign. I think that my small patch makes the kernel more compatible with this windows bug. [Bug 655375] [NEW] zeemote bluetooth joystick causes xorg crash
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-joystick Recently I got Zeemote JS1 bluetooth joystick and wanted to test it in games. I connected it using this manual: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8315022postcount=2 Zeemoted connects to device successfully, device buttons A-C work as expected, as mouse buttons 1-3, but touching stick causes instant xorg crash. [Bug 281732] Re: Mute button not properly working on current Lenovo Thinkpads x200/x200s , t400/t500, X300/X301, W series
Confirming this bug on an R400 running Maverick. The xev still doesn't report anything when pressing Mute button. The Volume Up/Down buttons work fine and show the OSD volume change. The mute button mutes, but the muteness doesn't register with the mixer applet or anything else, except that the mute state is noted in /proc/acpi/ibm/volume. It doesn't unmute, to unmute a volume up/down button needs to be pressed. While I understand that telling ACPI that Linux is not Windows might lead to side effects, I am not sure pretending to be Windows is a good policy in the long run. Wouldn't this make kernel vulnerable to potential incompatibility bugs? Why does upstream insist on doing it this way? I don't understand the argument about not letting Mute key events into user space. Why not? I understand it is already operating on BIOS mixer, but something needs to react to this by updating user interface. How is it supposed to work, check the BIOS mixer state all the time? -- Mute button not properly working on current Lenovo Thinkpads x200/x200s , t400/t500, X300/X301, W series https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281732 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
